We arrived here fairly late after a very long stage on the C2C walk. We were received with such smiles and kindness. The staff made sure we were OK, that we had food ordered and even offered to bring it to the rooms if we were too tired to come back down. At the meal they chatted with us, included us in the conversation with the others in the bar. We didn't think we were getting breakfast, so it was a nice surprise when we found out it was included, and they gave us the left over pastries to take away with us for our day ahead.

We didn't realise how far out of Shap the accommodation was, it's right on the edge, and after 17 miles of walking in very hot sun, walking that extra mile to the far end of Shap felt like it took forever

one of the best overnight stops we had, nice pub with log fire excellent friendly staff and one of the funniest gents loos. good size room, great coffee bags and biscuits, large bed. Vegetarian food was excellent. great view from room.

only minor points, so being picky, the ensuite could have been a little bigger to fit the good size shower as access toilet was a very tight. food was great but not the cheapest. the pub is a bit too far at the south end of the village with busy road at the front and Trainline at the back.

The Hotel was very smart and nicely fitted out with quality fixtures and fittings. The parking was easy. The room was large, and warm, and the shower was very good. I liked the special touches such as a glass carafe for water and glass storage jars for tea/coffee etc. There was a little road noise from our room, but it died away during the evening. Breakfast was generous, with good choice for vegetarians. The Staff were friendly and helpful.

The downstairs eating areas were very cold, and although the Staff Member kindly moved us to a slightly warmer area, it was still a bit chilly - I am not sure if the heating was on. Breakfast was also in the bar area, which was a bit of a cold corridor.

Lovely comfortable bed ,room nice and warm , good quality bedding ,staff very welcoming and helpful. Lovely well stocked tea tray in room. We would stay again .

The shower surrounds a little grubby, as were the tiles .otherwise, I couldn't fault the room or the staff . We chose to have an evening meal ,service which was a little slow from ordering to receiving our meal was an hour and one table waited two.hours. Would we stay again? Yes, the evening meal could have been a hiccup we only saw two staff members, and they were pretty stretched ,so maybe a staffing issue wouldn't put us off stopping again.

Lovely location, excellent customer service and food. We stayed in the quadruple room with our 2 children and we were very comfortable and enjoyed the stay😊We had an evening meal in the pub restaurant which was really nice, I'm a veggie and there was plenty to choose from (I recommend the halloumi kebab!)There was a nice atmosphere all night and it was very quiet during the night, no noise travelling from the pub.

Shap is an excellent location and there is a lovely seated area outside for drinks when the weather is good. The food was very good, an excellent dinner menu (although somewhat expensive). Breakfast was a little chaotic but the cooked food was good.

There was no soap at all in the room at check-in and after asking for some several times, we were told that there had been a lot of theft recently so the soap had been removed from the room and was being kept in a locked cupboard. There was no hairdryer, which had also been removed in case it was stolen. The price I paid would have covered the cost of replacing these items (had I stolen them) many times over. I would stay again, but avoid this particular time of year (Appleby Fair). The shower screen was very obviously dirty at the bottom. The restaurant was clearly under pressure due to staff shortages.

This property is in an ideal location, close to the motorway. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food was exceptional and the menu not your run of the mill selection, so a pleasant surprise. Drinks were cheap, which was ideal as I like a single malt after a day on the road. My room as massive, nice and warm and very clean

Although the location is very close to the M6 motorway when you arrive at the hotel you discover that it is sandwiched between a main road and a railway line.

Good location just off M6. Easy to reach, secure parking. Well prepared dinner with good choices, hearty breakfast. Service good, by friendly staff always willing to help. Somewhat "quirky" local pub and small hotel that grows on you, ideal for guests who are flexible and enjoy somewhat different things.

Getting heating to our room proved a challenge - but was not a major issue.

Great set up with a queen bed and 2 singles. Perfect for our family. Staff were incredibly friendly.

It was busy, so checking in slow, dinner slower but everything else great. We didn’t book our table ahead of time (our fault)… probably would’ve done better to go elsewhere but we’re tired.. so waited. Took 20 min past reservations before order taken, never came back to refill water.. food was just ok. The hotel was great though.

A pleasant surprise: Shap and surroundings can look a bit grey on a damp cold evening, but the interior was welcoming and cheerful. Very close to the M6 for a stopover on the way back to Scotland. Well refurbished rooms and bathroom, pub food downstairs, what's not to like! A good place for walkers and cyclists on cross country routes, as well as us motorised folk. Big quiet carpark. Would happily stay again.
