The Highlander Hotel

The staff was very attentive. I stayed due to an impending snowstorm and they made the stay great. The offered to let me use a conference room for a zoom call and even brought be a robe when I was in the hot tub! They are doing some cosmetic work to the front of the building so was tentative when I came I . But with the wonderful staff and nice amenities it’s a great place to stay. And a cool place to have a family weekend (there’s and arcade m/pool/outdoor games).

The bleach smell after cleaning was strong in my room, but the switches me rooms immediately.

Why I rate this place so high is because of the staff they are the most friendly people I have ever met. I have never been greeted in such a way that I felt I was visiting old friends. They upgraded my room when they realized how big my dogs were so it would be easier for me to take them out. When I ordered food it was brought to my room and again a really friendly experience. If you need a place to stay in the area just stay here I don’t normally write reviews but I wanted to show the staff my appreciation in some way.

The beds were very comfortable. The staff was friendly. Location was good and easy to find.

Our room was located near some very noisy people. Not the hotels fault by any means but it definitely made our stay less enjoyable. Both during the late evening (after 9pm) and morning (8am) there were multiple people walking the halls talking rather loudly on their phones. Also some very rambunctious kids. The breakfast was picked through and not much available at 9:30am. I grabbed a couple muffins which were very tasty. Coffee was good but the cups weren't the cleanest but I need my coffee so I just assumed the heat of the coffee would kill whatever ickyness was left in the cup.

We enjoyed the music playing when we arrived in the entryway and lobby. Such a nice added experience. The staff are extremely kind and helpful. 9-10pm adult only swim time was nice.

The food in the "supper club" area. It could be better. The charcuterie board had a lot of food, but the options weren't up to typical standards.

The breakfast was very good. Presented very well. The decor was unique. We loved the bar atmosphere. The pool was very inviting however we did not have our swim suits. The staff was very helpful.

The price was very high due to it being parents weekend for the university. The lighting in the hallway was a little dark and uninviting. There were dogs barking.

The staff was super friendly. Free adult drink for your first drink was nice. Free coffee, pop and yogurt 24 hours a day. The pool area was awesome. Bar was great. The only negative is you cannot have your own snacks or drinks anywhere in the hotel except your room. Other than that had a great time. Would definitely recommend and go again.

The individuality of this hotel is everything. Unique, colorful, stylish, different. I can’t wait to find another excuse to travel to Iowa city! We were loaned a record player for our room and listen to our choice of records from the hotels record library. Our stylish room Opened up to walk out to the main pool. Staff followed up with us via text to insure we had everything we needed. Drinks from the bar were delicious, as were all of the dishes we ordered via room service. Food seamed to be prepared by a master chef. Nothing mainstream about it. Towels provided were plush…and the beds were Comparable if not better than my own at home. This stay was the unexpected highlight of our travels. Highly recommended. I’m going to tell everyone I know w/ any degree of a hippie like heart that this is a destination in and of itself. Most importantly- the staff rocks!

This place is a hidden gem! The service is the best I’ve ever had. I stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Lauderdale last summer and that service doesn’t even compare to the staff at the Highlander. The pool is amazing! The shallow end is roped from the deep end so I was able to comfortably let my seven year old swim without a life jacket. The glass doors surrounding the pool were partially opened (it was cool so they had the heaters on), leading to a huge outdoor area with tables, fire pits and bean bag toss games. I also had the best pina colada I’ve had in my entire life. They delivered our food and drinks to wherever we wished. We were able to eat poolside. I can’t say enough about this amazing hotel!

The one stop shop features was nice. Live jazz music in the bar/restaurant and arcade area, pool and hot tub with corn hole and snack bar. Beautiful environment and decor. Ilike that they bought out an old hotel and made it new from the inside out. Lovely!

Weather haha! it was freezing

Loved the vibe of this hotel. It was a perfect retreat from a long.road trip. Amenities were great. The sitting spaces throughout the hotel for having a chat and drink were fantastic. If you love something a bit different. With a cool vibe it's a great hotel, located right off of I 80. Very convenient. Had dinner there and it was fresh and delicious.
