Chose this hotel simply as it was about halfway on our road trip leg, We didn't expect much, and just booked on price and were really pleasantly surprised. The Motel had a charming log-cabin feel about it and the rooms were large and very clean and way better appointed than we expected. The inn was right by the ocean and we had nice sunsets and wonderful sunrise walks overall really enjoyed our stay. The town is very quiet and only has limited dining options, so it was great to see a detailed guide of all the options and closing times for everywhere, very thoughtful

We never got to meet any staff, they had gone before we arrived and were not around in the morning. The key was left and check-in was hassle-free but a bit weird not seeing anyone.

Our hotel room was very clean, quiet and comfortable. The front office staff was very friendly and personable. Perfect location!

Our room had a kitchenette, but there were no utensils or plates. We could have used a couple of spoons to stir our morning coffee and eat some breakfast yogurt. Also, the sheets smelled like they had been washed in a scented detergent. This is a challenge for people who are allergic to scented products. Neither of these items would interfere with us staying at this property again however.

Location right on the bluff, able to step outside and walk a few steps to view sunset, walk to get coffee, breakfast, groceries, meals. Felt very safe and hospitable; met all my needs. Great for bringing my dog, very friendly manager. Information on how to operate tv, heat/ air and coffeemaker very clearly provided in room , which was quite helpful.

The hostess, Jane, was very friendly and helpful with recommendations for restaurants and short cuts in our travel plans back to our home.

The smart TV was smarter than us! We had difficulty getting to the TV side. Grab bars in the shower would be a welcomed addition. The air conditioner and heat was difficult for us to figure out how to use.

The location was fantastic and the large window in our room faced the ocean and beach. There was a hiking trail along the embankment looking out over the ocean and a fire pit with chairs to do the same. We had breakfast watching the waves, other people staying saw the whales. The owner Jade was very kind and attentive and recommended a good restaurant with a view of the sunset

Such a wonderful motel. We loved our stay. It was our cozy hub as we toured and hiked around Mendocino county. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The view from the bluff was gorgeous, day and night. The rooms were quiet and warm. We arrived for a late check in. The woman at the front desk left us a kind voicemail describing where to find our keys and where to park. Prior to our arrival, she flipped on the T.V., left breakfast goodies in our refrigerator and turned on the heat in our room. It was cold in Gualala that night we arrived so the heat was a very thoughtful touch. We very much appreciated being able to bring our two dogs as well, making our two-day escape from San Francisco possible.

I only wish there was a broom in the room. We felt bad leaving fur and sand on the floors. If we had a broom we could have swept a little bit for the house cleaners.

The room was small, but efficient. Has a nice coffee pot, everything we needed. Perfect location.

They advertise as having a full breakfast, which they have not provided for at least 2 years. They don't offer any food at all. We were very disappointed as my husband has diabetes and needs to eat on arising, so we had to spend more money on restaurants.

Great location in the center of the town. You can walk to the grocery stores and cafe close by. Directly at the coast with beautiful ocean views. Very dog friendly. Outdoor seating is very nice with stunning views. Apartment had everything we needed (fridge, microwave) and we liked the spacious shower.

Wifi not very fast in case you need it for work. Rooms are a little outdated and could use some touch ups.

My husband and I stayed here last weekend to celebrate my birthday. It has been a tough two years, as I am a health care worker, and even though I am not on the front lines, the pandemic weighs upon you. Additionally, I lost a sister to pancreatic cancer recently, and I needed something nice and wonderful to bring peace. I just wanted to sit and stare at the ocean. This mini-vacation -- and the Surf Inn -- fit the bill completely. The wonderful woman at the front desk, Jade, suggested that I upgrade to the king suite, which has a fireplace and a huge window and three comfy chairs overlooking the ocean. It was gorgeous! Our standard poodle, Stella, was traveling with us and gives a four paws up review on the yummy dog treats provided and the fireplace blower. There is a lovely firepit onsite, and a great walking path with stellar views. Due to COVID, breakfast was not offered, but Jade gave us a bag with yogurt, biscotti, granola bars and hard-boiled eggs. We opted to go to one of the restaurants she recommended, Trinks, for breakfast.

If you normally stay at the Ritz Carlton and expect turndown service, mints on your pillow, fluffy, white Egyptian cotton towels and room service, this is not the place for you. This is a wonderful small hotel on the Mendocino coast, with terrific customer service, a friendly atmosphere, and stunning views of the ocean.

We booked a room with a view of the ocean and boy, it was worth it!! The serene setting was just perfect. Our room was well appointed and quiet. Jade, our host, was incredibly kind and welcoming. The proximity to the Gualala Point Regional Park and coastal hiking was remarkable. I would highly recommend a stay at the Surf Inn for those looking to connect with nature and slow down a bit, very enjoyable stay, we will return.
