It was our first time staying in a ryokan and it was such a wonderful experience! (We were here around 1.5 weeks ago from time of posting). The private onsen was so relaxing to be in, and the room was furnished well albeit it being quite dark inside due to the wood finishes - we like this aesthetic so we had no issues with this. We left our windows and shutters open to let the natural light in - we were in the 2nd floor. The food was also soooo good!! The brekkie and dinner sets was absolutely delicious, whilst wearing our yukata. We were served different sets over our two night stay, so nothing was repeated :) In terms of getting to the ryokan, we came from Osaka and got off at Odawara station (go to East Exit), and took the Togen Dai (Hakone) bus to Daigatake - which stops conveniently outside a Family Mart. The bus takes roughly 1h 15min. Be aware that it is just a regular bus with little luggage storage. Then it is a minute walk to the ryokan.
The main road gets quite busy during the day time, but it becomes all quiet by the evening.

Great ryokan in the Hakone area. Very close to a bus stop. There is a family mart close by with a great selection of foods & items. The dinner and breakfast provided are exceptional, so many items that can fill your stomach. The service and facilities in this place are also very satisfying. The private bath in your room is very convenient.

Big room with TV area, big shower area with indoor onsen. There’s also a balcony with great views of the city. The room has almost everything one will need, including coffee machine, all toiletries, even allow connection to Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, etc on the TV.
Noisy at night when it got very windy

I loved the dinner and breakfast menus. Each time it was different, and I loved each set. It was a bit hard to get to, but at the same time that's also made it great as you can easily relax, away from touristy spots. The bus stop is almost in front of the hotel, so it's not bad, but it will take about an hour to get from Odawara Station to the hotel by bus. It's close to Lake Ashi (one bus ride away), so if you need to go sightseeing (Hakone Cruise), it's not to far.
The hotel is right in front of the main road, and the room that I got was facing the road so it can get a bit noisy when large vehicles pass by. The bed was a bit too firm for me.

The breakfast was very delicious and filling. I also like the aesthetic of the room. We were looking for a traditional style room but with a mix of western style and that’s what the room provided.

A simple ryokan in a quiet part of Hakone, walking distance from the Venetian Glass Museum. We were worried the private bath would not fit two people but actually it is a good size. The room was quite spacious for two people as well. Having the kaiseki (multi course meals) was convenient and good value compared to other more expensive ryokans. Lots of fish in both the breakfast and dinner!
The eating situation with the kaiseki is a bit stressful. You eat in a dining hall with lots of servers hovering around and the same song played on repeat over and over. Some more written guidance on how to eat at the kaiseki would be good for foreigners who are unfamiliar with the experience.

Both check-in and check-out were quick and smooth. The service of the staff, especially in the dining area, was great. Even though they were busy, the staff was able to quickly respond to requests and orders. Stayed in a Japanese western room with a wetland view in the Annex building. The room was spacious (2 adults) and clean. The futon was surprisingly comfortable. The amenities are available in the reception area. Basic amenities were provided (toothbrush, cotton pads, razor, and yukatas). We took the bus from Hakone-yumoto and the ride was about 30 to 40 minutes.
We were given a room on the first floor, so there's no view. A higher floor would be better. Perhaps a few more amenities could be provided, such as body lotion or a facial care set. No bottles of water were provided.

Nice private onsen in your own room.
book taxi in advance if you’re planning on going to Hakone shrine or anywhere else. Takes time for taxis to come out there.

This hotel is located in village at higher elevation of Hakone. So it will give you very quiet and serene atmosphere which will be perfect for private outdoor onsen with trees/mountain view. They give you unlimited water/ocha/lemon sour drink that you can pick up anytime you want. Kind staff and well equipped for non-japanese customers.
If you have limited time and need to fly out or/and to take shinkansen to other cities… this location is a bit far to get to the station. You can take local bus to attractions. But it is not as convenient as you staying in hakone-yumoto area.
