GLOU Higashi Shinjuku

We enjoyed the homely feel of the hotel as well as the rooms, which were clean and organized. It was pleasant to have have a room on two levels, which allowed for more luggage and liveable space. The hotel stuff was amazingly kind and helpful, which made the experience the better.

The air around the bed, which is located in the mezzanine, is way hotter than the air downstairs, which forced us to leave the A/C to full blast to have an enjoyable room temperature. The room view was not great, since it was on a side road with a bunch of electrical cable outside the window, but in Japan we have had way worse views.

I stayed at this hotel for about two weeks in total and it was amazing. I stayed one week, then I was away for another place for one week, and then I came back here and stayed another week. The staff was kind enough to keep my luggage while I was away for one week, and knowing that I stay longer, the second standard room was bigger than the first one. I really appreciated the consideration, because I had so many stuff with me during my stay in Tokyo. The room was cleaned and new towels and coffee/tea were provided every day, which is not usual for this kind of reasonable accommodation.

Nothing special

The staff was very friendly and the facilities were way to use. In general it was just super convenient and not too far from the subway depending on the line you‘d liked to take. The price was fair for the room and it was quite uncomplicated to checkin and checkout.

Unfortunately, the airconditioning was quite strong and we were only able to adapt the temperature and it was bothering us a bit. Furthermore, the towels, cups and teas that got switched for the first couple of days, weren‘t switched anymore. It wasn’t bothersome but still worth mentioning, however, those were only little things that didn‘t disturb us too much and overall it was a convenient and nice stay.

Brilliant, friendly staff that go out of their way to help you and make you feel so welcome. The room really exceeded our expectations, it was compact but really had everything you needed and the split level and high ceilings made it feel more spacious. Nice and bright and well equipped. Location near subway and buses and price really reasonable for Tokyo!

The ladder to get up to the bed was quite steep, railings made it feel safe, but may be something to note if you struggle with mobility. Would also be useful to have more than one washing machine.

Friendly and courteous staff, and a very quaint stay. Very clean and quite quiet for how small the rooms were. I visited for nearly a week and don't regret it in the slightest!

A bit of a walk from the main Shinjuku station. The Tokyo metro is enough of a nightmare labrynth that it's not worth figuring out the proper routing from the station it is close to, unless you have time, experience, or are feeling really adventurous. The back streets are also slightly sketchy. They're the only place I saw a sign warning of crime in the area.

The staff was incredibly nice and helpful, the rooms perfectly clean, the interior was perfect for the small space and the location of the hotel was perfect! Over all great value for your money and 100% would stay here again.

On our last night the upstairs bed got a bit stuffy. Not sure if it's been the slightly warmer temperature or something else, but we simply slept with the window open and it wasn't an issue anymore. (The room had AC as well, but we didn't use it). No Japanese toilet, but you'll get the bidet-experience in so many other places around town it doesn't really matter.

Very cleverly designed room which made it feel a lot more spacious than it is, with having the bed upstairs. Comfy bed. Staff were very helpful and friendly and helped us check in after hours with no fuss at all. Loved the sweet treats on arrival. Room had everything we needed including some nice robes. Very close to the public transport. Really enjoyed our stay.

The bathroom was quite small but it was functional. It would be good to advertise the laundry room opening times for information.

Very convenient location. Not on major roads but very close to public transportation. Very clean room, helpful staff. The accommodation is good also for somewhat extended stays (mine was 8 nights).

The size of bathroom is OK, but minimal. My room had a loft bed, which makes everything more spacious, but climbing on it may not be easy for everybody.

Good location as it is very close to the Higashi Shinjuku station, which isn’t a major station but at least we could easily navigate to the main ones The communication from the staff was superb, and they willingly stored my luggage overnight at last minute notice and were willing to accommodate me for another unplanned night’s stay

The second time we stayed, the room was extremely small, especially for a couple, but I was warned about this, as this was the only room available at short notice

The location was slightly tricky but once we had our bearings we were right. Close to a variety of food options. Not too far from transport depending on the line you needed. The staff were delightful and friendly. Internet was consistent.

The room was just so very small for two people. It always had a damp smell every time we returned because wet towels in a small room just don’t dry enough to keep the smell away. Probably a lack of fresh air.
