San Francisco Proper Hotel, a Member of Design Hotels

The hotel is lovely - very modern, high spec, great rooftop bar, restaurant etc. Everything inside the hotel is perfect.

The area. I haven't been to San Francisco for over five years and the homelessness is out of control - you cannot walk around the hotel, you need to get taxis everywhere. It's not the hotel's fault at all and they do their best to support guests e.g. car service within the city. It's also not unique to this hotel, the entire SoMa area is similar. Devastating to see.

The staff and service was excellent. The hotel is beautiful, restaurants amazing, room is great and good toiletries.

The location - I wasn’t aware prior to booking that the hotel was in Tenderloin which has a lot of homeless and high in crime. I wouldn’t have felt safe walking anywhere from the hotel. However there is always hotel staff at the door to escort you to and from transportation and the hotel even has a free shuttle. However if you are looking to stay in a walkable neighborhood, I’d look elsewhere

The breakfast was superb! We had the Shakshuka on the rooftop and also had breakfast on the first floor patio restaurant. Excellent food and service. Hotel is centrally located between two playhouses, the Golden Gate Theatre and the Orpheum, both of which bring me to San Francisco. I highly recommend this hotel to friends and relatives.

I can't think of anything about this hotel that I did not like. Every detail about comfortable accommodations was addressed by the staff and amenities in the room.

The customer service was exceptional, Caroline was rep that checked us in she was professional friendly, and super helpful. The room very retro and jazz loved it, very clean and inviting. Although the hotel seems to be located in a rougher part of SF, I felt safe and secure. The roof top Bar ANd restaurant Charmaines loved it. My wife and I definitely going to make this our regular vacation spot.

There was absolutely nothing I did not like.

Felt like a damn movie star in this hotel. Staff really looked out for every detail - hooked me up with a better room, escorted me to the hotel bars and restaurants, and generally just made it a great experience. Super comfy bed. Beautiful design. Will be back.

Extremely kind and helpful staff, with a special mention to Tuan, the bellman!! Nice room and super comfortable bed. Beautiful rooftop bar and restaurant.

Neighbourhood did not feel very safe, although we had no incident to report.

room was too small for 4. Improve illumination in the common areas. external access to roof top bar/restaurant. not a very nice neighborhood.

The far best part of the hotel is the rooftop Charmaine's restaurant. Beautifully and tastefully done. Intimate little fire-pits with slick views of the surrounding skyscrapers. Both dinner and breakfast excellently prepared. Not cheap! Perfect place to stay if you are going to the Van Gogh Immersion exhibit - can walk there.

The lobby and the staff I found a bit cold. Unfortunately due to COVID the first floor restaurant Villon was closed and so no bar scene and an empty lobby. Also, I'm sure when they planned and built the hotel, they expected this part of Market Street to develop near Twitter. Instead lotta homeless around. Not the hotel's fault or choice I am sure.

Love the design and hotel vibe. Staff were extremely nice and a huge shoot out to Katalina M. for constantly going over and beyond. Her attentiveness to guest was observed multiple times. Such as when guest would ask where something was she would escort them instead of point. She even noticed that I got sunburned really bad and later that day when she went to a plant store she thought of me and brought back clippings of an Aloe plant for my burn

There can be a lot of homeless in the area
