Hotel Grand Maria

Our rate included dinner & breakfast; dinner was good quantity, good tasting and quite well presented. Breakfast was a standard American breakfast (from the menu) including eggs any style and brewed coffee. Location was excellent, only two blocks from the pedestrian boulevard that crosses the town's historic center. The hotel seems to be an old colonial house very well maintained and decorated. Room was ok, all you need, colonial style, wool blankets; no air conditioning & no heating; as some guests could resent this, we suggest checking the ambient temperature spread as we had around 32-34 C during the day and 11-13 C during late night and early morning. Nevertheless, during the day, the house is cool by design as typical of those old houses.

Rooms are no sound insulated at all. As they face the central house open patio (by the way nice and beautiful), you can hear most conversations in the area, specially by night.

This is a pretty hotel and is very centrally located a couple of streets away from the main road with bars and restaurants. the family room was very comfortable and a lovely big bed that was hard to get out of! We enjoyed an evening using the jacuzzi bath in the bedroom too! Breakfast and dinner was included and these were very nice.

On our first night the room was noisy because it is situated directly above the restaurant where there was a private function. The hotel only allows you to select 2 people for the family room on Booking.com so they charged us extra when we arrived as 3 people.

The room was quite big and the beds were comfortable. The decor in the room was beautiful, as was the hotel's covered courtyard. It was quiet. The check-in was efficient and the staff helpful.

The room had no windows on the outside and insufficient ventilation. It felt a bit stuffy. The only windows opened onto the inner, covered courtyard. The safe was installed on top of the wardrobe, in a very inconvenient location. The included breakfast was unremarkable. (I wish I had opted out and went to a cafe instead.)

Old charming hotel, room was nice and did not want to get out of the bed it was so comfortable. Room had no AC or fan and windows were locked as we were on ground floor yet it remained comfortable and cool. Inner courtyard is your patio/garden and a nice place to relax with a drink. Very helpful and friendly staff Good location. Good food.

no real negatives. staff a bit over attentive as we were only couple in restaurant. desk manager could not commit to offering us half day rent saying may not have a spare room to match our late bus, there was hardly anyone staying in hotel!

Close to center of San Cristobal de las Casas (walking distance). Good breakfast (may be included) in the room price. Renovated old historical building. Receptionists can arrange local tours for you for the same prices as local tour agencies. Good deal from the hotel for one day trip - tour to Aqua Azul, Mishol Ha and Palenque archeological site which starts from San Cristobal de las Casas (early departure from the hotel) and ends in Palenque (next hotel in Palenque or ADO bus station of Palenque). Space for your big luggage in this case of tour is limited. Only minivans are operating on this tourist route.

If you like sleeping in fully darkness, it is possible only after midnight till sunrise, because internal window curtains in your room are not able to isolate fully your room from corridor lights and direct sunlight after sunrise. My room has internal windows in the room to the corridor and something like internal rotunda in ancient style. During the breakfast you need to now basic Spanish words to order and enjoy your meal. No English from bar and kitchen staff.

Fantastic location, we rebooked another week with them. Really liked the place, the old colonial layout with the rooms around the courtyard, great service and hot water available all the time. We ended up having breakfast there nearly every day as the staff were really great with our very limited ability to speak Spanish. An additional like was that we could book tours from there and flick through a brochure from our room (incidentally the Chamula tour was great!).

The cold - not the hotels fault as we gather the older hotels don't in the main have heating and we visited during a very cold spell - but the room was cold. They did immediately give us a heater when we asked if they had one - which warmed the room up a little.

Very pretty courtyard. Big bed. Provided us with extra blankets. Clean good shower. The tour operator is part of the hotel and organised a trip to see the waterfall which was excellent. It has a restaurant we used for breakfast once, which was nice. Good location walkable to the main square with lots of restaurants and bars. Excellent free walking tour.

Room opened up into the courtyard bit intrusive. The reception staff spoke very little English.

Great location. Good sized room with antique furniture. Hot water. Blankets. Clean.

Plastic sheeting on bed. Awful to sleep on the sheets constantly slipped all around. Felt like a child. The rooms could be a bit noisy due to other guests. But although it was a lovely hotel overall I will not stay there again if the plastic sheets remain.

Good breakfast choices but terrible coffee, a strange thing considering the high-quality coffee production in the area. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated with all the necessary amenities.

Where to start... location is perfect, two blocks away from the cathedral and central park! Hotel was gorgeous and don’t get me started on the rooms! Lower level had a seat, couch, armoire and bath whilst the cozy loft housed the king size bed. The rain shower was more like a tropical storm I never wanted to leave; amazing water flow and pressure made showering an unexpected treat for sure. Breakfast was delicious with several choices of local dishes and the likes of “pancakes” if you need something a little closer to home :) Best part was probably the staff though. Always beyond attentive and even offered to send a car out to get us when we got lost driving! Who does that?!?! Can’t say enough about the entire crew!!
