First Hotel Grand

We are an old couple of over 70 years old, and we are taking a long trip with 4 pieces of luggage. We are staying in the First Hotel Grand for 3 nights. We are so happy and lucky to meet smiling and helpful Matilde in the reception. She has tried her very best to show the First Hotel Grand’s first class of warm hospitality! Not only she kindly and thoughtfully helped us with the room, but also with the parking in the rain. She even kindly offered her help for our heavy luggage. Our special and sincere thanks go to Matilde and also to Stefania who has also warmly helped us for other things. Both of them really make us happy customers of the hotel. We also deeply appreciate Ms. Mette K.-Hafstrøm,Hotel and reception Manager for her very motivated and helpful reception, breakfast and housekeeping teams!

This is a charming hotel located in the historic part of town. There are many restaurants and shopping within walking distance as the hotel sits on one of the pedestrian only streets. They have a fantastic little bar with top notch staff and signature drinks. You’ll be surprised at the number of choices for scotch, whiskey, gin, rum, and vodka. If you’re a connoisseur, you should be satisfied with the selection. The free breakfast is the best I’ve ever seen, with a wide variety of choices for my entire family which includes vegetarian and carnivores.

My only request would be to have a firmer mattress, but that’s a personal preference rather than a shortcoming of the property.

The hotel’s location was quite central, about an 8-10 minute walk from the train station, and 5 minutes from the charming main pedestrian street, and the center of Odense with many of the city’s attractions. My hotel room was very large, elegant, pleasant and full of “old world charm”. There were two large, comfortable arm chairs in the den/sitting area. The bed was great and easy to sleep in. The breakfast room was gorgeous and extraordinarily beautiful to look at and be in. The breakfast itself was full of choice, and the staff was very kind, helpful, and eager to do anything for the hotel guests.

My room faced the inner courtyard, but was full of scaffolding, so I had no view. The room did not have a full-length mirror, which I missed. Also, the lighting in the room was quite dim, and rather inadequate and insufficient. But overall, the hotel was extraordinary, the location was central, and breakfast was plentiful.

beautiful building, amazing location about 2 minutes walk from the main shopping street and restaurants. the beds was very comfortable and I was given an extra pillow straight away when I asked. everything was perfectly clean and tidy. there was a good hair dryer provided which is rare (usually get a useless hairdryer!). I parked right outside and because it was a weekend/holiday the parking was free. not sure if there is a car park? the elevator was a little scary but worked well! the stairs are very grand and fancy. breakfast was amazing, so much choice - cooked bacon, sausage, eggs, baked beans, breakfast cereals, fruits, yoghurt, cold meats and smoked salmon, pancakes. loads of juices, smoothies and tea and coffee.

the floor my room was on (3rd) has some peeling paint and is quite dark. the bedroom could also do with a fresh paint, it was also quite dark. these things didn’t really impact my stay.

Beautiful hotel in a historical building. The breakfast at the restaurant was fantastic - great variety of delicious foods, high quality coffee drinks and the most impressive of all, the room itself. (The only thing that didn't fit in that classy historical restaurant was...some guests wearing their flipflops 😆 )

The only inconvinient thing we experienced was the stairs at the entrance and at the floor where we lived. We were with a babystroller, so it was impossible for 1 person to carry it on the stairs.

Great authentic decor with some fantastic original pieces all over the hotel. The record players in the bathrooms were beautiful. Rooms were spacious, with a fridge and coffee machine. Actually had a bath in Denmark!!! Friendly staff. Good stuff in room like bathroom extras and mini bar, all complimentary. No air con but they provided fans in all the rooms because it was so hot.

Not much options for vegan breakfast, baked beans on dry bread and some cereal, fruit and salad.

Nice location in the very centre of Odense, very close to attractions, services and shopping. Great breakfast, in a very elegant area of the hotel. Rooms are modern and well-furnished, comfortable and equipped with amenities.

The weather was really hot, there was no airco in the room but just a fan that was not enough to refresh. In addition to this, I closed all the curtain every day to avoid sun in the room, but the chambermaid opened it every day making the room become hotter. Very noisy in the night especially in the week-end because really central and near to bar and pubs.

Worldclass Breakfast & perfect Location and clean.

The Single-Room is that small that you barely find a space to put your luggage. Also no closet to put your stuff (there is the desk, where there is space to put something but due to the closeness to the bed its not practical (see photos) also at night there was a disturbing humming... i dont know if it was the ventilation or washing machines or something else

The location was great. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast and service in the restaurant was great. The bed was comfortable.

There was no ventilation in the bathroom so it steamed up quite quickly after a shower. The safe should be moved up to shelves further up. (No-one wants to get down to the floor to put things in it.) The hotel corridors could have been a bit more cheerful with pictures and plants.

Location could not be more in the middle of the city. Excellent location!. There was free public parking not that far from the hotel. The staff was very friendly and it was a very nice hotel that even though it was kept classic it didn't feel worn out. Excellent breakfast but things ran out a bit to fast. We came 1 hour after it opened. It was not very crowded and the staff was very helpful and friendly.

It was a shame that alot of the warm dishes were already gone 1 hour after. It took a while to be filled up. Everything was very clean but the bathroom did feel a bit to old.
