Breakfast was delicious and we were kept topped up constantly with tea/coffee and toast. Breakfast was ordered the night before with a tick box form. I really just fancied a sausage sandwich one morning which wasn't on the list but it wasn't a problem. Staff were really friendly.
I understand that the hotel is very old but I do think the rooms could do with a makeover. Maybe also a check on housekeeping as one of the bedside drawers was full of someone else's left over sandwich wrappers and a vape. Also one day the towels from the bathroom were on the floor as we walked in and the door was unlocked! Just a minor thing but for security the door really should have been locked after housekeeping had been in - obviously by the towels on the floor they meant to return but didn't. However, the bathroom has obviously been refurbished recently and was excellent.

We have visited the Ullswater area on many occasions and bypassed Askham most of that time, which was a huge mistake. Situated somewhere between Ullswater and Haweswater Reservoir the Inn is perfect for exploring the region. We received a warm welcome upon arrival and although early were able to check in with out any issues. We stayed in room 5 which has nice views of the outside of the inn and the immediate village. The room was well equipped with plenty of toiletries and more on request if needed. From the beginning the staff were friendly and helpful and worked like trojans as the pub was busy for the 2 days we stayed. There is plenty of parking in and around the Inn but give and take is needed at very busy times. We had no issues and it was a bank holiday weekend. We ate in both nights and the service and food was excellent. Breakfast likewise. Situated about c4 miles from Pooley Bridge, the village is beautiful, quiet, well kept with lots of local walks including one to the nearby Lowther Castle and its grounds. We drove to Pooley Bridge parked for £4 all day in a car park near the pubs and caught the steamer to Glenridding. Despite the rain, well it is the lakes, a fantastic experience as always. If you're looking for a quaint quiet setting, great atmosphere and lovely informal hosts then look no further. We will definitely, definitely return.
Nothing it was perfect for us.

Lovely traditional county pub accommodation. I booked the Punchbowl for it's close proximity to Askhall Hall where I was attending a wedding, it was perfect, so close. The staff could not have been more accommodating, all friendly and professional, and no request was too much. Had a meal in the pub on our first evening and breakfast for 2 mornings, all were very tasty, flavoursome and served well.
The only thing, and it is really nit-picking, there were a few cobwebs on the ceiling in the bedroom, but it is an old, country accommodation so bound to happen.

Location and old English Evening meal was to die for. Can recommend the fish and chips plus the burger. Host Jonny was amazing. Very helpful. Evening staff much better than morning staff.
Bed. Comfy and clean as it was. We both felt the bed had a tendency to roll outwards making us sleep on a slope. This was rectified by sleeping central in the bed. Breakfast was ok. Full English was exactly what was expected. Bacon was dry and overcooked. Morning staff not as friendly as the previous evening staff.

I literally loved everything about my stay, was very last minute for us to book and had to ring up to ask when they would like us to check in as I was working and wouldn’t get there till 2330, so I went in on the way to my event, very friendly owner and takes care of you. Also interested in chatting to you not as a client but as a human which through all my stays over the last year alone makes a huge difference to me. Amazing place, amazing food honestly you need to try the food 🤤 and amazing hosting skills. One the best night sleeps I’ve had, didn’t wake up once during the night and if you want an alcoholic beverage you have to try the local larger so tasty! If I’m ever at another event in Cumbria for work I’ll staying here again!

Where to begin The place it's self, extreamly friendly, mix of local and tourist, dog lovers dream, locals and tourists all happy, the food we didn't try on the night as we only came late and had b&b but was talking to a couple and they said their evening meal was fantastic The staff, couldn't be more friendly, Extreamly helpful, Extreamly welcoming both on arrival and departure The breakfast was absolutely spot on was probs one of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time, very filling, hot and plenty, served with welcoming smile and a genuine how was your stay The room was comfortable, above the bar area I think, nice low level mumbling you'd expect, but died down very quickly around 9pm (the mumbling isn't a complaint by the way, as it was at that quiet theroputic level) , slept like a log the beds comfortable fresh, lovely bathroom, plenty of towels soaps and extremely clean Prices - fantastic price for the service, the area, staff friendlyness and room,, Parking plenty - We shall return and is our top 3 places to stay in the lakes area
Leaving lol

We had a very comfortable room with a good shower and a lovely view. The bed was large and comfortable. The food was very good with the evening meal (stilton & broccoli soup and cheese and onion pie) being particulary delicious. The staff were helpful and friendly and the breakfast tasty and freshly cooked to order. The Punchbowl is an old inn and very picturesque, located in the pretty village of Askham.

Clean, cosy, staff polite and tentative, food in the pub seriously good. Room was just big enough for a couple, clean and fresh, bathroom fairly new to a high standard and all the basics covered with hairdryer, kettle, teas & coffee. Breakfast covered all bases and was delish. Overall great value for money in a great location, closer to both Penrith and Ullswater than first thought. Sure to return!!
