The room was huge - like the size of a one bedroom apartment. It was clean and breakfast was charming and well stocked. Staff was very kind, like they took a personal stake in making the hotel feel comfortable. As an aside, my birthday was the day I arrived to the hotel and my family had a surprise gift waiting for me in the room - and they recounted how helpful the hotel staff were to make the gift and surprise happen.

Just to be clear, the area that the hotel is in is a distressed urban neighborhood. Inside of the hotel is an oasis but folks expecting pristine surroundings may be surprised. Also, the weekend we were there, the closest subway was closed so getting around took longer than expected.

Hotel itself is excellent and very nicely kept with excellent staff. Value is also great for NYC and if not for the location we would stay here again!

Although we have often lived in NYC and try and visit every neighborhood and borough, this part of the Bronx has fallen on hard times, which unfortunately is very visible right at this hotel. Because of this, we would probably choose a hotel in a different location next time, despite the unbeatable value and great property and staff.

I truly enjoyed my stay. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about the property or my stay. I will definitely be a returning customer. Staff, room, housekeeping, accommodations, location cleanliness, everything perfect.

I have nothing negative to say about the property.

*Very helpful and friendly staff. At the front desk and during breakfast any issue or questions was dealt with immediately. Great staff makes this place standout !! *Spacious room , and great bed. *Very clean and well maintained hotel. *Location very close to subway station. *Great convenience store across the street.

*Breakfast area can feel a bit stuffy. The low ceiling and few windows and when some days air-conditioning was turned off it felt a bit tight. *Breakfast itself ... although there was enough to choose from , apart from boiled eggs choices were mainly sweet. No cheese or cold cuts. But it must be said that breakfast is not a complementary item. It's allways included and maybe therefore a bit on a budget. We brought our own cheese and salami 😉 *The hotel area can be a shock to some people as its not the most fancy. Streets are littered (although cleaned regularly) , and many homeless people. But we never felt unsafe and it's just a part of where real people live and has been no issue for us.

Hotel is very clean and comfortable and the staff are excellent. The place has a cool vibe and is very well maintained. Breakfast is included, and it was nice to have access to the tea and coffee 24/7. Our bed was extremely comfortable and the room was exceptionally quiet- our room was top floor at the back so I'm sure that helped with the noise. Bathroom was well equipped and the room felt spacious. I would recommend the hotel as a reasonably priced option if you don't mind a bit of a trek to get to lower Manhattan or midtown.

The location isn't going to work for everyone. There is a lot going on in the neighborhood, and the street community is active. It's also very dirty- tons of garbage floating around and on the sidewalk, and a wide variety of human beings involved in a range of activities that may not be what you were hoping for on your vacation. However, if you can get past that, the community is vibrant, and everyone we encountered was very friendly and just going about their day. We felt safe (husband and wife couple in our 50s) almost all of the time. The subway and busses are five minutes away, and it's about 35 minutes to midtown. Easy peasy. Breakfast options weren't the best at the hotel, but enough to get you started on your day. The staff worked hard to replenish and clean up.

The staff was very friendly and attentive. The facility was exceptionally clean and well taken care of. The history behind the Opera House was incredible and we loved all the old artwork hanging through the mezzanine and the rooms.

A slight safety issue we experienced was not having a privacy latch on the top of the door. The lock on the door unlocked with a turn of the handle from the inside and with a curious toddler we had to block the door with a stroller to keep him from opening the door and escaping down the hallway. We were very pleased with the coffee machine on the mezzanine but the complimentary breakfast was not what we thought it would be. As frequent travelers, we’ve had better complimentary breakfasts from cheaper hotels. Slight disappointment but easily overlooked and were pleased with and appreciative of the quality of the food provided.

Opera House Hotel is a lovely, clean hotel in south Bronx. It feels safe, has a lovely breakfast and the rooms and bathrooms were immaculate. This pillows were rather flat but that was the only complaint. While the hotel and the area in front of the hotel are clean and well maintained, the rest of the street/sidewalk in the area had a significant amount of litter and trash. That being said, we always felt very safe coming and going from the train to our hotel regardless of the time of day or night.

Better pillows!! They were really flat, we all had to fold them over in order to be comfortable. The microwave in our room would run, but did not heat up food. Rm 321.

The two men at the front desk that work the over night shift were awesome. I was nervous to leave my car parked on the street they called me as soon as a spot was available in the garage. They were really friendly and accommodating and very willing to help. I know one of them is named Jonathan, unfortunately I don’t remember the other man’s name but they were both awesome!

The neighborhood is horrible and sketchy as hell. The hotel should be in a better area too nice to be there.

Room was very clean and smelled good, and I was even able to get in early because Carlos was looking out for me. He came to find me upstairs in the dining area and graciously offered me early check-in, even waiving the fee, so I could work in comfort and peace in my room. The room was mostly quiet and very comfortable. We did hear some noisy..."activity" upstairs on the first night but we didn't mind much. It was nice to have a little breakfast as well. I also loved the old photos and the historical aspects.

We asked for extra towels at one point and didn't get them, and every time we called the front desk, we couldn't get through. The dining area was crowded and chaotic in the morning. The blow dryer sounded like it might explode (lol).
