Exceptional customer service from the moment we checked in which continued throughout our stay. All staff were friendly, down to earth and helpful in every aspect. Perfect location less than 10 minutes walk to York Minster. The interior decoration throughout the hotel is to a very high standard with a tasteful mix of traditional and contemporary design. We dined in the restaurant on New Years Eve and offered choice from two menus both very reasonably priced with a range of dishes to choose from. Food absolutely delicious far exceeded our expectations. We will definitely return to this little gem of a hotel.

We thought parking at £15 per night was rather excessive in particular when paying £190 per night for a small double room.

The location was perfect although the train line outside the bedroom meant being woken at 6am with a high speed train passing! Other than that, the nearby wildlife was a joy to hear first thing in the morning. The breakfast was good and filling although options were limited and more choice would have been nice. The decor in the hotel and our room was lovely and added to the overall ambience of the hotel as well as providing a talking point! The reception staff were very helpful and always available when needed, nothing was a bother to them which made us feel like valued guests at the hotel. Upon arrival in our room we did notice a plug charger lying on the floor behind one of the bedside cabinets as well as a crisp packet underneath the bed. When we informed the reception staff of this apologies were offered as well as the offer of giving the room another clean for us. At that point my husband and I had already settled into the room and advised reception that we would deal with the issue ourselves and didn’t require additional cleaning. It was reassuring that the staff at reception were keen to help in any way possible although it was disappointing that a hotel of this calibre had obviously not carried out thorough cleaning of the room or a quality check prior to our arrival. Parking facilities at the hotel were ideal although slightly overpriced.

The menu for evening meals appeared limited and for that reason we did not eat at the restaurant in the evening.

Location, so close to the centre. Staff were lovely and so helpful. The room was very comfortable, the bed also. They do a great pizza from a wood fired oven in the garden, it’s not to be missed. The parking is great although please ensure that you understand that there is a charge of £15, which due to the location of the hotel I think is reasonable.

It’s not that we didn’t like this it’s that the we prefer a simple breakfast generally porridge with fruit, this option is on their menu but at £17, we opted to breakfast in town. I would recommend that the breakfast menu has several pricing options.

We liked that it was very modern even for an older building and very comfortable, staff were super friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived with special thanks to the guy who was serving outside who got us a table and looked after us all night. Room was lovely very clean and cosy we stayed in the bunker. The bed was also very comfortable and we had a great sleep. Breakfast was outstanding set in a beautiful room we were in awe with it. The pizza we had outside might be the best I’ve had we can’t wait to come back

Only thing we would say is that we had some loud noises from the bar upstairs at night but wasn’t enough to keep us up. The room could benefit from a better air condition unit as it got a bit warm on the hot days we stayed

Loved the location, perfect for walking to the attractions and town. Plenty of parking. Uniquely styled hotel with a dark, impressive decor. Greeted by lovely receptionists who offered to help with luggage and were very knowledgeable about the area and were always happy to assist in answering queries. We had the bunker room which I requested and was allocated so very grateful for that. Very cozy and we loved it but not one for you if you like a window or can become claustrophobic. Not a fan of wet rooms, which this room had, but it had a good hot shower, was spotlessly clean and it was my choice to book that room, so on my head be it. Breakfast was plentiful, lots of choice, all nicely presented. Lovely dining room to eat in. Waiting staff very attentive. Had an evening meal which again was very well done and very tasty and the waiting staff were great. Two menus to choose from and both had really varied dishes. My fiancé had the French onion soup which was delicious and rump steak which he said was the best he’d had in a long time. Both of us had puddings and they were lovely. We really enjoyed our stay at the Churchill. Thank you.

My only gripe is that we stayed at the hotel for three nights and our room wasn’t serviced once. I had to ask several times for fresh mugs, glasses, spoons, new tea bags and milk. We had the same towels for three days and on the last day my fiancé had to go to the reception to ask for more loo roll. Given that this stay cost nearly £600, I think these things should have been done without having to ask each time.

A truly boutique hotel so ideal for any fan of WSC as there are several gigantic Churchillian images in public areas not forgetting a bust of WSC and a huge bottle of WSC’s favourite tipple, Pol Roger standing on the large mantelpiece in the delightful bright dining room! The hotel does even sell the bottles of its own brand of gin and vodka which would be very excellent festive gifts to any admirer of WSC! High marks for an army of very attentive staff who appear to enjoy their duties with friendly faces and ready to assist with our needs. The location of the hotel is absolutely brilliant for its close proximity to the city centre with very easy walking distance with absolutely no gradient to tackle.

Being in the time of the unusual time of the record-breaking September heatwave, our bed was covered with the thick duvet so suitable for the winter. We have however both slept on top of such the duvet! Parking space is very tight especially when large cars are facing each other causing difficulties to manoeuvre as our dinner guest had struggled for few minutes before getting out of his bay.

The staff were superb! A very helpful, friendly and delightful young lady on check in and check out. Very helpful and friendly waiters at dinner and breakfast and in the bar. Excellent location within easy walking distance of historic centre with safe secure parking. Nice meal with reasonably priced wine. Good WiFi throughout hotel.

Room (the Bunker 140) was dark and insufficient lighting to fully illuminate room. A shower in a bath in a hotel room is no longer acceptable - far too dangerous for elderly guests climbing in and out of bath onto slippy floor. A guest will seriously themselves and you will be open to litigation.

Location was 10/10. Gentleman greeted us on the Friday and was so bubbly and helpful, got us off to a great start. Staff the rest of the weekend were quite when walking through reception. They let us use the car park till 2 at no cost meaning we could go get lunch before we left which was lovely. Hotel was brilliant but rain meant we couldn't make the most of it sadly.

didn't use the breakfast as it looked overpriced. Room was small and no view, barely let light in as it was a corner back in on itself. Wouldn't like to squeeze a range rover through the gates to get into the car park either but that's only minor.

The location was great, close to the museum, minster and city centre. Everything was within walking distance. The room was small but well equipped and the bathroom superb. We had breakfast, there was a good choice and it was served promptly. It was very good value for money and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful

It is difficult to find fault, the only thing that made us comment was that it was very noisy in the bar when we had a drink before leaving for dinner in the evening. There were a lot of staff talking and the radio contact between the restaurant and kitchen was loud! However this is not a complaint, it was the only thing that we noticed and commented upon

My husband and I were visiting from the US and we couldn't have asked for a better location to all of the shops and restaurants York had to offer. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Our breakfast was delicious. They offered two types, a light breakfast with yogurt and fresh fruit and the heartier breakfast with eggs, bacon and toast. The grounds outside have a very inviting seating area with comfortable chairs and umbrellas and heat lamps for the cooler evenings. They offer a variety of snacks as well as some amazing wood fire piazza. We stayed three nights and thought the price we paid was very fair and would happily stay again!
