Wonderful historic building with lots of interest. Excellent location with open loading area and free parking in back. Functional elevator which often is unexpected in old buildings as well as climate controlled. Staff was incredibly kind, helpful and knowledgeable. Questions were quickly answered thoroughly, and we were even able to arrange an extra hour for check out. Such a convenient location to the main downtown street and access to the freeway. Overall an excellent location and value. Worked out perfectly for our long weekend at the nearby El Dorado Fairgrounds.

Really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. I am very glad the reception desk was open until 8 pm as traffic delays made us nearly 2 hrs later than our expected arrival time. We were also on a tight schedule so after checking in went to a nearby wedding until 11pm. I was exhausted and we both slept very well in a comfy King sized bed. I appreciate being in a room away from the main street as there was music across the street. The bath was lovely and warm. Also I liked the heavy bed clothes. It's a good place to stay for a Placerville wedding.

I wish I'd been able to play the old piano - I had no time, I had music with me. I am glad the hotel told people not to put anything on it. I just wondered who they let play it - whether guests who know how to play suitable music could try a piece or two on it?

We really loved the location, located right on Main St in Placerville, you couldn't ask for a better location! We really enjoyed the balcony as well. I would have loved to spend more time there, overlooking Main Street. We were the only ones out there and did have to ask for a key from the front desk. The room exceeded our expectation too. Parking was super easy, there is a lot you can use right behind the hotel. Would definitely stay there again.

Everything was great, but if I had to list one negative, I did feel the staff wasn't super friendly. So don't expect it to be a place where you will be greeted every time you walk in.

It felt very cozy, the room has a couch in it which was nice so we could hang with our friend who stayed down the hall. It had a mini kitchen as well which was nice to have. The location is amazing though and we got to check out some cute local shops, and catch some great music at the Green Room right across the street.

I know it is a very old & historic hotel, but there definitely are some signs of aging and lack of upkeep ie wall paper peeling in some areas, stains in the ceiling that looks like old leaks, etc. Definitely felt a bit worn down.

Love the historic building and old furniture especially the lobby.the room was good size for us two.the old elevator with the metal grate inner door was great, we only have seen on TV, never before got to use one.lots of restaurants to walk to all in old historic downtown.

My only suggestion, since it can snow there is to get the same parking availability for the public parking garage across the street as they have for the open parking lots behind the hotel.

The location is fantastic: Right in the center of historic Placerville, with shopping, restaurants in this historic and quaint old town. Parking behind the building, at no extra charge. Also, so cool that it is a historic hotel, with the "second oldest" elevator West of the Mississippi, historic hotel registers and other items on display in the lobby, etc.. In the room, the furniture was antique and there was even a set of old books on the dresser. Was glad that they had signs near the sink that you might have to wait for warm/hot water. The place had character and was definitely a unique stay. We enjoyed it and were so happy that we decided to stay here.

Our room faced Main Street and was directly across the street from a bar with a live band. It was a little noisy, but we were so tired that we were able to sleep.

This is an old hotel that is clean, comfortable and most importantly historic. There are many options for eating, drinking, shopping right out the front door that are easily walkable. A really fun place to stay after exploring the area wineries all day.

A porter at the unloading drive up would have been nice but not absolutely necessary.

The lobby is super interesting and there are a lot of things to check out. The rooms are styled with vintage furniture and it gives a cool vibe. Our room had a little kitchenette and it was super handy.

There are no instructions regarding the Heater/AC controls in the room and because it is a very old fashioned system some explanation would be super helpful. Also there is a balcony open to all guests which is cool, but there is no way to enforce the no smoking rule so if guests are out there and smoke it definitely drifts into the rooms that have windows opening on to the balcony.

The location was amazing, a stone throw’s away from anything you needed. Staying at the Cary House Hotel was like stepping into a time machine, with the old style elevator and everything. The room we stayed in was comfy, the water pressure for a historic hotel was phenomenal, and just had an overall great feel.

The room that we stayed in, the floor was a little uneven, so when we were laying in bed, our feet were slightly above our head in elevation, which made it slightly hard to sleep. However, what do you expect from such a historic landmark?
