everything was excellent from staff to room size and tidiness

one issue was the water pressure we had to change our room due to the water pressure being low in the stand shower however even the second room had low pressure i mean very low difficult to shower, I hope the hotel management looks into this

at first they gave us a terrible room hard to reach to it from the lobby and it was small with no view after we complained they said they will give us better room but they were so delayed and we spent 2 nights waiting but finally they gave us an up grade room it was much better location , views and bigger with no extra charges . the staff were nice and helpful all the time the hotel was clean and with classical style and paintings , i heard it was a castle before so it will give you the feeling of living in a castle in Edinburgh not like the usual hotels . it was great feeling

there is no swimming pool , gym and spa at the hotel but they said we can use the swimming pool or the gym at the other near hotel it was 10 minutes walking . the air conditioner noise when we open it we can can hear a noisy sound.

Everything! We can't praise the level of service highly enough. All the staff, including the doormen, porters, reception staff, waiters and cleaners, were very warm, friendly and attentive. They seemed to really care that the guests were well looked after. The hotel was very well appointed, with a high standard of furnishings and facilities, and in a great location, very close to the tram stop for the airport, Rose Street bars, St James Quarter shops and Princes Street, and only a short hillside walk to the old town. Breakfast was extensive and delicious (with the exception of the tea!) and we appreciated all the extra little touches during our stay, like the complementary prosecco at check-in and the box of Edinburgh shortbread in our room. The Printing Press bar, attached to the hotel, was also an enjoyable experience. All in all, a wonderful stay in a wonderful city.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The George and would recommend it for making a trip to see the Edinburgh Tattoo extra special. From start to finish, we experienced friendly staff. The room was spotlessly clean and well appointed. The beds were very comfortable indeed. Breakfast was tasty, there was plenty of choice and we were well looked after. The hotel is elegant, historic and in a lovely location for sightseeing and experiencing old Edinburgh. I would love to stay here again. Thank you to The George.

the only thing that I would say is that a holding payment of full amount plus £50 per day was taken on arrival, on departure full amount was taken again and were told we would get the holding amount back in the next week… this impacts available balances until the pending amount is refunded which isn’t very helpful.. this means you need to have double the amount of your stay plus £50 per day to enable you to stay.. I would recommend taking full payment on arrival as not all guests will have that availability

The property was beautifully decorated for Christmas and very clean. The lobby left good first impressions and well organised

The room we had was cosy, yet functional. The toilet could do with a shelf under the sink to allow more space around the sink area. A box of tissues would be ideal on the desk for thise using the desk as a dressing table. I’d have left the coffee making facilities out on the desk rather than in the cupboard. The complimentary peanuts etc could have gone elsewhere. The hotel bar was always closed because they encouraged you to drink in the ‘printing room’ a bath/ restaurant connected to the hotel.

From the minute we walked in to The George, we were treated exceptionally. Staff were on hand to hold doors, give advice, book taxis, etc. We were made to feel very special and the foyer of the hotel is gorgeous. The room we had was also lovely and very comfortable with nice snacks and good quality tea and coffee. I was there to celebrate my birthday and I was given a hand written card and edible treats to celebrate. It was very much appreciated.

There really wasn't anything we didn't like, we just wish we could have stayed for longer than the two nights we were booked for.

The location is very central, 5 minutes from the train station. The entrance hall is grandiose. The staff very welcoming and helpful. The room was nicely furnished and clean. I liked the complementary biscuits, tea and bottle of water. The breakfast was amazing with wide variety of food, omelette, eggs benedicts are on the menu. As well as scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages. Great choice of pastries, fruits, yogurts and juice. I recommend and will stay there again.

The carpet in the corridors had stains and need to be refurbished.

Great buffet choice at breakfast, hot/cold plus extras to order e.g pancakes. Prosecco on arrival at the hotel was a bonus - instantly felt like a treat! The concierge was extremely helpful in advising and booking tours for us and when it can to recommending a jazz bar for us to try. The hotel lobby and seating areas is super cosy with its own fire and large comfy chairs to relax in with a beverage. Amazing views from hotel and easy to access all of the main tourist points on foot. Brilliant!

This is a proper 5 star hotel with great staff. They are all willing to make the stay better. Thanks for the whole team. I would certainly choose the same place when I visit Edinburgh again. Nice breakfast, nice service. Excellent location. Great cleanliness. Sufficient gym.

Some shortcomings due to the historical building. Some renovation may be needed. Lobby could be designed differently and a bar could be added. Gym tools could be improved.
