The Board Inn met all my requirements for the area that I wanted to visit. The facility is a mid 18th Century Inn that has been modernised to a high and comfortable standard. The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed all the meals that I ate there. The breakfasts were excellent. The evening meals were all of what I might term "high standard bar meals with plenty of choice:" the prices were very good. My room was clean, tidy and comfortable though space was a little "tight" when all my luggage was inside. Lealholm itself is a quiet, small rural village in North Yorkshire though the road traffic can seem very busy. There is a small post office, a general store and a garage/filling station as well as a small shop selling sandwiches and cakes. There are also several small tea shops but visitors should note that these may not always be open for business when they want them to be. That said my visit did rather border on being "out of season."

My one negative issue was reported to the owner before depature.

The owners Adele and John were very friendly and helpful..the room was clean and beds very comfortable...breakfast was fab and set you up for the day ahead. We had an evening meal aswel and it was fab...the beef n blackbean sauce with rice was lovely.

We stayed for 2 nights and left the used towels in the shower liked asked to on the notice in the bathroom. The notice says if the towels have been uses please put in the shower so they know to get changed for fresh ones...we came back to our room around 7-45pm and the only thing that got changed was the toilet roll the used towels was still in the shower. Glad we kept one or 2 clean ones so we could get showered again without using wet or damp towels. I'm not sure how often everyone else changes towels but a fresh set for 3 of us would of been nice. Apart from that everything else was fab.

It's a beautiful location, we received a lovely warm welcome from the owners and other guests. The room was amazing, well appointed, clean and spacious for such a beautiful old building. The food, dinner and breakfast were delicious. The dinner was well priced and the large breakfast was included in the price. We'd recommend them highly and as a bonus, the TV village of Aidensfield (real name Goathland) from Heartbeat is a few short miles away.

The bacon at breakfast was unsmoked but that's a personal preference NOT a fault. Most places we've stayed only offer unsmoked bacon but it would be nice to be made aware/given the choice.

Adele and John were excellent hosts, from point of contact before our stay, right up to the day we left. We were made to feel very welcome. We stayed on New Year's Eve as we wanted to get away to see in the new year in a relaxed, quiet atmosphere, and that's exactly what we got - it couldn't have been better. Breakfast, the following morning, was freshly cooked and delicious. Our room was clean and spacious with a lovely touch of a bottle of beer and can of gin in our mini-fridge when we arrived. If you're looking for a small country pub to get away from the rat-race, where the hosts and local people are very welcoming, then this is the perfect spot. We'll definitely be back. Thank you, Adele and John x

The Board Inn is in a beautiful spot very close to Whitby and Danby Castle. The accommodation sits at the edge of a bridge over a river in the small village of Lealholm. It’s a very picturesque spot. We loved the fact that the accommodation was above a country pub. It’s an old building and each of the rooms is unique however all were very comfortable and well appointed. As a family we stayed for two nights in 5 of the bedrooms. We loved the pub and the selection of local ales and gins. The food was excellent from the tapas available on Saturday night to the fantastic breakfast we were given (full cooked English as well as pancakes and smoked salmon with scrambled eggs). By far the best thing though is Karen and Al who own and run The Board Inn. They were warm, receptive and engaging from beginning to end. Nothing was too much of a trouble. They could not do enough for us! We will definitely return and can’t recommend it highly enough.

There is nothing ‘not’ to like!

Charming pub in a scenic location convenient for coast and Moors. Massive breakfast with Richmond vegetarian sausages available. Good selection of real ale - Timothy Taylor’s Boltmaker grand - friendly staff. We had room number 1 which has an extra room containing a fridge, desk and sofa - plenty of room to spread out.

The bathroom has very low headroom so no room for a shower and neither of us oldies has felt safe having a bath in years.

Comfortable rooms, lots of extra touches including homemade flapjack and a welcome drink. Even a tiny sewing kit. Every detail considered. Very freindly couple ran business. Beautiful location. Food and drink excellent, perfect hot breakfasts and fresh hot coffee. Comfy bed, very clean. Close to a train station and a little shop etc a taste of small village life.

If I had to be picky maybe 2 large towels when 2 guests booked, but not a issue really. I have no complaints at all.

Firstly the staff were extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming and left a brilliant first impression. The room had every facility you could need and was warm, comfortable and clean. The location of the property is ideal for those heading into the North Yorkshire Moors national park or down to Whitby, and it is also easily walking distance from a National Rail station in the village so it is well served by public transport for such a rural area. The car parking was just on the road outside and I had no issues at all finding a space. There were no restrictions on how long you could park there.

This isn't really a criticism, but I had seen a few reviews saying the rooms were on the small side, and I think I could apply that to the room I had. This was not a problem for me at all but it could possibly be something to consider when booking yourself.

Lovely owners, very welcoming and super cosy atmosphere, in a really nice scenic and peaceful location. Bed was very comfortable and room was clean, not too far from more busy areas by car.

When turned on the jets in the jacuzzi bath, black bits started coming out of them, unfortunately ruining the bathing experience, other than that everything was perfect.

Very grateful to The Board Inn for being flexible after Northern Rail cancelled the last train - as they unexpectedly weren't doing food on a Tuesday (hence the less than full marks for "facilities" which were otherwise excellent) we had to eat in the next town. We managed to hitch a lift and arrived quite late. Breakfast was very good and the location is excellent.

We were disappointed when they turned out not to be doing food as we'd chosen the place as the end point to a long walk with a good meal before bed - we would have tried to stay elsewhere had we known. The room was small and sweltering (a small fridge whirred frantically away in a hot cupboard, heating up the room further whilst trying to keep cool the small amount of milk that we didn't want anyway), and abundantly supplied with pillows and pointless fluffy cushions for which there was barely enough floor space to discard them on.
