Best Western Pony Soldier

Our stay at the Portland Best Western Pony Soldier Inn was enjoyable: the staff were personable and courteous; the room was spacious, sparkling clean, attractively appointed, with high quality bedding and thick towels; the entire facility was well-maintained and security -conscious (the doors to the lobby are locked in the evening); even the art on the walls (photographic prints) was a pleasant surprise. And the complimentary breakfast served in the cute little dining room was outstanding - with many options (biscuits and gravy! Waffles! Eggs, sausage links, cold/hot cereals! A plethora of juices, teas, etc!) and friendly staff replenishing platters and bowls as soon as they emptied. The pool and hot tub area, located in an enclosed inner courtyard, was pristine and absolutely beautiful, the concrete dotted with tubs of bright petunias and lush greenery. Staying here was an absolute pleasure!

My goal was to find a clean pool in the sun. Pool AND jacuzzi were very clean. Plenty of lounging spaces, towels readily available. I felt safe in my king size poolside room. Breakfast was great! Check in was better then expected.

Love/hate the front door had to be closed but badge access worked fine. Room was not vacuumed around garbage cans. There were no green chairs outside slider door but that was ok since I had quick access to pool chairs. I know I could have requested a cpl.

The airport shuttle was very convenient. The room was nice. There are a few things I noticed, The room wasn't vacuumed. The bathroom was for a disabled persons with wheelchair accommodations. I am not disabled. The shower was open to the floor and water spilled out all over the floor. The pillows were like the size of throw pillows and neck breakers ..too high to lay your head on. Flatter pillows and would be nice. The breakfast was really good!

This Best Western was a pleasant surprise - excellent value for money in my book because of the location. There are several eating options nearby. It is close to the airport but you can't hear the planes and the rooms facing the pool (at least in winter) were very quiet. Clean, very helpful and friendly staff, and - a rarity in covid-times - a decent warm, eggy breakfast, not just muffins and coffee. I personally liked the fact that security is a priority. Only guests have key cards and the entries are locked. All in all a nice weekend stay, for us to rest up before a long international flight. If visiting Portland and surrounds, it is helpful to know that a highway interchange is also near by, so you can drive anywhere with ease.

My gripe is the usual, that the heater clanks. The towels were fairly thin. For a hotel in this category not the best calling card. Generous 4 pillows per bed, but all of them overstuffed, i.e. no choice and I had to sleep without one at all. But the mattress, sheets and everything else were fine, and I can still recommend Pony Soldier!

Lovely big room and comfy bed. Clean facilities. Climate control was good and window opened, which was a bonus. Fridge didn't have a frozen compartment so I had to get ice to keep things really cold. Breakfast was standard fare. Nice staff and dog friendly (although there was no dog area).

I messaged the hotel directly and I was told there was a "$30 pet fee plus $100 deposit". But it turned out it was $34.95 per night -- which was a lot. Sketchy characters in the neighborhood, so park in front for safety at night.

The hotel was clean and had all the essentials. I was surprised at the offerings for the continental breakfast—hot items such as omelets, sausages, bacon, and oatmeal were available. There were plenty of outlets in the room as well as a microwave and fridge. We were only in the area for 2 nights so being an easy 10 minute drive from the airport was awesome.

The hotel is right next to a freeway exit/entrance so there was a lot of noise at night. To me this wasn’t a huge issue since I use a white noise app anyway, but may be an issue to others who require complete silence to sleep.

this is a super clean hotel the value is past the value it’s heaven breakfast on my Christmas you talk about the Luxe you got the books swimming pool past perfect it is perfect this is Heaven times 2000

The bed was very comfortable, and the room was very clean. Water pressure was outstanding in the hand basin and the shower. Room heater operated very quietly. The room was sufficiently spacious and well-equipped. I was pleasantly surprised not to be bothered by aircraft noise from the adjacent airport. Location was super-convenient for nearby freeways and highways.

The knob to operate the shower was so hard to pull on that I had to enlist my husband's muscle to get it going. The power socket for the in-room coffee maker was not convenient to access, and without on-site coffee availability for breakfast, the supply of coffee in the room was inadequate for a good morning jolt of caffeine for two. The "grab and go" breakfasts were adequate, and hopefully will be phased out soon as COVID restrictions are eased. If the restaurant next door can be open for breakfast, surely Best Western can't be far behind.

The beds were wonderful. The room size was spacious! The staff was super friendly. There was breakfast in a bag which was overflowing.

I was very worried about potential thefts/breaking in to my car- the staff strongly warned us about this. I think it would be prudent for the hotel to hire security to alleviate these chances. It was due to the homeless problem around the hotel. If I had known, I don’t think I would have stayed there. Additionally, it would’ve been nice to have more protein-based items in the breakfast bag.

it was very quiet..and the room temp. was great..someone had left the balcony door open prior to our visit and it smelled great in the room and the temp was perfect..

a pizza box had been left on top of the garbage outside..a young man obviously alittle out of sorts pushed it off in order to use the top for his smoking..it was left on the ground for the duration of our stay..3:47 in the morning someone was shuffling up and down the outside hallway,,alittle weird...the homeless down the on ramp to the interstate to the airport seem to be moving in a little closer than the time before..
