Poppies Bali

Booked 2 nights here after finishing a 10 day tour of Bali and Poppies is hands down the best place I stayed during my trip. Absolutely loved my time here! Super quiet despite the location - location is very handy, close to shops and restaurants if you do want to venture out. Has a nice, relaxing pool area, lovely cottages and bathrooms, the rooms have everything you need. Can have breakfast and dinner delivered to your cottage. Fantastic gardens that are kept neat everyday and amazing ponds and water features dotted around. Super friendly staff who are willing to help with anything 🙂

I didn’t have a fridge in my room - not a major issue and would have queried had I been staying longer.

Poppies still retains the charm of Bali. Beautiful thatched bungalows scattered through tropical gardens with a large pool and Poppies Restaurant only a 1 minute walk away. The room was cool, clean and today and had a wonderful indoor/outdoor bathroom which we really liked. The staff are very friendly and helpful and go out of their way to help.

The guests next to our bungalow decided to let their unruly 4 year old scream outside into the wee hours of the morning until we paid them a visit and asked them to keep the noise down. Not Poppies fault but the only negative of our stay here.

I always write elaborate reviews with facts, what went well and what can be improved Facts 1. The hotel is located at the east end of Jalan Poppies - I almost touching Jalan Legian. For those who are new, Jalan Poppies is an extremely narrow lane with just enough space for only one vehicle in any direction. This means that if you have to hail a ride, you'll have to walk down to the main road 2. It's a good 10 min walk from Jalan Pantai Kuta - the main road along the Kuta beach. This would mean that every time one wants to go to the beach, it's a good walk 3. The hotel has stand alone cottages (around 15) comprising of one room with a big semi open toilet and a bath area. There is a small nice verandah along each cottage. The entire property has a serene resort feel 4. The hotel has a mineral water dispenser for the guests to refill their flasks provided in the room. Guests who are very picky, would have to arrange their own bottled water either from the hotel room service or from a nearby mart 5. There are a couple of laundries available in the vicinity. I tried the one who had their own washing machines and dryers inside the shophouse over the ones closer to the hotel which would take your clothes to their home (didn't want to take a chance) 6. There are a couple of mini marts nearby which can provide your stocks of beers 7. Poppies restaurant is just a minute stroll from the Hotel - again an open environment What went well 1. Airport Transfers - My booking was inclusive of airport transfers which was very helpful. Though a print transfer costs approx 10-15 USD each way only, I didn't have to worry at all 2. Rooms were very clean 3. Beds were extremely comfortable. We had an extra bed for my teenage daughter which was also great 4. We had the choice of our breakfast being served in the room. It was a great feel to have your breakfast amidst the natural surroundings 5. They have some of their socket outlets to UK which came in handy

To be fair, these are some points the property can consider to change - not that I did not like them 1. Breakfast options are limited. The hotel should consider to increase the options 2. Room service is available only till 11PM. Too bad if you are suddenly hungry late at night 3. The tour rates are on the higher side. One can get private taxis at a lower rate inside the lane only 4. We had our dinner on day-1 - found nothing to boast off for the price we paid

Check-in was seamless (except that WE had left our passports in the previous villa, an hour away, so we filled in all the details, left our luggage with them as we were early, then went for a walk while we waited for our driver to go back and get our passports). The staff are warm, helpful, and courteous. The bungalows are spacious (not a criticism, just an observation, but they are a little dark, only because of the French Colonial design using smaller windows. We found it extremely quaint and authentic). We couldn't work out how to connect to our room's internet via the tv, but we just got it via the garden wifi code. The separate bathroom is semi-enclosed but once again, authentic and very Balinese. The hot/cold water is a little touchy, and those with mobility issues may need to consider the steps into the sunken shower. The pool and surrounding area is lush and inviting. Poppies Lane 1 is very central, within walking distance of Kuta Beach. Poppies Restaurant is opposite the hotel and serves breakfast (included in your stay) or can be delivered to your bungalow. We ate a couple of times here for dinner and the food was delicious. Service is a little slow when busy though, but we're on holiday so not in any rush. All in all, a quiet, heavenly oasis right in the heart of the hustle and bustle of Kuta.

A tranquil oasis in the middle of Kuta exactly as others had described.

We had cottage 28 directly next to the laneway so a bit of noise. Request a cottage away from the road.

- Delicious breakfast, which you can take with room service to the bungalow or at the gorgeous restaurant. - very charming bungalow, with traditional style sculptures, comfortable bed and gorgeous open bathroom. - amazing garden and swimming pool, lots of nature, plants, animals, fruits, carps, sculptures - very quiet place, silence at night - smiling and caring staff, always available to help - our flight leaving Bali was in the evening, they not only kept our luggage safe, but also allowed us to continue to enjoy the swimming pool and take a shower and provided free shuttle to the airport, at no extra charge

The garden and the outside space were clean. The plants and flowers in the garden were well taken care of, and the grass was well manicured. Their staff were very courteous and welcoming. They have a mini library, and they also left some bananas outside our room. Even if there were so many plants surrounding the huts, there weren't any mosquitoes.

The location is along a narrow alley. The bathroom tiles had some black mold along the grout lines. The room had that strong old musty wood smell, and the furniture was quite dusty. When we arrived, the TV didn't turn on, but the staff replaced it the next day.

Location and restaurant was perfect.My Wife Petra and Myself Peter could not fault this amazing private and quiet paradise that is Poppies 1 Cottages.A little gem hidden behind a high stone fence and all rooms separated by lovely tropical gardens.Amazing pool and Spa which is crystal clear and excellent service if you would like a drink or some food as you laze beside the pool.Could not fault our room as everything in this resort is maintained to the highest level.Plus free Airport transfere to and from with their lovely driver Gede.All of your staff are a credit to this establishment and only add to the great hassle free environment for all to enjoy.You can also book tours useing one of Poppies drivers.So all in all a 10 out of 10 experience of which we will be repeating as is our new must stay destination in Bali.Give it a try, you will become a Poppies regular just like the majority of the guests who you strike up a conversation with in this totally relaxed atmosphere.

There was nothing we could fault.

Beautiful hotel set in lovely grounds. The bungalows are spacious and inviting with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The driver Gede was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Made ensured every visit to the pool was a pleasant experience, assisting with towels and umbrella always with a smile on his face. Along with all the other staff, they are an asset to Poppies. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful, which you could either have delivered to your room or eat at Poppies Restaurant, a 2 min walk up the road. The restaurant is also great for lunch and dinner - well priced, delicious and attractive dishes are available. I would thoroughly recommend Poppies and look forward to returning 😊

Nothing negative to say.

The place was very quiet and peaceful despite of being in the middle of the city. During our stay, the only place that you will see the other guests was either in the reception area or pool. Most of the guest were old couple who love to read books beside the pool. Plants and trees were everywhere. Seeing those greenery will ease all your stress. I also love their restroom! There was an open space in the roof wherein fresh air are coming. The design was very unique and rare. Foods were delicious especially the desserts. Cottages were fabulous and classy. Its an old design but well maintained. You can also smoke anywhere except in your room. Overall, it was very relaxing and calming.

Plugs. We did not know that Bali had the circle plugs everywhere. Nonetheless, everything was perfect!
