The location is perfect! Its within walking distance to everything downtown and the river. The staff is friendly & the hotel itself is really nice. There is some available parking on the street. They have very comfortable mattresses & pillows so sleeping in a new place was easy. Will happily recommend & return for future stays.

The parking lot in the back is very tight & hard to maneuver in (with a large truck or suv it would be tricky, for sure!), breakfast could be better & the closet in my room was extremely small

Room was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. Nice variety for breakfast, very good. Staff were very pleasant, nice and made you feel comfortable. Great location, to all restaurants, shops water.

only 1 thing I did not care for was the set up of the bathroom. Sliding door had gap, did not securely shut and toilet was right there. The sink was so small and when you bent down to brush your teeth you almost bashed your head on counter above the sink.

The property was located really central which was easy to walk around. The rooms were very spacious and there was a coffee machine in the room. There was always loads of breakfast available and there was a nice mixture.

The bathroom was a bit dated and had a bit of mould in some corners near the shower. There’s also no lift so it was difficult getting heavy suitcases up the stairs. The property was nice but I do think it’s over priced.

We were greeted with a nice young man, I wish that I'd caught his name. As a hospitality worker (manager) there are two things that really set me off and they are; - You Guys - when greeting a group...especially when there are women present, better to greet with "folks"or "ladies and gentlemen"...only ladies.."ladies"....NEVER , EVER, greet a group with ladies present as "Guys" - No Problem- as a response when someone says Thank You. There are only two words for that exchange: Thank you & You're Welcome...NOT --No Problem!! The young man that we were welcomed with passed both of those. He was very polite , personable and helpful!!

We loved the spacious room we had! I loved the sliding barn door to the bathroom, which gave us more space to move around. The room was clean and the staff was friendly! We also had plenty of parking spaces and loved how close to downtown the Inn is located.

Not a concern of ours, but the stairs could deter other guests that have a hard time with mobility.

I have visited Newburyport for family visits for 28 yrs. My sister suggested Essex Inn... It WILL be our place to stay when we visit again. Great location, beautiful building, very comfy, Ask for room 330, its basically an apartment. Highly recommended.

Great location, next to State Street, with nice boutiques, shops and restaurants; 5 min walk from Waterfront Park. Really pleasant and clean rooms, but the thing that makes this a good place to stay is the staff. All of the people are incredibly helpful and generous with their time and advice. They went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Newburyport.

Parking lot is too small, but plenty of free street parking at night. Not a problem. Walking up 17 steps with luggage to get to 2nd floor was taxing. Request 1st floor if an issue. All else perfect.

I liked the location, The lady who checked me in was an absolute pleasure!!

I didn't like the fact that one of the cleaners ( I hope it was a cleaner) came into my room when I was in the bathroom. I called out several times, asking who it was, and they never answered. It creeped me out.

Our room was large, clean, and comfortable. The location is steps away from shops and restaurants. Good continental breakfast that provided bagels, english muffins, cereals, oatmeal, yogurt, muffins, coffee cake, juice, milk, and coffee.
