Domaine Gaogaia

This was a little slice of heaven just outside of busy Aix. We felt like we were in the country, but the city is only a 10-15 minute drive. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are quite big, with spacious modern bathrooms. Bed and pillows were comfortable for me, but the bed was too hard for my sister. The grounds are lush and gorgeous, with views of the rolling hills. We enjoyed the breakfast, although it was quite simple. Dinner at the restaurant was good, but on the pricier side compared to other places we ate. We loved sitting outside on the couches and enjoying some wine or a cocktail. Overall, a great stay and a great price.

The room was good and shower was excellent. Located close to town by car. Staff very polite and helpful. Adjoining restaurant was excellent. Swimming pool loungers were readily available when needed.

Parking was tricky, plenty of slots but the car parks were small and difficult to navigate. Also it could be clearer about how and when you need to book space at the bar for drinks as we tried a couple of times to go for drinks but they were fully booked. Pool location is not very private so close to the adjoining restaraunt.

A beautiful, old Provençal house, set in lovely gardens, with spacious public areas, with soft-seating areas and a fireplace in the bar room (but, inevitably, this was pretty much taken over by the World Cup match on an inflatable screen...), and a good restaurant with an interesting, local-vore menu and regional-heavy wine list. Our ground-floor room was quiet but smaller than some, although the beds were comfortable and we had direct access to a shared terrace area. The bathroom was, again, on the small side, with a step-up shower with curtain rather than screen, and a very high toilet (despite not being really disabled-accessible). We had a pretty good dinner in the restaurant, although the apéritifs and wines (by the glass) were far more expensive than expected and one of our main courses (we eat slowly, but had warned about this) was on the overcooked side. Breakfast was fine, too, albeit not amazing, although the bread was fresh and the coffee very good.

To be honest, we didn't quite know what to make of Domaine Gaogaia... While the hotel looked great, the staff were very friendly, and the restaurant menu sounded really appetising, we were left feeling a little underwhelmed by the whole experience. I guess we felt there was something missing, which is hard to put your finger on, but perhaps a touch more personal attention, a soupçon more attention to detail, and un petit peu more of that indefinable sensation that makes a hotel truly special could transform this from a good place into a genuinely great one...

It is a beautiful hotel in a traditional Provençal house. The staff was very nice and helpful. The owners were extremely kind and welcoming. I am a picky eater and I found the food to be very good and fresh. I wish I could have stayed longer.

It is ideal for people traveling with a car. It is very close to town, like 10 minutes away, but if you are not driving the best other option is Uber.

Restaurant exceeded expectations. Dinner very very good. Waiters helpful, cheery and polite. Breakfast next morning good too. Nice setting and surroundings

Our room. We apparently got the last room available. Bed on a mezzanine .A shelf on far side of bed , nothing on near side except staircase not very far from the side of the bed. Need to be quite agile and slim if sleeping on far side of bed ! squeeze round the side or climb over. Quite dark room. Avoid if possible. Did not know we were going to get that room when booking.

The hotel was a comfortable stay in the quiet surroundings of Aix-en-Provence but never felt difficult to get to or from. The staff was very nice and helpful of any requests we had and always had a smile on their faces. The restaurant also served a nice breakfast and delicious dinner.

Some items normally available in hotels were not available such as an iron and hangers.

Beautiful location and beautiful facilities. The whole set up is great and is so nicely decorated. The bed was very comfy and breakfast in the garden was great with the views.

The dinner menu is very limited to 3 options- 2 meat and 1 vegetarian, also it is quite expensive food. We did not eat dinner as the options were not suitable for us which is a shame. More diverse options would have been good!

Such a wonderful ambience in the hotel. It’s not the most snazzy (but by no means bad) but everything about it is chilled and welcoming and the garden, bar, restaurant and pool area is such a wonderful place to chill out - especially under the lights in the evening. Will definitely stay again.

The room is relatively simple but functional.

Very nice big room with large bed and large bathroom, with design bath (unpractible) and separate toilet. The dier in the garden was romantic and good. But the breakfast was disaster and total chaos. Personal/waiters looked students with no interest or knowledge how to do their job. We canceled 2e day breakfast. ( we hope to get back the money). The garden with enormous swimming pool with relax beds was fantastic. We feeled us in Toscany. 6 km from town, but in morning/evening traffic enormous traffic jam on the autoroute to and from town. visit Hôtel Caumont in Aix!!!

Hotel grounds and its charm. Also, thumbs up for the friendly welcome! We have really appreciated the relaxed atmosphere and delicious food at dinner.

Breakfast was basic and there were no user instructions for the egg boiler (time, temperature, etc.). Also, we wanted to spend one morning by the pool and though it should have been open by 8 a.m., access was still prohibited at. 9.30 a.m. due to maintenance works.
