Moustache Hostel Varanasi

Nestled in the heart of Banaras, the Mustache Hostel stands as a beacon of warmth and hospitality. The property is meticulously maintained, radiating a sense of home thousands of kilometers away. What truly sets Mustache apart is its staff; a dedicated team that not only meets but anticipates every need, ensuring a seamless and comfortable experience. From the moment I stepped in, I was enveloped in a welcoming embrace, akin to a long-awaited reunion with old friends. This sentiment of belonging was omnipresent, thanks to the genuinely caring nature of everyone, especially Mayank, whose kindness left an indelible mark on my heart. The hostel serves as a melting pot of cultures, bringing together travelers from diverse corners of the globe. It was a privilege to share stories, experiences, and form connections with such an eclectic group. The hostel's location is another feather in its cap, situated conveniently at Assi Ghat. This prime spot allowed for spontaneous adventures and deep dives into the spiritual essence of Kashi. Exploring the ghats, immersing in the local culture, and returning to the comforting confines of Mustache was a rhythmic dance of adventure and tranquility. I left enriched by the experience, carrying a piece of Banaras and the warmth of Mustache with me. A heartfelt thank you to the team for crafting such a memorable stay.

The Hostel: Dorm rooms are spacious and relatively clean. Each bunk is equipped with a privacy curtain, fan, charging station, hooks and some have a small shelf (my bunk did not). Adequate storage lockers fitted under the bottom bunk (bring your own lock). Shower heater and water pressure worked well. Rooftop common area offers relaxed vibes with plenty of seating. Small kitchen offering a full menu with great food and drinks. The Stay: The bed was comfortable and the room is functional. Very safe and secure area. Location is good and a short distance to most attractions. Tuk Tuks are always parked outside for a quick ride anywhere in Varanasi including the airport. The Service: The staff were very kind and helpful (special thanks to Yash). They were always available to provide support. They offered early morning walking tours and airport shuttle service as needed. The chef in the rooftop kitchen was incredibly kind and patient despite getting slammed during peak hours.

-Constant chain smoking in the common area. Just hard to relax there in a perpetual billow of cigarette smoke -Cleanliness (sheets were stained and bathrooms were a bit grimey) -No toilet paper in the bathroom half the time -My bunk was missing some hardware -Loud music blasting from the common area until midnight each night and guests were pretty noisy well beyond that. It’s especially annoying if you’re staying on the 2nd floor (the hostel does not adhere to quiet hours) -Lastly, a written bedside reminder for guests…PLEASE be considerate of others when it comes to taking calls and being disruptive late at night. Although “quiet hours” are posted around the hostel, you still find people who think they are important enough to have their business heard by all - at all times of night

1. The people at the reception are just too good. Very Cheerful and Very Cordial. 2. The Rooms, as expected are very clean and comfortable. 3. Location wise , it is great. Easy to find and being centrally located , all the major attractions are just couple of kilometres away.

1. Its all great till you go to their cafe. Its the typical hostel/cafe behaviour, where the first priority are the Goras, then the ladies and then if lucky..you being a man will be attended. 2. Although the food, pricing and ambience is great, there is this bloody joker, who just refuses to attend to you until and unless you belong to one of the two categories. So rude that even after requesting him twice for the order, he had the audacity to ignore , plug in his earphones and park his skinny bottom on the chair.

Moustache hostel was a great place to stay in Varanasi. The staff was incredibly helpful and welcoming. The facilities were clean and air conditioned periodically during the day. The hostel also offered tours of the city. The rooftop pavilion was a great place to get to know other travelers.

The hostel staff and guests were mostly men. As a female traveler, this felt uncomfortable at times. I was always treated very respectfully but it is something to keep in mind if you are a solo female traveler. You might want to book a female only dorm room.

Comfortable bed, nice dorm. The upper terrace is very nice and the food served is good quality.

I'm a bit fed up with Indian travellers. I've been in India over a month and the local travellers do not respect anything. Leave the light on all night, listen to loud music or watch their phone until 4am. Smoke in the bathroom and disrespect the facilities. When you tell the staff, nothing happens and it starts again the next day.

This is a very social hostel just 5 minutes walk from Assi Ghat. The rooftop is a great place to hang out and meet other travellers, the dorms are spacious and each bed has an individual fan. Showers have hot water. Wifi is reliable throughout. Check in staff were super friendly and helpful and run some great activities.

Just a couple of minor things - there are only 2 showers per floor, and for the amount of people this often meant a wait (toilets and showers are in the same spaces so often a wait for the toilets, especially in the mornings). The staff who worked in the kitchen a few times tried to convince me to order something different to what I wanted. They told me what I wanted would take 25 mins where what they were recommending (a plain omelette) takes only 5 mins. If the staff don’t want to prepare more complex dishes they should be removed from the menu. The lunch/dinner special was also never available. That being said, when they did prepare the food they were willing to make it was good quality.

Yash and the rest of the staff were excellent. Super friendly, helped with itineraries and ran some fantastic tours. We did a sunset cruise and a sunrise one both that also came with a walking tour and street food but both completely different and excellent. Vibe of the hostel was fantastic, everyone chilled and chatted on the roof, had some drinks and played games. The beds were fine, people in dorms could sometimes be loud. Place is great value for money. There's a restaurant on the roof if you want food but you aren't expected to have anything. It's in a quiet area of town but there's some nice restaurants around as well as assi Ghat that has both morning and evening ceremonies at it.

There aren't loads of bathrooms for the amount of people so sometimes have to wait. As bathrooms are wet rooms they can get dirty from people walking dirty feet through the wet.
