Location was excellent for reaching Gaslamp, little Italy and waterfront areas of San Diego. The breakfast was fantastic and the rooftop bar was great. We also made use of the gym. We had an issue at the rooftop bar one evening, but the reception staff were really proactive and dealt with it well.

I was surprised to still be charged a resort fee when I was quite sure all fees had been included in the original booking.com price - and this was one of the reasons I had booked this particular hotel as I didn’t think there would be other ‘surprises’. (I checked again now on the booking.com website and resort fee is included in the price for this hotel). So I’m not quite sure what happened, but was left with a feeling I may have overpaid.

Room and staff

I called the hotel. The Marriot lady told me that Hotel parking was complimentary. We found out that it was not, they charged us $50.00 per day. In addition WiFi was not free.

Really nice hotel. The interior is stylish yet tasteful and modern. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was well-sized, clean and comfy. Also, the location of the hotel is great. It is very central, yet relatively quiet and only a few walking minutes away from many points of interest, such as the Midway, the Marina or the Gaslamp Quarter. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay and would totally choose this hotel again.

The place is rather pricey but still in an acceptable range, given the standard an the location. Also it has a nice open air bar, the "Topside Terrace", which has a lovely atmosphere and decent food and drinks but the most incompetent service I've encounterd in a long time.

Great staff, great location. Comfortable and easy to find.

The refrigerator didn't operate properly so our snacks and left over food spoiled

There was no pool

Great hotel, staff friendly and helpful. Clean, quiet and conveniently located. We walked everywhere. Parking was expensive, everywhere in downtown is, but there is a nearby lot that we used. Unfortunately it did not have in/out privileges. We had breakfast every morning, generous serving sizes and very tasty. Will stay here again without hesitation.

The cleanliness and professionalism of the staff was a huge breath of fresh air. I had gone to San Diego for the my husbands birthday, our first nights stay was a horrific experience at TWO other hotels, this is what made us so grateful for the experience at The Republic. The front desk was incredibly reassuring and helpful, the staff was attentive and efficient. Our stay was so relaxing that my husband and I decided to extend our stay for an extra night. The location is central and near everything. This hotel redeemed our weekend vacation and made it so that we had great memories rather than bad ones. I absolutely recommend this hotel. Thank you to the staff for everything we are eternally grateful.

I loved everything about the hotel, just wished it had a pool.

This hotel was great! The rooms were big, clean, and had everything we needed for a quick weekend stay. Included in the resort fee is free WiFi, a food/beverage credit, bike rentals, yoga class, and more! The staff were lovely, too.

We couldn't figure out how to use the phone in the hotel room.

I really enjoyed the vibe and decor of this place. I like that it isn’t far from the destinations I visited. The people who worked valet and the front desk were very friendly and provided great customer service. The bar and lobby are a great hangout spot.

I didn’t like that there was an odd stain near the handle of the toilet. I wasn’t impressed with the cleaning because I found a few things here and there that made me question how thorough they are in that aspect.

the room is small but cozy! i thought the little day bed by the window was adorable. i loved the big closet and mini fridge as well. i love that they had q-tips! ive never seen a hotel have those before. the view was blocked by another building but we didn't spend too much time in the room anyways. the location itself is a little ways away from gaslamp itself so if you're driving around, it makes sense to stay here imo. the staff and valet were incredibly friendly.

the shower was awkward. it only has half of the stall closed off by a "door" (a big pane of glass) and the other half just left open. took a little getting used to. the toilet paper was also awkward to reach.
