Shortland Budget Accommodation

If you're after a no fuss place to rest your head then you can't find a better place to stay in Newcastle. The check in is a breeze as Sam and the rest of the staff are super nice and easy to work with. The rooms (though basic) are a 10/10 for cleanliness, comfort and have everything you need. There's free parking on site (huge carpark). The wifi is free (no password required) there's air-conditioning, bar fridge kettle and TV in your room (microwave and toaster are available in the communal kitchen) I've been staying in one of the single shared bathroom for nearly 3 weeks and in all that time I've only ever seen another person in the bathroom three times since being here. The bed is really comfortable and even the single bed has 2 fluffy pillows. I can't recommend this place highly enough

The self locking doors. REMEMBER to always have the key on your person so you're not locked out topless at 130am (so my fault not theirs)

I had a very large room which was very comfortable, The bed was very comfortable as well. Having a restaurant on site was very convenient.

The shower taps in the bathroom are in the wrong order, They need to put a red mark on the hot taps, as the standard hot tap position is on the left. A person using the shower before me only wet himself and turned it off to suds up. Then turned on again to rinse. I can only assume he thought there was no hot water. I had a large room but the tv was too small for how far away you were from it .

The staff were honestly so amazing! Have never come across such friendly staff like this. Made me feel safe when I was travelling as a woman. The meal at the hotel was really good as well, best chips! They know how to pour a beer which is awesome! The room was as expected, budget style but TV and air con worked well and shower had good pressure! Bed was quite comfortable. Perfect for a stop over or just wanting a bed and roof over your head.

The food here is fantastic. The pizzas are all homemade and the Green Godess Salad the best I’ve had as the verges were perfectly cooked, the dressing was tasty and the surprise of the caramelised nuts went really well. Great having the big screen for the match. The staff looked after us really well.

Maybe it’s time to renovate the bathrooms.

My Queen room with private bathroom was good - bed comfortable, bathroom and room clean - all just a little dated. The staff and hotel facilities made it really good. Staff were so friendly (and Newcastle people generally) and helpful. Having a bistro on site that served fantastic food at such a good price meant we didn't have to walk or get a taxi anywhere for food or drinks. When not practical to have a rental car you can feel somewhat stranded at your accommodation. Also, being smokers, it made a nice change having an outside beergarden where we could smoke and drink while not feeling like social pariahs. My husband had a double room with private bathroom which smelt a bit musty / mouldy and you could feel the springs in his mattress. Totally different feel to mine, but both rooms were clean.

You pay for what you get, really comfy beds, staff were really nice and there was plenty of parking

The rooms don't have an extra lock on the inside of the door so as a lone female traveller I felt a bit unsafe but I did get over it

I loved the staff at the bar. The blonde girl was very chatty and wanted to know about all of my travelling adventures! The man who took my money was also very polite and helpful! I loved the room itself, and was spotless and cosy. The air con was very cold as well. The TV was a bit small, but what do you expect for a single room? I also loved the free WiFi and the bar fridge!

I liked the location and parking facilities for my car, but I think it's located too far away from the station. If you don't know the Callaghan University well, you wouldn't know how to get to the motel from Warabrook Station.

Location for current work. Locality to petrol and food. Close to shopping centre.

Smokers at front door from 5am in the morning.

This establishment is everything the name promises. I was on an incredible journey from check in to check out. The lack of signage and zero external lighting made my arrival a total surprise and confirming the location was the first step towards a night of excitement. You’ll find it’s the large brick standalone building out the back of the pub, don’t be deterred by the appearance, this is a hidden gem. Once you’ve parked you’ll check in at the bar, in the pub. You’ll then be ushered into the adjoining bottleshop to be inspected by the manager before being given the key to your room and provided no further instructions or directions. You’ll be told at least twice that if you trash the room, you’ll be charged for it. Ugh, I’m over it. Private rooms are minimalist but fine, the rest is single person room hostel styled accommodation, shared kitchen and bathroom with all the associated hijinks. Enjoy! Would stay again, did bring all my belongings into the room with me.

Not a thing, wouldn’t have changed anything at all. Perfect experience.

Room was beautiful and clean. Sheets and towels were perfect. Staff were lovely.

The (internal) bottom of the kettle was covered in black sludge. I removed the sludge, but couldn’t remove the dark residue. I still went ahead and had a cuppa…it tasted fine.
