Upon arrival Claire, who was on duty that day, welcomed us and took us to our rooms. The rooms were lovely, comfortable with amazing views of the surrounding countryside. Nice little touch to have a wee dram on the dressing table as part of the welcome. Claire manned the bar and cooked our meals each night. The food was very good. Alan took care of us at breakfast. A quiet man with not much to say but he can certainly cook a great breakfast!

On our first evening, we sat at the table in front of the fire chatting, occasionally to the couple at the next table. Then Alan and Sharon (owners) walked in, on their way out for the evening. They didn't acknowledge us or even glance at us, all the while chatting to the people at the next table, with their backs to us. And then they left. The Inn is a little too remote but then that was our choice.

Very quiet location, used by locals, anglers, deer stalkers and us.A nice friendly welcome from the lady.My husband was keen to watch the rugby and he chatted to the man behind the bar about all things rugby. We were doing part of the Southern Upland Way and wanted an early start on 2 mornings and were pleased that the man was able to provide early breakfasts for us.These were big and hearty - cereals, cooked breakfast and toast with tea and OJ.We had 2 dinners there also, venison pie the first night and haggis and beef burger the second with caramel cheesecake which were all home made and delicious.Nice warm room with very comfy and cosy bed.A little dram in the room to welcome you.

Everything was fine.

The location is lovely and the peace and quiet most welcome. We loved the view of hills and river from our bedroom window - and the sound of a cuckoo. We enjoyed exploring the beautiful countryside nearby. We enjoyed pub-style dinner and a hearty breakfast and liked putting the world to rights with the proprietor! We appreciated the non-slip surface in the shower and the comfortable bed and always like to see old furniture cared for and put to good use. A nice touch was the wee dram - thank you!

A problem with old buildings - rather low water pressure.

A little oasis in the wild and woolly Borders with beautiful scenic surroundings. Rooms were well equipped with a warm and comfy bed. Slept like a log both nights. Breakfast was marvelous and a good home cooked menu on offer during the evening. Complimentary whiskey in the room was a nice wee touch. Alan and Sharon couldn't do enough for us and nothing was too much trouble. Loved everything about the place and can't recommend the Tushielaw Inn highly enough.

No adverse comments. Anyone posting negative reviews need help!!!

Beautiful inn which was friendly, warm and welcoming. The hosts were lovely and chatty which gave this place a homely stay. The food was excellent and set us up for our trip across Scotland. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed. My husband thought the little dram of Whiskey was the perfect touch. A wonderful view, quiet and the perfect place to stay. We will definitely return when in the area. Thank you again for a lovely experience. Sarah and Mathew.

The friendliness of the Landlord and his wife. He made everyone welcome and the guests all chatted happily with each other. The inn is isolated, set in rolling hills with moorland dotted with sheep and lambs. You wake to birdsong….

I needed an extra duvet as it was frosty outside. Once sorted, I slept well. It’s not posh, smart or Cordon Bleu… expect homely, comfortable with a welcoming plateful of home cooked chips after a day’s hillwalking.

A great welcome from my host, who was helpful and very friendly, nothing was a problem. Room was spacious with a very comfy bed. Food was very very good, along with a good selection of drinks and location of Inn was stunning with views towards the surrounding hills and across fields and a river that ran down beside the grounds. Definitely somewhere to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature.

Only that the power of the hot water coming from the shower could have been a bit more powerful , but I was still able to have a decent shower just took a little longer.

Yes. My long journey from Ireland... I booked a night in this inn. An inn on the Scottish Borders where I used to live for about 10 years. It was amazing... During the trip I wrote to them that I would be late...the answer was right away asking if they could leave me something to eat... When I arrived, they were waiting for me and some other guests. I felt like I had entered someone's home. Room clean, quiet pleasant, absolutely worth the price. I heartily recommend it to everyone. For those who want peace and meeting other people... Thank you to the host for the delicious breakfast included in the price of the room and for the conversation. I wish You Good luck. Best Regards Adam

Friendly proprietors. Great very rural location. Good home cooking for all meals, which means that service is not fast, as you might expect, but perfectly adequate.. Moderately priced, but meal prices on the Booking.com confirmation are INCORRECT.. Comfortable bed,and good sized en-suite bathroom with a bath and shower over. I was only offered a full Scottish breakfast, and so I assume that this was the only breakfast offered. The quality was fine. Adequately heated.

The property is old, and the proprietors have only owned it for 18 months, and it is still work- in-progress. Some of the decor could be better, but given time, I expect things will improve. No room or hotel information was given in the bedroom, and I could not get the TV to work. A bit of a selection at breakfast (especially a fish option) would be welcome. No fresh fruit was available at breakfast. Vegetables at main meals seemed to be limited to peas only.

The location was fantastic. Everything about the stay was so enjoyable. It wasn’t the highest of quality but everything else more than made up for this. The food was exceptionally nice, basic but again super . Would happily spend a week or more here.

The bed was not the best, but could be overlooked by everything else. It was like stepping back in time.. but again great.
