Friendly receptionist, great value for parking and accommodation for a night. Adjoining pub served great evening meal and breakfast, and was a nice place to spend time in. Hotel contacted me in advance due to a noisy function to check if I was attending and ensured I was in a quiet room as I wasn't.
Perhaps a refurbishment due - cracked and loose floor tiles in bathroom, very soft mattress on bed. Hairpin from a previous guest on floor in room, aircon unit blew out a lot of dust when turned on (perhaps hadn't been used in a while).

Sunday roast on Sunday evening was wonderful, with plenty of everything. The choice available at breakfast was the best we have ever had! Cereal, pastries, muffins, fresh fruit to die for and my husband’s cooked breakfast was exceptional. All delivered to us with great gusto by the singing waiter! Thanks for a lovely stay.
Our room was next to a main thoroughfare to the stairs, so the door was constantly in use. This can’t be helped though…just unfortunate for us. Also the heater in the bedroom would make loud tapping noises as it heated up. Again, this only affected me as my husband is a heavy sleeper, so just one of those things.

Beautiful building in a quiet country location. we had booked a standard room which was fine but we prefer a bath so we asked if that was available. they upgraded us to a suite for £40 and that was fabulous, huge room with bathroom upstairs. free standing bath with TV and a large walk in shower. breakfast was cooked to order with a good choice. will be back when we are in the area next.
there was a wedding fair on that day and the suite had been on show that day so we had a little wait for our room and it hadn't had a thorough check - the bin in the bathroom had not been emptied and the tea/coffee had not been replenished, but soon sorted out for us.

I had a very enjoyable, relaxing stay. Convenient location for my stay which was to visit friends and family in the area, in lovely countryside but not far from the A1M and M62. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. I was upgraded to a suite in a separate building away from the noise of a wedding party in the main hotel, which was very much appreciated. Excellent freshly cooked food both at breakfast and dinner, although the portions were rather big for me. So nice to find an independent hotel rather than a chain.
Whilst the upgrade worked well for me, the hotel didn't check in advance whether I had any mobility issues that might have made the walk across to the restaurant or the steps up to my bathroom a problem. I make this point at every hotel; some of us are getting older or have poor eyesight and I believe every shower should have a grab rail on the wall as standard. There was nowhere to put my shampoo or shower cream down apart from a very high (to me) shelf and there was only a small towel rail which wouldn't have been big enough for two people's towels. The standard sliced bread at breakfast was a bit disappointing.

The food was excellent. The staff were friendly. Characterful old building. Good location.
The room was very small! There was only just enough room around the beds. There was not enough room to pull out the chair to sit on and be comfortable. The beds and pillows were too firm for us so we didn’t sleep well on any of the nights we stayed. The sink is too large for the space available. Every time I used the toilet I banged my arm on the sink as it was so close to the toilet. I’m a size 12 so larger guests would really struggle as the bathroom is so poorly designed. No shaver socket in the bathroom. As we were in the newer extension I would have expected better rooms. The housekeeping staff woke us up on Monday morning at 8am with their talking and hoovering. They turned away multiple people who hadn’t booked a table for dinner despite there being tables available.

The room was nicely decorated and the bed was comfortable. Everything was very clean. There was a tea/coffee tray in the wardrobe with two very small biscuits. However, there was not much space for it in the room when it was out. The staff were all very friendly and the connecting pub was very nice which did amazing pizzas. There is a lot of history to the hotel and some of the public rooms were very old and interesting.
There was a notice board as you drove in advertising Christmas with a life sized model Santa. We could have done without that in mid September but I suppose kids might like it. There was also a lot of advertising for weddings. We were lucky there wasn’t a wedding on the day we were there as the brochures said they do quite a few per year.

Beautiful historic building, friendly staff and a great breakfast with quality ingredients; the scrambled egg is beautiful. An ideal location for a function.
For just shy of £160, guests should be permitted to check in to available rooms on a first come, first served basis. At 1230, if a room is available, I shouldn't be charged £20 to check in, especially as part of a function that was already providing a substantial sum. This would have enhanced our experience, rather than being forced to interrupt our enjoyment later, to check in. An additional £20, when rooms were available, was petty and mean. Although still enjoyed the stay.

The reception staff was friendly, welcoming and professional. The room and en-suite were really clean. The view from my room was beautiful and relaxing. The buffet style breakfast was great. Offered a variety of tastes: sausages, bacon, eggs, baked beans, etc. Also fresh fruit, yogurt, juices, and hot drinks. I would stay again here.
I had had a long drive, during probably the hottest day of this Summer. I was very pleased to see the room had an air conditioner unit. I made use of it, but it was a bit cranky when the blades were swinging. But given how hot the day was, I happily traded light and rhytmic noise to make the room cool. And, despite this, I would stay again here.

The staff were very good, professional, friendly and helpful. The location was very nice indeed. Rural, with good outdoor space and beautifully-kept gardens. Food in the Jacobean pub/restaurant was good quality too. Good air-con in the room (especially as the outside temperature was in the mid/upper 20s).
The room (Executive) was adequate (and very large) but the quite dark and with two low, and small-ish windows. The room overlooked the roof of another part of the building where a number of extractor fans were located and these were very noisy. Fortunately, the room air-con was very effective and it was possible (essential) to have the windows closed which shut out most of the noise. The room quality is limited by the age/design of the building but they are ok.

Lovely quirky hotel, our room was huge, good shower, lots of plug sockets. Staff encountered were all very friendly. Food in the Jacobean pub attached was tasty & plentiful. Nice comfortable lounge area. Would definitely stay again if we're visiting the area.
There wasn't anything we didn't like. Personal choice my partner likes a fridge to keep drinks cold & we moved the hospitality tray to near a plug socket - there is space in the room to accommodate the hospitality cabinet to near a socket. The little room where the drinks & bread, pastries etc are for breakfast can get congested on a busy morning but if you're on holiday it doesn't matter & as mentioned previously it's a quirky building!
