We loved the location of the Crown in the small village of Marnhull. The area was quiet and scenic but with a full and lively customer base, many of them local, giving the pub a lively and friendly atmosphere. The staff on arrival were friendly and efficient but in a nice relaxed manner. We loved our room which was cosy, comfortable and nicely furnished with all we needed in it. Good selection of toiletries, tea and coffee and the added bonus of bottled milk in the fridge. The Crown has a nice sized beer garden where we sat out before our evening meal. The menu for evening meals was comprehensive and we all enjoyed our meals, together with the good and efficient service from the waitresses looking after the tables that evening.

Nothing negative, all good.

It’s a true country pub with a British feel along with welcome non British nationals adding to character ..im encouraging you to visit for anything that pleases. Drink in the bar, light meal or a full on dinner.

I’d prefer if it was fully supported and busy on a Friday night … wonderful bar, outstanding and delicious meals..but in our current economy with prices forced up through Government regulations and products even more expensive popping out for supper and a drink is becoming a luxury… Let’s all try our best even if we cut back on spending to pop out to the local.

The rooms are in an annex away from the main pub so no noise issues. Decor is tasteful and in keeping with the period building. The family room is enormous! Pub staff were very nice and helpful. Nicely cooked hot breakfast to order (but no buffet) and served by a friendly chef. Beautiful location, the pub being apparently characterised in one of Hardy's novels, there are pictures and information lining the corridor. No evening meal this trip but we have eaten there before. The food is pretty good with large portions.

Somewhat squeaky floorboards at night but it's an old building! The roll top bath/over bath shower in the family room isn't accessible for anyone slightly older, but then it is a family room. Would be nice to bathe little ones. The food (evening meal) hasn't always been as hot as I like it to be. But I'm fussy that way.

The Crown is a beautiful old pub, steeped in character. The food was freshly sourced (many vegetables grown on site including tomatoes outside at the front . Although I stayed in one of the heatwaves, the room was remarkably cool and a air con unit was also provided. The milk for the room was fresh and in a fridge along with the water. Much appreciated on the hot days. Although I only had breakfast, which was delicious, the menus for lunches and dinner looked very appetising too. Great place to meet friends too, with a lot of place outside to sit as well as inside.

Dinner was really nice!! Location very practical for commuting to work. Staff really nice and professional. Very comfortable bed.

Room was a bit cold - but luckily there was a small electric heater, which I had to use. Central heating was switched off and therefore towel rail in bathroom did not work. Whilst the breakfast was nice, I am not a fan of having to order the previous evening.... as it's sometimes difficult to know "what you fancy" the following morning. However, pre-ordering means, the breakfast was delivered without delay.

A beautiful coaching inn with tasteful, in keeping en-suite bedroom with a touch of elegance. Lovely to have a cushioned window seat, an extra furry throw if needed, wicker baskets on the bed holding fluffy white towels, environmentally friendly, quality toiletries in the bathroom (full to leave, not take away sizes), fresh milk and water in the fridge. Not a large room, but cosy and comfortable with floorboards slightly warped with age. Excellent breakfast pre-ordered for a set time, from a good choice, but a breakfast basket option offered if you wanted a lie in past 9 am (weekdays). Big choice of lunch and dinner items. Superb Ploughman’s Platter at lunch with dill pickles and piccalilli so good we wish we’d asked the make. A lovely treat to get liver and onions in the evening, rarely seen on menus these days. A very relaxing ambiance in the oak beamed restaurant and lovely, helpful, staff.

We both found the mattress a bit uncomfortable, which is unusual for us, but that small thing was off set by everything else which we loved.

Really loved this pub B&B, I wish I had stayed two nights here rather than spending the previous one in the centre of Dorchester. It was the little things that made it for me - very modern country decor, fresh milk and cold water in the fridge, they use refillable Faith in Nature products - very little plastic waste gets a big thumbs up from me. Lovely soft towels, modern ensuite and a very comfortable bed. They have made an effort with decent secondary glazing to keep out the road noise, and it is a very quiet road other than first thing in the morning. The breakfast was ordered the night before which I don't mind in a small place like this, and the local meat for the full english was very tasty

Nothing I didn't like

The rooms are in a converted barn which results in very interesting rooms. Our room was huge and included 2 sofas. The room must be a nightmare to clean with all the beams, nooks and crannies, but they had done a pretty good job under the circumstance's. The room was well equipped and we really appreciated the fresh milk in the (silent) fridge and good selection of drinks including fruit teas and hot chocolate. The pub has plenty of car parking and some great features including a priest hole! and 2 lovely beer gardens including one to the rear where you can watch the chickens! We had a very pleasant meal in the evening and a great breakfast. The breakfast has to be pre ordered the night before which may not suit everyone, but does mean it arrives quickly and very fresh (as long as you turn up at the correct time).

I am afraid the road noise was an issue, but it is set right on the road! Our bathroom had a role top bath with a shower over. For the shower to work in this setting a lip has been built over the side of the bath. This feature was not of the highest quality and is clearly quite hard to keep clean and in good condition.

Another amazing visit. This place is so beautiful. The food is delicious, behind the bar you have Mark who is great at what he does, he’s also pretty hilarious! I wish I could remember the girls name behind the bar, she also was brilliant. I think maybe her name was Niamh? We had a great time and very much look forward to coming back soon.

Our only criticism is the poached eggs at breakfast, sadly they were over cooked and tasted quite strongly of vinegar. Everything else was lovely though. Excellent produce and a lovely choice.

The room was well appointed, and it had a fridge with fresh milk. The bed was comfortable with supportive pillows, the towels were large and fluffy. The staff were friendly and helpful. The menu was varied and the portions generous, my husband thought the mixed grill the best he has eaten out.

Although infrequent the noise from passing traffic was noticeable during the night. The dessert I ordered was dry but with the addition of pouring cream supplied, it was edible. The addition of clothes hooks on the wall to hang wet coats would be useful, as would the addition of a bed side table at the left side of the bed .
