Hotel Kalura

the location was stunning. We had a large balcony in front of our room which wasn’t entirely private and if someone lit up a cigarette (which happens far too often in Sicily), we scurried inside. The view was breathtaking.

The dinner restaurant food was ordinary. Fine for families but. head to town for a quality romantic meal. Michelin Star place took us in without a reservation. Breakfast on the terrace was very good and the ambience unbeatable.

This property is an amazing location. Right on the beach. It’s an affordable taxi to Cefalu town center for 12 euro. The view is absolutely spectacular. The beach staff was amazing. Remembered us and took great care of the swim platform. The bar staff was awesome! The breakfast was good and seating was indoor or outdoor facing the sea. Plenty of parking. Helpful front desk team. We had a 2 bedroom sea facing room and it was plenty big.

The hotel is very dated. It could be amazing if they updated in a more upscale fashion. Our room was considered updated but had black stripes up and across the ceiling which had a weird jail feeling. You had to give a deposit of 20 Euros per towel and they ran out if you wanted fresh ones. Air conditioning would not cool the room well. Pool is far from beach and sits in the parking area. Shampoo and shower gel came in small packets which was odd. Chairs on balconies banged around all night in the wind.

blanket felt dirty as did the floor decor was horrible, room didn’t have a nice feel to it takeaway breakfast was a disappointment on our last night very far from the town - we went in low season and there were no buses at prime time to Cefalu town walk was 35 mins rooms were very loud, no soundproofing and kept us up at night - as did the slamming doors

Stunning views from every window and a wonderful location on a quiet side of a busy town.

We found out there was a free shuttle to Cefalu town on the last morning of our stay, and we wished there had been information on the website or at check-in to save us time and money waiting for taxis.

Beautiful setting on the beach. Room had beautiful view of coast.

Cleaning service very late in the day.

Looks like a renovation of the old section is long overdue. That was where our room was. But we had a sea view and the room was big.

Bedrooms were clean and comfortable, with beautiful well looked after garden of colourful flowers. The beach area is the highlight for a perfect place to relax and swim - much more enjoyable than the packed beach at Cefalu. I stayed here twice for this reason. You’ll need €20 cash for towel hire which is returned (just in case you dont have any on you - the ATM in the foyer was not working when I was there)

Given it was 39-45C when staying, some free water or any water, in the rooms would be a nice touch for this level of accommodation. €3 a bottle otherwise which adds up. Its a 20-25 min walk to town, again in the heat was pretty hectic. A shuttle at a few times a day would be really helpful as it was €12-15 each time to get a Taxi about 2km. I did notice a few other hotels on this side had golf buggies. There is apparently a bus but I only discovered this after leaving the property. Appreciate the sustainable angle but Bathroom products were pretty average and could be upgraded. Take your own shampoo/conditioner. Again, always solutions but just something to be aware of.

I liked that the hotel had a pool and private beach. Once the sun set behind the cliff face, you had the option to move to the pool for more sun. Although, the temperature of the pool was very warm. The staff at the beach kiosk were friendly and welcoming.

There are advantages and disadvantages of the location of Hotel Kalura. As a solo traveller, it would have been better to either rent a car or stay closer to the city centre. I walked the 2km to and from the centre a couple times, however the heatwave in Sicily deterred me from venturing out more for fear of heatstroke.

the wonderful sea, the rocky shore perfect for snorkeling, availability of SUPs, kayaks, 2 types of "beach": concrete and pebble. If you love snorkeling/swimming, any water sports, this place is THE place for you! The sea shore makes up for any shortcomings you notice on the property. Great dinner food, evening ambiente, the beautiful art artefacts/paintings in the hotel (lobby, restaurant). The hotel staff was SUPER-FRIENDLY, patient and helpful; their professional work elevate the class of this hotel. AV very well functioning, a nice view from the balcony (we had family room). Spacious bathroom. Free (!) parking - thanks for that! Very clean pool, ping-pong table at the pool, snooker in the bar (even though not free). LOCATION!!!! Excellently positioned; water front and very close to Cefalu but not close enough to be overrun by crowds.

Some elements in the room were outdated and a bit rusty. Furniture not really a high quality. A bit irritation with with electric sockets in the room (too few, weirdly located). Stairs a bit dirty, dirt here and there in the building. Slow, timy and ancient elevator. Hotel Kalura is referred to as "Sport Hotel" - this is a bit ridiculous considering the size/equipment of the microscopic gym. Breakfast though pretty good becomes mundane after few days given that it is pretty identical each day. While we were very grateful for breakfast/lunch boxes on the days of early morning excursions (and missing breakfast), their content was not really exciting - please consider replacing those pudding crossaints with a regular sandwich! That would be a huge improvement. ;-)

I'd read the reviews for Kalura and knew it would be pot luck with the room. Ours was dated, but not bad and was very clean. It suited our family for our 2 night stay. We loved the beach and pool and found the staff kind and attentive. My girls also enjoyed the breakfast buffet and the barista was doing good coffee (included in the buffet price), which was a plus.

This hotel is quite isolated so there aren't many options nearby to go and eat. We ate at the hotel the first night which was expensive and not that impressive. The next night we walked through hotel La Calette and around to Cefalu (20-25 minutes) and ate at Da Sasa which did good pizza and pasta. This hotel is expensive for what it is, but we had an enjoyable stay. I would recommend taking the train to Cefalu if you are coming from Palermo. Quick, easy and cheap tickets. Take a taxi to the hotel. It will cost you about €12.
