First and last, the price. We wanted to spend a few days in Death Valley but the prices in the park are astronomical for little more than a Motel 6 room, and food prices there are 2-3 times higher than normal. Amargosa was around $100 a night, and the location, a half hour drive from the sightseeing center of Furnace Creek, was quite convenient, esp. since the drive to Furnace Creek passed two of the top sights, Dante's View and Zabriskie Point. Also, Amargosa itself is a tourist sight--you pay $10 for a tour of the opera house and learn the amazing story of Marta Becket who spent 50 years there putting on shows. The walls of the hotel and opera house were all painted by Marta, and the scenes are wonderful. We also liked (and needed) the microwave and large fridge provided, since the hotel serves no food and you have to bring your own. The nearest restaurant is at a casino 7 miles away, and that can get quite crowded.

You have to be up for a little funkiness. The hotel is a giant maintenance headache, and the small staff can't really keep up. Our sink in Room 2 wouldn't drain, and they couldn't fix it in the 4 days we were there. The WiFi worked fine, but don't expect a TV or radio, except in the "commons room" where you can eat and play games and watch the DVD "Amargosa" about Marta's life. I am really worried that this place won't last, so if you have a little adventure in your soul, stay here while you can!

We turned up and what somewhat alarmed at the whole thing. I wont lie, it feels like a creepy place in the middle of no where and a bit like the start of a horror film. BUT stick with it. The charm of the place will really grow on you. Do the tour of the opera house, you're missing out if you don't. The staff were lovely and very helpful. The rooms don't have TVs but are perfectly comfy and the Wifi is good. Its charming unique but a bit weird, and who doesn't want that for an overnight in death valley.

Its 10 mins away from the nearest food so bring supplies!

Ive stayed here a few times so I knew what to expect. It appears that some work is being done on both the outside and inside of the hotel to make it look a bit better. This is a one of a kind hotel with a great story and it deserves to live on.

I said this the last time I stayed there, a few years ago. The cafe is not open but they do have coffee, but not until 8AM. I was well gone before then. How about a K cup option for early risers or leaving the water and coffee out and allowing the first riser to make the first pot of coffee in the morning. Otherwise, there was nothing that I didn't like.

We like remote places and were looking for a base to start our Death Valley adventure with a twist - traveling from Las Vegas and the Hoover Dam. This quaint hotel proved to be a very good choice. It was interesting to learn the history of Marta Becket and her opera. Expect no frills and bring your own food. Enjoy the history. Play the piano in the dining room. The front desk staff had a strong customer focus and were extremely helpful. We will remember Armagosa Hotel very fondly.

It was disappointing that the theater was closed for the summer due to extreme heat - and there were no tours. Nevertheless, the entire experience was great!

I very much enjoyed my stay at the Amargosa. Guests should know upfront, however, that this is a 100-year old historic facility and it looks it, inside and out. It's also in the middle of nowhere, about 1.5 hrs from Death Valley National Park. It will definitely be a "rustic" experience, but the wonderfully friendly staff will make it all worth it. Keep in mind that you're stepping back in time 100-years, manage your expectations and embrace the experience!

The desert location was amazing. The background of how this place came to be was very interesting. The display units in the office area was very good to examine. Tabitha was so helpful and went the extra mile to help us with our questions. Allthough the rooms are small and quaint this only adds to the romantic aspect of the location. Our friends who travelled with us were amazed and loved th4 place and its location

a microwave OR tea/coffee machine would be nice, taking on board its ancient background the few defects such as a missing tile were did not cause concern Tea/coffee and pure water was available in the main room. A large Fridge was i evidence but not sure if it could be used---would be good to mention this if it is(Maybe it was mentioned and I missed itloved the

The manager Michaela was great. Her customer service was superb, she made sure we had everything we needed. Answered all our questions. After we checked out we realized we left our cellphone & seen Michaela at lunch, told her & she immediately left & met us back at the hotel to give us our phone. Very trustworthy staff.

The building is old so the plumbing is a bit smelly & the room was a tad chilly, but they provided a heater that helped. A few updates definitely would fix it all.

It's an older property about a 1/2 hour from the entrance to Death Valley. The staff is very friendly. It's run by a non-profit organization. The room was clean and the bed comfortable but the rooms shows it's age. They haven't put any money into restoring the buildings so keep that in mind as you stay there.

They really need to start upgrading the property as the wear and tear of age is unappealing in many areas. Also they need darker curtains on rooms facing the road as daylight comes through pretty early in the morning.

This is a unique, amazing place. If you want a boring, predictable, conventional hotel, then stay elsewhere. But if you want a historical building in a starkly beautiful setting with a fascinating backstory, consider the Amargosa Hotel. And make sure to take time for a tour of the Opera House.

I have nothing negative to say. I really don't want the operators of this hotel to change a thing. It's a basic hotel, but more homey. I didn't expect a bunch of fancy amenities, and adding them would detract from the experience.

This is a very old property. But loved the history and culture. Beds were very comfortable. Furnishing old but kept up. Paint peeling on walls, old fixtures in room and bath. Shower and tub fine. No breakfast but coffee available in old dining room. Part of lodge blocked off. Only rent 12 rooms at a time. Okay it’s funky but clean and funky. Did not get to your opera house but will next time. Yes we would stay again.

Older than I expected but when I learned more history liked staying at historical landmark site. No restaurants in Death Valley junction. Bring your own food or eat in pahrup or Death Valley park.
