The Bird In Hand Inn, Witney

Location, amazing food and restaurant (especially breakfast), well equipped rooms other than below, very friendly staff, parking and access to the property.

The rooms could do with a fridge and air conditioning as an option, especially for Asian or foreign guests.

This was a perfect base for an event i was working at for 4 days. The accommodation is separate which means there is no noise from the pub (not that its a noisy venue!). The room was spacious and clean with good WiFi and team making facilities. The pub has a countryside setting and seems to be a destination for evening meals as it was pretty full every evening. I ate there every evening and the food was really good; fresh produce, varied menu, breakfast was nice too with continental and cooked food available. I will definitely use the venue again if i am back in the area with work.

Nothing really, I had to miss breakfast on the Saturday morning as i was working and breakfast did not start until 08:30 (07:30 start weekdays), but i understand that it was the weekend and you need to look after your staff!

We loved everything about our stay at the Bird in Hand inn. We arrived and went straight into the inn where we were met with a Very Happy atmosphere which was brought on by the owners and staff, who are the most welcoming and happy that we have seen. (I can honestly say I went away to destress and just by meeting these happy people on the first night made me smile) We booked a table for dinner, And then went to our room which was so clean, warm,spacious and tidy, we relaxed for an hour then got ready for dinner. we went in and got taken to our table in this beautifully designed inn, My starter was home made pate on warm toast. Wife’s starter was King prawn with mussels. they arrived in quick time and we both said how exceptional this food was. My main was Lambs Liver with Bacon, Wife’s main was Fish and Chips, These I know are simple old traditional dishes, somehow the chef has turned them into something special which we enjoyed immensely. We don’t normally have pudding but we had to try it and see if it was as good as what we’d already eaten, we had the apple and peach crumble with vanilla custard, I hope my mother doesn’t read this post as it’s the best crumble I’ve ever eaten mothers is now second. The beers we had with dinner were perfectly kept. 10/10 to the Bird in Hand from us we loved everything about our stay. Thankyou

Everything it’s Beautiful.

The courtyard of rooms was a very pleasant surprise. It added to the atmosphere of our stay. The room and bathroom were everything we could have hoped for. Thee staff were bright and cheerful and very welcoming. The evening meal was very enjoyable and we had a lovely breakfast. We were on a series of one night stays around the country including national chain hotels. The Bird in Hand won hands down.

The question for me is what was there to dislike? Our judgement will be reflected by return visits!

The room space is amazing and in the pub/restaurant as we had our twins with us! The staff were lovely! Made us feel really welcome and even though they were fully booked for dinner accommodated us and brought desert to our room as our children were tired! They couldn’t be more helpful - don’t know the ladies name she had short blonde hair and I think she made it that bit more special - nothing is too much trouble! For us it’s an important part of a trip, as we choose to come here twice - three times a year. We have 5 children and it’s our place where we come to chill! My granny and auntie stay here a-lot too! Meal was lovely - husband had fillet steak and thought it was delicious and he is hard to please with steaks.

Room was a little warm but had a fan in the room so that was easily solved and a fridge isn’t provided in the room, which for us with children we like as they like a cup of tea in the morning.

A fabulous, traditional pub styled and decorated to the highest of standards. In fact, everything about this comes from a really high standard, staff, food, cleanliness. The staff were genuinely lovely! We'd got diverted and delayed due to road closures caused by the Grand Prix at Silverstone. The restaurant was full but we were put at ease by front of house assuring us it was no problem, get settled, freshen up and the table will be here when you're ready. We checked in and went to our room in the courtyard chalets. The room was tastefully decorated in neutral shades, spotlessly clean and fresh. The bed and pillows were exactly to our liking and ensured a great nights sleep. Evening meal was excellent. The pate followed by a fillet steak were flavoursome, well presented and cooked to perfection. Whoever is supplying their produce deserves a lot of credit as well as the chef! Breakfast again was first-class, the same high quality produce, cooking and presentation as the night before. So tasty and lovely surroundings. A hard working team make this place worthy of high praise and 5 stars. Superb! If we're in that area again we wouldn't think twice about staying again.

Having to leave!

Absolutely everything! The room was tastefully decorated, very spacious and , above all quiet! The bed was so comfortable and the en suite facilities excellent. We stayed for 3 nights and had breakfast each morning and this was plentiful, tasty with lots of choices available from a full cooked English breakfast or, if you wanted, toast and cereal. We had one evening meal there and WOW! It was amazing. Definitely a 10 out of 10 stay and we look forward to visiting again in the future.

It's not that we didn't like - we did! Honestly! But just a tip for anyone wishing to book here - the address says Witney but it is about 4 miles out of town and is a standalone place surrounded by countryside. You will need transport. For us though it was great and ideally situated to tour around the Cotswolds and the surrounding area.

Everything! The location was great. The hospitality we were shown on arrival was good, and the room and the bathroom were exceptional. They were spacious, spotlessly clean, and the (sleigh) bed was very comfortable. The restaurant had a lovely ambience, and the waiting and bar staff were friendly and efficient. The food was excellent. We would highly recommend the Bird in Hand, and we hope to return in the future.

The toaster was very slow-working. A muesli option would have been good, but the cooked breakfasts were delicious.

The location was ideal as a base to go and see places in Oxfordshire and even though it is situated on a main road it was in fact very peaceful The staff were welcoming and friendly The accommodation which was separate to the main building was spacious and was cleaned every day the main bar and dining area was well laid out and clean The staff always appeared to be on the go doing something and there seemed to be a good working relationship between them The breakfast was exceptional

I have no criticism of the property at all

Everything about the The Bird in Hand was wonderful from the point of booking in with cheerful owners and staff. The room was clean and spacious (we had our puppy sleeping in a crate) as described with an extremely comfortable bed, bathroom clean and also spacious. Breakfast, very good choice of cereals, toast etc and a large selection of quality cooked breakfast. We had dinner just one night and were certainly not dissapointed, double gloucester souffle, rare steak with peppercon sauce and finished with a baileys esspresso creme brulee .... all superb! Substantial wine list with many wines you would expect to see however try the local Oxfordshire wine for a change, you won`t be dissapointed.

It is not a question of what I didn`t like it is something that could be improved on which is quite common in hotel rooms. The dressing table could be better lit for my wife to do her make up and with a better positioned power point for the hairdryer. For me not wearing make up or blow drying my hair it makes no difference 😉
