Arrived a little late and very happy to see the pub was still serving food - on a Sunday. Got the key to the room and and took the short trip up the stairs and through the ancient corridors of the building. it is full of character. Room 3 was spacious and nicely decorated overlooking the road. Bathroom was spacious and nicely decorated and clean. Towels were of a nice size ! Breakfast was really good - local products, nicely prepared.

Minor niggle was that the room overlooked the high street and even for a tiny village in the middle of the Somerset countryside, someone pulling a suitcase at 5.30AM sounded like they were in the room. The village coming to life at 6.00 sounded equally loud.

A charming old building in the centre of a picturesque old town that has everything you need and nothing that you don’t. My room was comfortable and much bigger than I expected. The staff were friendly and mostly helpful. A very enjoyable couple of days.

I had breakfast on both days and while the food was very good and freshly cooked I was only offered one cup of coffee on both days. The menu said that residents could choose one item from the menu and that anything else would be charged, consequently I just had the cooked breakfast and one piece of toast on the first day . One the second day the lady was much more friendly and told me to help myself to orange juice but I still only got one cup of coffee. My room overlooked the open seating area in the courtyard and this was busy with people enjoying the sunny weather but this was not really a problem as they all disappeared by 9.

A lovely old coaching inn with staff that couldn’t be more helpful. The food was first rate with plenty of choice and a great breakfast.

The bedroom decor was confused and cheap. The stay was in most ways hard to fault but the newly refurbished rooms were of a confused style and cheaply finished, faulty windows and broken electric plugs , unfortunately letting this stay down slightly, however we were only in the rooms to sleep so didn’t stop us enjoyment our stay.

All the staff were fantastic including Pip the manager and we were so well taken care of . Even our 3 small dogs were fussed over by all the locals in the bar sat next to a log fire drinking a local pint of beer ! What’s not to like . The evening meal was exceptional and the next day breakfast set us up for our 200 mile drive home . A great location in the centre of the picturesque village and a great walk onto the top of the hills with just behind the hotel this really is a very special place .

Nothing could have been improved and even if our bedroom was on the smaller side this is only because the building is hundreds of years old and is very traditional.

Convenient area . Breakfast was excellent, staff very nice!

Room was a bit tired & needed a refurb. Duvet was like concrete. No shaver mirror and shower had no real adjustment on the spray. Also the bath /shower should have had a handle for safety to get in and out of the bath. Bedroom had poor lighting and kettle no plug nearby. Dining room chairs had some very marked and dirty fabric. Smell of cooking permeated the bedroom which was not nice.

I booked this post Glastonbury, and it was perfect! the perfect spot to reset after several days of no sleep and disgusting loos. The hotel is about a 25 minute walk (carrying a heavy rucksack etc) from Castle Cary station, and very quaint, clean and quiet. The staff were truly wonderful, and the food was great - massive portions and good quality. The room was exactly what was needed - comfortable bed, TV with all the channels, hot shower.

None!

The location was perfect. The building is beautiful. Bed was comfy. Good towels. Good tea and coffee in room. Breakfast excellent with delicious coffee. Nice area outside where we could sit and enjoy the air.

My mother struggles with steps so I should have asked for ground floor or near top of stairs. Lots of ups and downs along corridor. The TV remote control was missing. I notified staff on our second (last) night but they couldn't locate a replacement. The shower head was very leaky and the on off switch fell off. Some of those stick on grips eould be good to avoid slipping in shower.

Lovely atmosphere. Rooms are large and a little tired but very clean. Very nice setting. The staff were so friendly and helpful, they really made our stay.

Toilet was so close to the wall you have to sit on at an angle. TV remotes need looking at as even with new batteries hardly worked. Pillows were really really thin. There are a maximum of 5 parking spaces in the hotel car park, and only that many if people park sensibly so parking is in the road outside or further afield if no space there.

we were treated as one of the family after we had helped them put up the marquee for the platinum celebrations, everyone was helpfull and friendly, we were given alternative parking as the carpark was given over to the 70 year reign occasion, got some local honey and drank Old Rosie from a hand pump, marvellous

If it wasn't the platinum party weekend they could have really spoilt us but that would have been nearly impossible as their standard was high to begin with thank you

It was comfortable enough. The staff were very helpful.

Our room was located above the kitchen and subsequently was very warm despite having the window open. That meant that it was also noisy both early in the morning and late at night. Nothing one can do about that, but select a different room. Its an observation, not a criticism.
