The facility is simply spectacular. We stayed a six days, and never tired of the visual delight just looking at the castle, the views, the grounds. Indeed, I was so taken by the experience that I have paid for some friends to go there just so I can exude with them about what a wonderful place it is. Service was very professional and congenial. The front desk helped us with everything from internet to figuring out where to park for the Umbria Jazz Festival. We spent time every day at the pool before venturing into the heat of the afternoon. The restaurant was excellent and accomodating. We arrived mid-day without having eaten, and were immediately offered a meal at a time when many establishments would have been closed. The breakfast was quite complete, the evening wine selection as well. I cannot recommend Castello di Monterone highly enough and plan to return.

Removing the robot from the pool a little earlier in the morning.

The care and consideration provided in a most sympathetic restoration and renovation were highly evident as we entered the gates of Castello Di Monterone. The stature of the Castello proclaimed history and significance, the beauty of the grounds and gardens provided a calm and relaxing ambience. Views from the Castello were amazing - to the city of Perugia and the rural surrounds - so much contrast between the valley mist and emerging sun. Our room was well conceived and provided a very comfortable and relaxing ambience. The menu and standard of presentation was highly commendable - the staff obviously working hard to excel.

Extremely difficult to place a negative.....I give up!

It was wonderful to stay in what feels like a ‘real’ castle (especially for a castle ‘geek’). The rooms are all individual and nicely decorated. Great views towards Perugia. We used the pool (which was chilly in October) but it was lovely to sit in the 40C jacuzzi immediately afterwards. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and for breakfast. The staff were great and the menu was different and interesting; I had been worried I wouldn’t find anything to suit my tastes but in the end we are very well. The selection at breakfast was excellent. It was my birthday that weekend and the restaurant staff marked it both at dinner and breakfast (the latter with a beautifully decorated plate with a fruit ‘torta’) which was much appreciated.

It would have been nice to have tea/coffee makings in the room. The restaurant is extremely modern in style which is a slight shame since you are staying in a castle - but I imagine that couldn’t be avoided!

This is a lovely hotel in an old Castello with beautiful views across the countryside to Perugia about 3 kilometres away. However, the rooms are very small as is to be expected in an ancient building. We actually had to ask to change rooms because our first room was so small there was nowhere to put our suitcases on the floor to unpack. However, in mitigation, the views are absolutely fabulous, the breakfast terrace is lovely and it's worth asking for a room with a patio, which helps to make up for the lack of space within the actual room.

Sadly it really isn't up to the quality you would expect for the amount of money they're charging. It's lovely, if unnecessary to have clean sheets every day but there are no tea and coffee making facilities. The TV, high on the wall near the ceiling, is the size of a laptop screen so totally pointless. The lovely marble bathroom just has a tiny plastic shelf running along one wall which is at an angle, so everything you put on it falls off. There's no hair conditioner and only one product for washing hair and body. There are no usable wardrobes, just one tiny cupboard which is lovely and antique, but hardly any space to hang clothes. Finally, we were hoping to be able to walk into town in the evenings but it's a very busy road with no pavements so driving was the only option.

The room (Feritoie) was full of character and had plenty of space for us and our belongings. It was slightly dark, but this was because of the original windows being mainly the slits that the bowmen would have used to fire the arrows through and the windows to the stairwell being made of darker, coloured glass for privacy. I had asked for a room with elevator access, as my mum isn't able to manage lots of stairs, and we had the elevator literally six or seven footsteps from our door. I found my bed to be very comfortable, but my mum said hers was a little too firm for her liking. It's down to personal preference at the end of the day. The shower-room was lovely. The only thing that would have been useful would have been a well-lit magnifying mirror. Everything was spotless and the quality of the toiletries and linens was excellent. One thing that we brought along with us was a small travel kettle and cups, so that we could make our own hot drinks, but we know that many hotels outside of the UK don't provide this as a rule and therefore we were prepared. It was useful to have the small fridge to keep milk and other drinks cold. The website was out of date, as it mentioned two restaurants, when there's only one (Gradale). It was nice but the food wasn't particularly consistent (the night before a big event the food wasn't up to the same standard as on the previous evening). We would have also appreciated being able to eat before 7.30pm but the restaurant didn't open until then. Otherwise, everything was good and the staff were exceedingly friendly and helpful.

When driving to the property, it was initially a little confusing to know which way to drive in for resident's parking. It could have been made a little clearer, maybe in English. An earlier opening time for the restaurant would have been better for us and also a salad/soup option for when you don't want a big meal with all the courses.

This was an amazing stay during one night of our honeymoon. The castle was everything we had hoped it to be. We cannot say enough about how amazing the entire staff was. From check-in to check-out, we were treated exceptionally well, and the entire staff (to include the restaurant and groundskeepers) really added to our wonderful experience. Our room was spectacular, the grounds were beautiful, and the restaurant was exquisite. This was our favorite stop for our entire trip of Italy, and we will definitely be back someday. Thank you, Perugia!

Beautiful well-maintained castle with charming rooms, lots of little nooks and places to sit and read. Friendly staff both in reception and the restaurant. Pool was clean and at the perfect temperature. The view is exceptional, overlooking Perugia and the green hills and valleys surrounding it. Our room was not too big but still very cosy and charming with the medieval little window. Nice bathroom and everything felt very clean.

There were some mosquitos around especially in the afternoon / night but it's not the hotel's fault. Could be good to put up some mosquito repellent though.

This hotel exceeded my expectations. Usually when you stay in historical places like this, they can feel quite old and dated, but Castello di Monterone has been renovated and very tastefully decorated, so it feels very modern and luxurious. Staff is also very friendly, especially the people at the restaurant. The views from the restaurant were also stunning, and breakfast options were great. Lots of things to choose from, both savory and sweet. Parking was spacious and convenient. Location was very quiet and nice to stay in if you're driving.

Nothing.

What a beautiful property!!! We arrived right before sunset and were able to enjoy the golden hour with the gin drinks made out of the flower that grows on the property. We had a lovely dinner at the hotel and enjoyed a glass of wine while playing board games in one of the many rooms at the hotel. Loved the provided bath robes. The breakfast was amazing!!!! such a great variety with tiniest details and impeccable service. The grounds of the hotel are gorgeous, and we loved our short but unforgettable stay.
