Nice stay overall. Rooms were very quiet, which I liked. Not sure if I was lucky with friendly guests and housekeeping or if the rooms are really that sound-proof. Location was decent, near the Gion District and other places that are reasonably walkable. Good breakfast buffet with Japanese and Western items, although you need to time certain items or they will be gone within minutes.

I would appreciate filling out the city tax form during check-in. A bit inconvenient to fill out paperwork for city taxes upon check-out. Probably more convenient for this to happen after any incidental charges, but that's what most hotels do. I don't want to spend an extra 10mins to check-out for the sake of efficient travel.

Very beautiful and stylish hotel with a nice vibe. Staff were really nice and helpful. The room I stayed in was very stylish, big, comfortable and clean. The bed was very comfortable. Superb and perfect location. A ten minute walk to most things in Gion yet you still felt like you were in Gion old town, lots of locals and the streets were beautiful. I loved just wondering around near the hotel. I didn't eat at the hotel but I did eat breakfast everyday at a near by cafe called 'Sagan', delicious food, cool vibe and really cheap. A locals grocery store right around the corner and a convenience store 5 min walk away. Great shuttle bus service to and from Kyoto Station. I will be recommending this hotel to all my friends who go to Kyoto and want to splash out a little.

I loved staying at this hotel and had a great experience. My only feedback would be that I thought the onsen/communal bath would be a bit bigger and nicer. It was quite busy when tour groups were bathing at the same time. It was nice and clean and the dressing room had good facilities but I have seen much better in other hotels with lower star ratings.

Rooms were actually larger than expected, and location was good to get around Kyoto, would stay here again. Concierge was great help, called to make reservations for us, don't hesitate to ask for their help! Communication prior to arrival. We booked because they have a shuttle. Once we firmed up our plans, we were to arrive by train very late (around midnight or 1 am), so I sent emails to check on the shuttle and they responded promptly confirming we were outside their hours (which was on their website) and explaining our options. Shuttle to departure was on time and appreciated. Breakfast buffet has a wide range of foods, including bottomless brewed coffee.

Breakfast while extensive, is a bit pricey as is the hotel restaurant. (However, there many food choices are within 10 minute walk). This is nit picking as the rooms are very nice...all the drawers are full of helpful things, so you don't have places to place your clothes other than hangers when on an extended stay. Having said that, we really enjoyed staying here, and would recommend.

Ambience was beautiful, so very clean and service first call. Staff were very helpful.

When we checked in to your beautiful hotel and were sitting on the chairs in reception the girl came over and gave the welcome instructions to my husband and brother and not to me the wife, I stood up to come over to where they sat as I couldn’t hear and she told me to sit back down. I was embarrassed and it made me upset. I couldn’t hear anything about the Onsen instructions and felt like second class citizen. You must address this to everyone in the group( there were 3 of us). It was very impolite.

Excellent luxury hotel in Gion. The rooms are western, very clean and lovely. The private courtyard view as you walked to your room was lovely with the trees planted, moss, and rock formations. The hot bath on the bottom floor was nice as well with spa amenities. The bottom floor hot bath area had a separate bathroom and wash areas. The breakfast buffet that you must pay extra for on top of the room was tasty. The location is excellent as it is located between Kiyomizu-dera and Yasaka Shrine in Maruyama Park. Expect a few minutes' walk between these two places. We did it for the New Year's celebration and were glad of the hotel's location.

We booked the hotel for our ten year anniversary and it didn’t disappoint. The rooms were lovely and the staff very kind, nothing was too much trouble. We fell in love with Kyoto during our stay, walked a great deal and took cabs easily. We had the Yasaka Endo meal at the hotel as a special treat on the day of our anniversary and while it was in the hotel restaurant which was very quiet at night (the official restaurant is next door which was confusing), the food and the personal service were delightful. Kenta and the concierge team were brilliant in helping us organise everything. We loved the Hotel Celestine Kyoto!

Only very small thing was to have a king bed instead of two beds in the Junior Suite, but it was otherwise a beautiful room with a great view!

Such beautiful touches in the environment made the hotel a special place to stay. It felt serene, the staff were incredibly helpful and available to help at any stage. You really felt like a special guest. The location was fabulous, within an easy walk of many of the areas to see and the subways. The price was very reasonable for a wonderful stay. We had some washing done by the hotel, which was so beautifully returned to us.

The only thing I can think of is that the relax/common space only turns into a bar later in the evening, (while cute and tucked away), so no chance of a beer at the bar in the mid-afternoon if you return from sightseeing. Not a dealbreaker at all.

Beautifully designed modern decor and interior. Nice Onsen and traditional robes to access it. Great location opposite Kennin-ji Temple and Gion quarter. Friendly and helpful staff.

The room was a bit tight (we were travelling as couple with baby and there was very little storage space). For single travellers room size is good. The open kitchen/bath structure in the room was strange (maybe better to have a closed large bathroom?). Our room in first floor was didn't have a nice view (looking at a wall - see photo). Better to book rooms in higher levels. The water temperature in the male onsen was super hot (painful to go in the water), would be better if it was less hot. Breakfast could be a bit more varied. There is no public transport (subway) nearby so lots of walking or taxi required.

location outstanding for staying in Gion area, room very thoughfully designed with clever ways of partioning and storing, hotel very discreet and quiet, design is Japanese minimalist with almost no extraenous details or decoration. wet room is a pounding waterfall of high quality very hot water

breakfast barely passable for western tastes, coffee not on par for better hotels, bring your own nespresso pods and breakfast bars instead of paying for that extra, beds and pillows are very firm in the Japanese style, communication with the polite staff requires patience and time, Bar is a charmless closet (bartender very good however), restaurant pricing is very high, you can find the same quality in 10 min walk at 1/3 the price

Staff were friendly and courteous. And went beyond expectations. Great location. Particularly if you want to get up early and go out and get some shots of empty Gion streets before the tourist hoards turn up. Excellent choices at breakfast. The onsen is fabulous. The smell of the hotel, cypress I think, is beautiful. You feel like you’ve visited the spa just walking through the lobby. I enjoyed the free snacks and soft drinks in the lounge in the afternoon.

Nothing. One of the nicest hotels i have ever stayed in.
