Beautiful old building with lots of history. The newer addition of the Henry Adams wing (where we stayed) is still in keeping with the history. Very clean and tidy, rooms have a simple light, cool & calming decor, coffee machine & kettle, fridge, wall mounted tv, roberts radio, plenty of drawer space for those on a longer stay, no wardrobe but some hanging space near the door. Our bathroom had a large walk in shower (no bath) & full sized Bramley products. Good selection at breakfast of breads, pastries, cereal, fruit & yogurt. Hot breakfast is to order & they don’t mind if you want to substitute items. We had our evening meal in the adjoining pub, which was delicious. Immaculately dressed staff (can’t say the same for the manager, looked like he’d been pulled through a hedge backwards in someone else’s clothes & I don’t think he owned a comb!) hotel & pub very dog friendly so a trip here can include your fur-baby too! The lounge area is fairly large & quiet with lots of comfy chairs & sofa’s some look out onto the garden & some are around a large open fire, when lit this is the perfect place to relax on a autumn/winter break, with the clock ticking & a glass of your favourite tipple. The walk from Buckler’s Hard to Beaulieu takes about 40-60 minutes depending on your walking speed via a maintained gravel path that follows the river dipping in & out of meadows & woods.

It’s cashless. I’m old school & prefer to use cash.

The location was incredible, Henry's food was delicious, the staff were so friendly and professional. The boat ride was a wonderful peaceful experience, even in the rain. The crew were informative and funny. We didn't go to the museum as we didn't have time but it's right there if you want to.

We booked a dog friendly room, it was right next to the car park. Some staff and guests started work early (it was a monday) and one or two were noisy. We paid a fee of £25 extra which included dog bowl, mini treat hamper and a bed. However the room was run down, paint peeling, the floor hadn't been thoroughly hovered and we don't think it was mopped. Just a shame when we pay the extra, it's always assumed it's for a more deep clean. But it didn't dampen our stay at all.

We were made to feel relaxed from the moment we arrived through dinner at the Riverside Restaurant and the staff were exceptional and it's hard to say that these days and I've travelled for many years all around the world but never been treated so well than at The Master Builder. Congratulations to Chris the manager for putting together such a friendly and courteous team. We will definitely be staying again and mentioning to our friends and family that your location is a must do visit. We are fortunate to have a boat on the river to enjoy as well. But staying with you and seeing the river from the hotel was magical. We won't ever take it for granted the magical beautiful place Bucklers Hard is. Thank you.

Leaving !!!

Love the location, very nice hotel and grounds. Lovely Restaurant and lounge, the bar looked nice but was packed! Our room was nice and spacious with lovely views over the lawn and river. Very comfy bed, and nice and quiet.

Little bit pricy if I am honest for a B&B stay. we didn't get breakfast as had to be at a show early... staff very accommodating and allowed us to take some pastries with us. We ate lunch and dinner in the restaurant, both very good meals, but a bit pricy.... not enough vegan choices sadly. The food we had was of excellent quality and service was great. Our Room was in the main hotel and very nice, great bed, lovely view etc. Bathroom would benefit greatly with an update, just a shower maybe? There is not a great deal of space to put toiletries etc. None of the above would deter me from staying again or recommending this to others though. Its a shame we didn't have longer to enjoy the surroundings.

The location was stunning, situated right on the river, the hotel was well laid out with several Smaller rooms to sit in, while chatting and having a drink, the bedrooms were amazing, we booked the deluxe doubles, they overlooked the river and gardens, beautifully furnished, proper coffee with fresh milk in the fridge and complimentary water and a decanter with gin, tonic in the fridge. Evening meal was delicious and the staff while attentive did not intrude, they were friendly and polite. I would definitely revisit and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

There was nothing to dislike

Fabulous hotel with helpful and friendly staff. We loved the historic location and proximity to the Beaulieu river; the food was expensive but very good quality. We enjoyed our stay so much that we've booked four more nights at the hotel for our honeymoon, which says it all really!

The breakfast was lovely when it arrived but there was a wait and items weren't quicky replenished in the area when you help yourself (this might have been partly because it was close to 10 am when we came down). The dinners were expensive, although the food was very good quality.

Friendliness of staff, attractiveness of room and location generally, little extra touches like noticing it was our birthday and communicating it to restaurant staff so that we got a suitably "birthday" dessert with candle. Free room upgrade due to recent cancellation.

Any criticism would be nit-picking, but since the question is asked: box of tissues in the room would be useful, the coffee machine didn't turn itself off and so overflowed (we reported this, so it has probably been fixed). Oh, and the weather was appalling, but I don't think there was much the hotel could do about that!

Wonderful location. Great staff. Really good food. Comfortable room and decent bed. I did swap rooms from the main building to the annex. The room in the main building was very small and only had a bath! The Annex room was spacious with a large shower. I dont think the other room would have been a great experience especially as the weather was hot. I dont think a bath is practical.

The first room but there was no issue changing. It was quite expensive which is understandable as everything in the new forest is expensive.

I stayed at the Master Builders back in 1974 and had wonderful memories. I was keen to take my wife for a romantic birthday night away and revisit Bucklers Hard and the forest. Our room was perfect, a large and wonky room with oak beams and views across the river. After a pleasant meal and lovely evening walk we found ourselves drawn to the pub and the brilliant musicians who had drinkers dancing and singing along. A wonderful night of sleep followed by a great English cooked breakfast. Going back in November if not sooner.

The whole experience was a pleasure, love this area. The stay was absolutely perfect for us & for anyone who loves nature, peaceful setting & plenty to do. We had the sun too so makes it all the more, we could have stayed longer so enjoyable. Good walking for most be it long or short walk. You can walk along the river to Beauliea village which is lovely. Museums to visit if you wish & a boat ride down the river.

Nothing it was all spot on our stay & good! Well happy.
