August 2023

We had a lovely room on 2nd floor overlooking the park. The bathroom was small and the shower was over the bath. We didn’t have issues with this but others could have had as getting in and out was a bit of a challenge. The location was great as not far from George Street etc. Bar service was good and the lounge was very comfortable and it was also nice to have the outside terrace. We didn’t eat at the Royal Scots club so can’t comment on this aspect.

Need to be more alert on security. I asked for a room key, which wasn’t for my room, and it was handed to me with no name check etc which was rather concerning. My request fortunately was a legitimate request for the key to a relatives room who had asked me to get something from their room for them.

Great location and excellent facilities

We had a basement room right in the depths of the property which was very claustrophobic meaning the corridors getting to the room which were like a rabbit warren we had to check a few times how to exit in case of an emergency

The location is excellent. It is very close to the center and to transportation. The room and the facility were very comfortable including the beds. The breakfast was very good and tasted. My colleague has a special diet and they were able to reflect this and to offer her the alternativity. This is good value for the money for Edingurg's stay. The bar area is cozy for friendly meetings with colleagues.

All was OK

The location is great, we walked to the Main Street, to the Old Town, To Stockbridge via the Leith walk and Botanical Gardens. We felt safe walking at night. We had breakfast and one meal and they were good. The staff in reception and the dining room were brilliant. We booked a ground room as the only one available, but we were given a better room on one of the floors. The room was practical, enough for the 2 of us and very clean. It is excellent value for money. We were able to park on a side street for free as it was weekend and then just pay online for the few hours on Monday via RingGo.

Good old fashioned hotel, stylish interior, spacious, no mobile use allowed in dining room, lift was important as room on second floor and had very heavy luggage. Friendly receptionist recommended place to eat on Sunday evening-The Magnum, great gastro pub, turn left out of hotel, 2 mins walk. Excellent. Hotel perfect location for conference at Royal College of Physicians nearby.

Traffic noise - it’s not too bad but secondary double glazing would improve. I live in the country so not used to city noise. Smokers standing outside chatting a bit annoying too (room was on front of hotel - others may be less affected).

I stayed at the Royal Scots one other time about seven years ago on the lower level and I thought then that the room was excellent. This time we stayed in the annex next door and I thought the room was exceptional. Very good sized and comfortable. We also really liked that the entrance seemed more private and it felt like we were staying in our own little flat. Also the location (for us) is absolutely perfect -- we've been to Edinburgh several times over the years and from where we were, we could easily get anywhere we wanted to either walking or by bus with no problem.

It may sound strange but I cannot think of a single thing that we disliked about the Royals Scots.

This property is a historic private club with attached hotel. There are beautiful public rooms (lounge, restaurant, etc) for guests to use. My room was spacious and well equipped, with an extremely comfortable bed. Breakfast is served in the elegant dining room and there is a buffet as well as made to order options, including full Scottish breakfast. The property is located in a lovely quiet neighborhood overlooking a (private) park, but is within easy walking distance of plenty of restaurants and central Edinburgh sights.

Nothing comes to mind. All in all it was a very good place to stay in an excellent location.

This is a lovely place to stay in Edinburgh. Almost homely and with great staff who make it so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. As a club of a former British Army Regiment, the Royal Scots, who recently were sacrificed to make up a new regiment - the Rangers. The club is steeped in history. The welcome and the ambience make you feel part of the fabric that makes this such a great place. Breakfast is outstandingly good.

Paying double the price I paid last November for the same room! It's market forces I know, peak season and it was competitive with other hotels at the time, but it still hurts. As a veteran I did ask for breakfast to be included, but it was not accepted and had to pay the going rate. It is still a great place to stay however.

Lovely high ceilings, huge bed, a kind of old-style elegance. Great location. Slightly uphill walk to Prince’s Street and all the sights of the Old Town, but no distance. Brilliant bus and tram services nearby for easy access to places further afield. Fabulous breakfast choices. Lovely hot water for showers and luxurious deep baths.

Amazingly, we enjoyed something of a heatwave first week of September. While this sunny weather in Scotland made for brilliant sight-seeing, our room was extremely warm. Our only (slight) criticism of the place was … no air conditioning, and windows opening only to a very limited extent. The electric fan supplied was absolutely essential, although really just moved warm air around. In more typical Scottish weather, it would have been beautifully cosy. In hot weather, the room really was a bit too warm! Otherwise, a really lovely place to stay.
