The views are outstanding from the house & they are all super dog friendly. My sister Gail & I took 2 of our dogs..Fozzie & Willow 🐕🐕..They had a blast It's only 3 minutes drive from the beautiful Pooley bridge..where there are plenty eating places..all dog friendly ❤️..& endless walks along Ulswater which is stunning..there is a tea place there Granny's where the cakes are divine The owner Ailsa ❤️ is wonderfully kind & caring & attentive to your every whim with her great staff the manager Jacky ❤️ who is superb 👏 Ailsa cooks breaky which is delightful 😋..you can take your dogs with you to breaky.. You have also full access to the kitchen amenities to cook your own snack or meal..With every utensil & pan etc needed.. We will 100 % be back to this beautiful place..as such a homely experience ❤️

Beautiful old house,as mentioned in other reviews. Everyone very friendly and helpful and really made me feel welcome. Grounds are lovely as are the views from the dining room and lounge. Very peaceful in the evening. My room was spacious and spotless, comfy bed, table with tea making facilities by the window.
No complaints, but just a word of advice if you aren't driving. Not too long a walk from the village, but the road to and from it is always busy and there's very little in the way of even a grass verge to get out of the way on those occasions when traffic is approaching you from both directions. There's a local taxi firm, which I didn't use, but the Penrith bound bus actually dropped me off at the property's driveway last night ( last bus from the village, Saturday night, 21.15). So take a torch or high vis jacket if you go for the walking option at night. .My room had a business card for the taxi driver, next time that's what I'll be doing.

The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The location was idyllic as the gardens had outstanding views of the landscape. The gardens were naturally beautiful, the staff were kind and friendly and efficient and the owner was most cordial and welcoming. Barton Hall is a charming country House. The beds were very comfortable. We did not want for anything during our stay and would certainly recommend to all as a tranquil haven away from the more touristy areas of the lakes. It was just a 2.4km walk from Pooley Bridge where we found nice restaurants and a convenience store and easy access to the lake where we launched our small boat. The owner of the property allowed us to keep our boat on her drive for the duration which we considered most kind as we could not find a location on the lake who would allow this and as a consequence we were able to achieve exactly what we wanted from our short holiday.

The staff and owner were super friendly and helpful. We were made to feel very welcome from the start and breakfast was fantastic. The hotel was extremely clean and the sitting room area was very cosy and friendly. We had a shared bathroom which were not looking forward to but it was totally fine and I would recommend to anybody. We will certainly return in the future.
It would have been nice if the bathroom wasn't shared but this is to be expected with the age of the building. I stayed for three nights and by the last breakfast I couldn't have another full English breakfast.

This is a wonderful and quirky B&B. It is a beautiful Manor House and the decor is fantastic. It is a short walk in to Pooley Bridge. The facilities are fantastic with a kitchen and outside seating area residents can use. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean. I would definitely stay here again.
My only issue was that due to the listed nature of the building not all the rooms had showers. There was a shared shower room that was always free when we needed it.

* A beautiful country house. * Staff hospitality was outstanding - so friendly and welcoming. We felt at home right away! The owner Elsa was lovely and so interesting to talk to. Jacqui (the lady in charge) was great. What a fabulous team with the other ladies at Barton Hall. * Our room was wonderful -the roll top bath was plush! The beds were so comfortable and were dressed with high quality linen. * Delicious home cooked breakfast each morning. * The use of the family room with coal fire was warm and inviting. * The shared kitchen was well equipped and the use of fridge was great for storing food for your trip. We made sandwiches for our outings each day and had umpteen cups of tea with fresh milk. * Excellent location- The grounds were laden with snowdrops. Just a short drive from centre of Pooley Bridge and 25 mins from Keswick. 10 minutes from Penrith which has loads of supermarkets.

Lovely country house, stunning interior, comfortable beds, relaxing bath, tasty breakfast and lovely welcoming hosts. A stone's throw from Ullswater and the village of Pooley Bridge with nice pubs for food & drink and lovely walks around. On a rainy day visited the Rheged discovery centre where my little girl enjoyed time in the soft play. Visited Aira Force waterfalls (National Trust) - definitely worth going early as there is limited parking. Would highly recommend this place, we had a lovely stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Barton Hall. We were made very welcome, the room was lovely and the breakfast delicious. There were lots of special touches which made travelling with a family easy. For example, guests have their own kitchen with milk supplied, the room was sumptuous with a four poster bed and plenty of blankets and hot water bottles, though it was perfectly warm and cosy (we travelled in February). There is also a lovely lounge. The house is beautiful with a panorama down to Ullswater. My husband and I commented that it is quite rare these days to have such personal service. The owner and staff were very warm and friendly and we had some lovely chats. Our dog was also welcomed. It was also extremely good value for money.
Others booking might want to know that the shower is shared with other rooms, but we didn’t care because the children like baths and we had our own lovely bathroom.

Ailsa, Jackie and the whole team made our first stay at Barton Hall so enjoyable. They welcomed us and Honey our dog as if we were family. This accommodation is amazing, quirky and I can't wait to find out more of its history on my next visit! Breakfast was superb and even catered for me one morning early when I was off on a fell run. Don't let a non ensuite room put you off, you may get to use the famous bath, it's fantastic! Until next time, see you all soon x
I should have booked more annual leave so my stay was longer!

Alisia the lady of the house (the boss), is definitely the hidden gem! She was welcoming, funny and very warm but not intrusive. Considering it's an old country hall, the cleanliness was absolutely immaculate - not one ornament or skirting board had dust on it. Room was an amazing size and in keeping with the country hall and surrounding areas. It was so peaceful and quiet. Keys were not used, but coming from London weirdly enough, I completely trusted that method!
Wasn't one thing wrong!!
