The Glenferrie Hotel Hawthorn

This hotel was great - could not fault the cleanliness. The room was very spacious with beautiful high ceilings, king bed, couch, bar fridge, desk, large wardrobe and beautiful traditional furnishings. The bathroom was also very spacious with large spa bath. All amenities are provided to make your stay comfortable. The hotel has great food (for lunch and dinner) and great beer coupled with great ambience. The location was also good - lots within walking distance and very central. Also really appreciated the free parking. This hotel was really fantastic value for money and we will definitely be staying here again as opposed to overpriced motels/apartments in Melbourne.

Parking was a tight squeeze - might be a bit of an issue for anyone with a large car but we are not complaining as it was free which is rare in Melbourne today. Make sure you bring USB wall charger.

The old-style King-sized room was very quiet, despite being on a busy street. Modern amenities were great. It was spacious and very clean with a large spa bath and a huge shower rose over the bath. Parking was available behind the hotel, but not secure, so park at your own risk. Hotel is right next door to a great coffee-roasting shop which serves delicious breakfasts. Walking distance to Hawthorn shops and station.

The reception, although advertised as being open 10am-10pm, was not open at 4pm. It would have been helpful to have had a sign advising us to see someone at the hotel bar for check-in, which we eventually discovered by ourselves, so it only delayed us by 10mins. There is a lot of hallway light that shines under the room’s door (#10) so we had to roll towels at the bottom of the door to block out light. Maybe a door seal could be added or a door snake supplied.

Our stay was so restful, we did not hear a sound from any of the other rooms. We occasionally heard pub patrons at night but there was no noise late at night at all. Loved the spa bath, loved the fabulous shower and water pressure, loved the firm mattress, loved the location to other eateries in the area, loved access to the streaming service, we chose Stan and watched some great movies. What a fabulous short break, it was a mini holiday. We will definitely come back again.

Just a couple of things: We would have liked more bench space in the bathroom. We didn’t have enough room on the little ledge to put all our toiletries. Perhaps some shelving on the wall could help with this. Also, we had a small roll of toilet paper that was nearly finished and no extras. We went and bought our own toilet paper. Lastly, we would have loved firmer choices of pillows. The ones provided were too soft but we made do.

The room and bathroom was spacious and nicely furnished and decorated. The staff were exceptionally helpful and courteous. Though oddly when we arrived, someone who turned out to be staff sat eating his lunch at the top of the steps so we had to manouuvre around him with our bags.

The pub downstairs only catered for dinners. It didn't cater for snacks such as toasted sandwiches, veggie burgers, spring rolls or whatever. We had to go outside to find food on arrival. There were a couple of small maintenance issues with bathroom such as the door handle kept falling off and the toilet flushing mechanism needs fixing.

There is so much to like about The Glenferrie Hotel! The staff were all extremely obliging. The room, on the second floor, was gorgeous, and spotless. The live music was barely audible, and didn’t disturb us. The room also had plenty of conveniently located power points. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was excellent. My husband loved the bath. I loved the historic building and old world ambience. The hotel is very conveniently located, close to trams and trains, and a good range of shops and cafes. From my conversation with other guests at Reception, who have stayed many times, it is clear that the hotel is a favourite for many. We had a fantastic stay. It is excellent value, and I will unequivocally choose to stay here again on my next trip to Melbourne. William’s wife.

We had trouble getting the air conditioner to work (for heating), but in the end, didn’t need it anyway. The room staff and reception were onto the problem promptly, and were all very helpful.

The histroy of the building can be felt during your stay and the photos on the hall walls and in room reinforce this with great images of trams, local landmarks and the building itself from the 1920's and 30. comfortable large room with good light.

room service did visit the room and put in new towels however didnt empty bins, vaccum or replace tea and coffee - this is only a small thing and really this was a great place to stay. I am back again next weekend.

Excellent value for money. the Glenferrie is a beautiful old pub, conveniently located close to public transport (train & tram). The staff were very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. The room was spacious, well appointed and very comfortable and quiet. One of the best showers I’ve had. A huge rain head with fantastic pressure. We didn’t get to eat in the hotel as we were in Melbourne for the GF, but we had a drink before leaving, in the very pleasant covered outdoor area. Our only regret is we couldn’t stay longer.

didn’t bother us at all, but if it’s a problem there’s no lifts to the rooms. There’s a few flights of stairs.

The room was spotless, much larger than I expected with a very comfy bed a nice leather couch a desk to work on a large bathroom with a spa bath. Access to the bar for a cooling drink and very friendly staff.

Not a complaint but I parked at the rear and walked around to the front of the building (probably could use the exercise) as I didn't know there was a ramp to the rear access. A sign wouldn't hurt.

Cafe right next door that we had our best breakfast ever at, the pub downstairs is incredible and the menu looks fantastic, the room was comfortable - clean and great pressure in the shower. We travelled for an event but will definitely be returning just to stay here and go to the pub for tea and drinks

Not really anything that could have been improved

Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean. I enjoyed the location as it is very close to the main shopping area of Hawthorne and within walking distance of the river which was handy as we were there to attend the Head of the Yarra race.

There was a rather loud birthday party on the Friday night, however once we closed the window and put the aircon on it was not an issue.
