I stayed here on my way to Bishop for an Ultramarathon. The views of the mountains were beautiful, especially first thing in the morning. It's located right at the intersection of highway 395 and the Whitney Portal road which would make it very easy to get an early start on hiking in the area. It was an excellent stop along the way to Bishop (only about an hour away). In addition to the views and convenient locations, the rooms are well designed and the staff is very friendly.

There was nothing that I didn't like.

Love the key pad door for entry. Made the late check in very convenient. The room was very clean and A/C worked great. I also like that the room had a microwave. I had a very restful sleep. Thank you.

The bunk beds were quite squeaky and loud. Very little movement will trigger a loud noise. If you're a light sleeper the bunkbeds might not be the way to go.

The location is very convenient for hiking destinations around Mt Whitney. I stayed in the dorm rooms which are accessible 24/7 and obviously has traffic coming in and out. It was still pretty quiet and comfortable.

Went to solo hike Mt. Whitney. The property was located at the intersection of Whitney Portal Road and Hwy 395, which was in the center of Lone Pine near services and attractions. Beds were spaced far enough apart in the dorm room to not feel overcrowded. The microwave and shower and sink were just what I needed. Outside was well lit with a picnic table to eat at and made it easy to empty trash from the car for the drive to Whitney Portal at 1:30 a.m., which was ideal because it is pitch black up there at night. I did book early and got a greatly reduced rate.

The bed and pillow were not very comfortable. Also, there was traffic noise. Something to consider. Maybe that's helpful if you need to get up at 1:00 a.m., though.

Being this a hostel, we expected the very minimum, but it offered more then some fancy hotels we stayed at. Great value for money. Receptionists very kind and helpful. Fridge and table in the room, space for your luggage, coffee machine available. Easy parking. Great surroundings, near the Alabama Hills. All much appreciated.

Nothing to add

I love this hostel so much! The room is always very clean, the staff is friendly and everything has been renovated recently. I have been taking a room every year for more than 10 years now. The owner has done regular renovations and has added new things in every room. It’s a pleasure to return here, my beautiful home away from home close to my favorite mountain!

I love everything about this property

Centrally located. Staff were responsive and friendly. Store offered many items which was helpful if you needed last minute things.

There were numerous crickets that were in the room, and continued to keep getting in. I didn't mention it to the front desk, we just kept capturing them, and then put them outside.

Very open and accomodating wait area and staff, and the location was nice.

We were in an ADA room, which is not problem. But surprisingly there was little surface to put anything anywhere, particularly in the vast toilet/shower/sink room--no area to the side of the sink, especially. Always, too, hooks in rooms are appreciated, and this room had little, even in the shower/toilet room.

Room was nice and clean. Beds were comfortable. The view of the mountains right outside the window were gorgeous.

The check-in process was automated via text, which was not what I expected (very Airbnb-like). This is fine, but was initially confusing since it was unexpected. I would suggest a heads-up of the check-in process.

Easy check in - received a text with room number and key code info. Clean facilities, comfortable beds, fridge, and microwave in room. Excellent location for exploration of town and attractions.

Wifi wasn't working. A bigger TV would have been nice - what they had was more of a computer monitor.
