Van der Valk Hotel Mechelen

This hotel is set in a historical building and they have designed a beautiful hotel around all of it’s exquisite features. The staff are sublime, welcoming, efficient and they really care. The food is exceptional, I had the Tuna Nicoise salad and it was the yummiest I’ve ever had! The rooms are chic and spotless, the beds are beyond comfy and I really did not want to leave.

The shower is temperamental. One second mild to warm, then so hot it could scald.

Beautiful interior of whole hotel, high-ceiling room, design-oriented bathroom with very strong shower, friendly polite staff, excellent breakfast.

Bed. 2 extremely soft separate mattresses which were almost “touching floor” when you try to even sit on it. We had a feeling that the topper is missing. It was not a comfortable sleep because 2 people roll into the middle or it was difficult to turn on side because sinking deep in. And we both of 70 kg and 85 kg of weight respectively.

The hotel is in old building, beautifully renovated! The room was big, nicely decorated with a lot of light and a nice view to the water. Walking distance to the center, maybe 10-15 minutes. The parking is just 2 minutes walk from the hotel, very conveniently located. I would recommend the hotel and for sure if during my travels I will find somewhere else a hotel from this chain, for sure I will choose it.

Great location in Mechelen! The spot is cool, also appreciated by locals. There are lively spots all across the ground floor: terrace when the weather permits, restaurant, bar, welcome hall. Great place in Mechelen!

The language skills are so-so among the staff. I am not fluent in Flemish and staff is hardly fluent in anything but Flemish. Valk should offer training to its staff to improve their language skills as it comes across like "you are a foreigner" and "we are not".

Lovely hotel, very clean, comfortable room. Easy access to modern multi story car park which is beside the hotel. I had a fantastic sleep due to very comfy beds. Lots of choice at breakfast and food was good.

Pillows! I have never seen such small pillows on a bed, they are square like you would have on a sofa not a bed woke me up, rolling off them, which is such a shame as the rooms and finish are great

Breakfast buffet was very elaborate, nice choice of bread and supplements. Room at the interior with nice view on the old swimming pool. Hotel is well situated next to the old town.

Buffet could use a few more coffee machines, long queue to get one cup of coffee. Buffet not really Corona proof, too many people. Regarding the room, we would appreciate a bit more soap and shampoo. Shower needs door or curtain. Hotel needs private parking, got a fine for wrong parking around the building.

we didn't take the breakfast option which was a bit expensive-16 euros. Location not central, but easily walkable. Hotel and room very quiet. Excellent bar-very comfortable and clean Very good service. Room was comfortable and cleanWe had one meal in the restaurant which was good and reasonable.

There were no curtains in the bathroom and since there is no door between bathrooms and bedroom, the early summer daylight was shining on the bed in full as of 6am. (room 174). Very disturbing.

Considering we were during corona times, I believe the Hotel, which was mostly empty tried its best to keep us satisfied. Food had to be delivered to the room and the staff was very efficient, even if it was clear the hotel was operating on skeleton staff. But apart from the corona stuff, the hotel is great, very stylish, modern and comfortable. The rooms are well sized (although I have been in Van der Valks with bigger rooms) and the bathroom was comfortable and very stylish. The corridors - I loved the corridors with their mix of modern and rustic, red brick wall on one side, gypsum on the other and very beautiful carpets. (Also, we could log in on our google play and download Disney+ - our son appreciated)

Not much I dare say. The hotel was operating on skeleton staff and they did their utmost to keep the hotel going at its best. These are tough times for everyone. I would not complain about a thing. Thank you for the wonderful stay.
