April 2023
This being my first time staying at a hostel, I was a bit nervous at first. Right upon arrival I was immediately welcomed in and giving a tour of the hostel despite it being almost midnight. Whenever I had an issue staff would always jump right into action to have it sorted and all in all were very casual and would even sit down among travelers to chat as well as organise trips promoting interaction between travelers and experiencing the local area. The beds had curtains you could close when you wanted privacy, or left open when you wanted to socialise with others in the room. They had houserules in place regarding noise (10pm/22:00) as 'silence hours' to ensure everyone could have a good night's rest. The bathrooms were clean and had free towels for use provided. There were 3 shower units and 3 toilet units in the bathroom, with also 2 single bathrooms for those who weren't comfortable for the shared area. The hostel is right on the edge between Downtown and Little Italy. This location meant that anything within central San Diego was within walking distance and the area having many food venues, convenience stores and even a lightrail station just down the road leading to the northern parts of town and as far as the pedestrian border crossing to Mexico in the south, allowing for day trips to visit Tijuana without the need for a car or taxi.
I had two incidents where my keycard stopped working and one where I accidently locked myself out of my room. Staff however was there every time to sort out my issues and these incidents were only minor annoyances for a few minutes.

First time in a Hostel, first time in San Diego, wasn't sure what to expect from either. I was greeted and checked in by a very nice & helpful manager, he gave me a full tour and right away I had very positive vibes. The house is spacious, organized, clean, charming, and the location was excellent 👍 all the staff was helpful, personable, & made me feel at home, the breakfast is delicious... After spending a full week I had so much fun i was actually sad when it was time to go, they not only treat you like an appreciated guest but also like a friend. I enjoyed my stay, had a lot of fun and met some Great people, there's no doubt I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone. Thank you International Travelers House 👍👍
😊 It's all good. Can't think of any negatives.

The cleanliness is top notch especially the bathrooms. Given they are shared, it’s impressive how impeccable they maintain it at all times. They also have rules for guests displayed clearly. It creates a distinct advantage for them over other hostels in the vicinity. Santiago and the volunteers are always happy to help on any front. It feels like at home. The location is super convenient. You can walk all downtown, close to public transportation (Trolley and bus), great neighborhood for restaurants, Farmers market, Bay Area etc.
Just hard to think one to point it for the sake of it! The goods make you overlook any tiny dislikes.

Gracious room and common area. The kitchen is well furnished and offers a good breakfast for the price. The staff does their best to help you if you need it
Communication is a bit problematic. If you're a traveler from another country and you do not have calls in your phone plan, your best choice to get in touch with them is to write them an email. Considering that they have the reception open from 7am to 4am it would be great to be in touch with them via Booking or WhatsApp for all updates.

I've stayed in a lot of hostels, three in San Diego alone. This must be one of the top three stays I've had! Too comfortable, a lot of details are done particularly well, focusing on the core needs of people living in hostels. The bed is comfortable, the bedside lamp is finally not a dazzling light bulb, the front desk will introduce you to the whole hostel, after determining the room according to the order of your stay to choose the right bed, I feel very respected!

The location of the hostel is great, super close to Little Italy center, a nice, safe area. Public transportation within walkable distance. Super nice and friendly staff and great breakfast included. Big chance to meet people from all around the world - the kind of adventurous hostel you're looking for!
The shower had really weak flow water, it was hard to take a shower or especially wash hair under it. Our room was cold the first night, but as I said, the staff is really nice and we got a heater for the next night :)

The hostel is located very close to Little Italy, staff is very friendly and helpful. I felt they pay a lot of attention, that everything is clean. Also, the bathrooms were kept clean permanentely. You can walk to the Gaslamp Area within 15 minutes or take a cab, which brings you there within 5 minutes. Access to the public transport you have to Green and Blue line (approx. 8 min walk away). For breakfast you can have toast, pancakes, oat flakes, tea and coffee. I really enjoyed my stay there and can recommend the place. The air conditioner was functioning, you also had the possibility to regulate this yourself in the room.
Sometimes I had difficulties to get access to the internet, but this wasn´t a dealbreaker at the end. From time to time it was too noisy, but during night time always okay.

great staff - very friendly and helpful perfect location close to little Italy and to tram which is very helpful for low budget travel this is very particular place - you cannot expect same comfort as in a hotel but the price is much lower and it gives opportunity to meet nice people I stayed in a private room for a week - really nice experience
weekly karaoke is not a good idea everything is old, smell is not the best and it could be cleaner - but still the atmosphere is compensating all of this :)

This is a true international hostel with heart. Our room was small with only basic furniture (but comfortable bed) and we used a shared bathroom. The big difference was that our communal pancake breakfast was a global cross section of people from Canada, Brazil, Madagascar, France, Italy, & Texas who were happy to share their stories. The hostel's location in Little Italy allowed us to take a city bus from the airport late at night and the next day take an enjoyable walk down to the cruise ship terminal.

The property was very clean and well looked after. There was evident pride in keeping up the property as well as creating a sense of camaraderie for those that wanted to take part in group activities. The front desk has all the information about events they host, and also sells many different items for 1$. Bathrooms were always looked after and were never super busy, a good amount of bathrooms for the hostel size. Pancake breakfast looked good, though I never participated.
The laundry machine was run by an outside company so they were not able to fix it when it jammed with coins. Luckily it also works through an app so I was able to use that to pay.
