Rutherford Hotel Nelson - A Heritage Hotel

We loved the location so close to the city centre and local cafes & eateries etc. The hotel has a beautiful foyer which is very welcoming and the staff are very professional and helpful. There is an over all old world elegance about the hotel which is very attractive and restful. We found our room had all that we required for a pleasant stay. The bed was very comfortable, and we loved the fact that the bathroom had a bath. We had breakfast in the hotel one morning and were very impressed by the quality of the food and the elegant dining room.

Unfortunately we had to ask for a change of room after our first night as we had been put on one of the lower floors at the back of the hotel directly above the service area where there was a bright light all night long and a very early (5.50am) noisey visit by a delivery/?rubbish truck. Also we were disturbed by the sound of the air conditioning outlets which seem to be situated near ground level at the back of the hotel. However we were very grateful to be rescued by two excellent staff who promptly organised a new room for us the next morning which was just perfect.

Location was fabulous, close to cathedral and restaurants. Staff polite and efficient. Nice options on the pillow menu

Material headboards are stained from people's heads as per photo. Completely disgusting. Beds really soft. Mobility warning - Shower is in tub, but tub is raised so it is a very high step to get in and out. Shower glass has hinge in it, which the water leaks out through onto the floor.

Central to the city space…. Cathedral, many walking tracks, River Walks, Restaurants, Bars, Botanic Garden, Nelson Art Gallery, Saturday Markets. Don’t need a car if your adventures are centrally located. Hotel is now 50+ years old and iconic to Nelson. She is central, rooms large, comfortable and slowly being reconditioned. Staff were just lovely.

Humming from air conditioning. More white noise but noisy enough to be aware it’s there.

The rooms were a good size, there was good lighting, the air con actually kept the room at a good temperature, the bed was insanely comfortable, there were extra pillows & a thick blanket in the cupboard

The bathroom is quite dated - the shower was over a relatively narrow bath tub, so standing wasnt hugely comfortable & the shower head was actually pretty rubbish with a single setting, not adjustable & a very wide spray.

Ideal location, close to the shops and the fantastic nelson market. Beds are arguably the most comfortable hotel beds ive slept on. rooms were super spacious for 2 people. Overall a fantastic experience, we will be back.

Pool was a little on the small side, But i also didnt see there was a pool, so it was still a nice surprise.

We chose the Rutherford as it is central to everything. There is on site or street parking outside if you have a vehicle. You can walk everywhere. To Centre if NZ, Grampians, Maitai River and many superb restaurants, bars and the Saturday markets.

We had a little humming all night from facility air conditioning. More white noise- not loud but definitely there.

The location and everything was quite nice

Not a dislike, but we didn't realise the key card needed to be placed into the slot by front door to activate power until we phoned reception, perhaps a small note in the card the keys come slotted into might save other novices like ourselves from a few minutes of confusion

We were so impressed by the fact that at breakfast on Christmas day we were served by none other than the General Manager our compliments to him for "mucking in", Also a special mention for a staff member THEO this young man we highly rate as a future investment. Please keep an eye on him.

It was very comfortable. Central location to shops, restaurants and museum.

Had a little problem with housekeeping. They kept taking the spare key card from the slot. I had kept my son's antibiotics in the fridge for his allergies which had to be stored in the fridge. My parents had to move to another room because their bathroom sink had clogged.

Super comfortable bed, clean and close to town. Loved the pool and the kai was beautiful. Staff super helpful and friendly.

No food heating ability in the rooms so ended up wasting food we could eat cold. And no extraction fan in the bathroom so the moisture lingered for ages after a shower.
