Very good wifi and comfortable bed. Easy to use shower facilities. Can't day much more on that as only spent time in room to sleep. Location of this hotel was excellent and close to trains, trams, trollys and buses

Room was a little warm, could do with a fan at the least. Opening the window meant little flies came in but very little breeze due to the window being opposite another tall building. Dust left over from previous building work, not sure if carpet was cleaned.

it was quaint and quirky. it’s not the fanciest hotel by any means, but it is clean and had a lot of character. it’s an older building and was great location for what I was in town for. there are many places to stay around this area and honestly super stoked I stayed here actually compared to the run of the mill places. I had zero issues staying here. I mean you cannot control what is on the outside and I never felt unsafe staying here. I would stay again. the staff was super friendly and helpful.

hmmmm, the homeless population in the area but that has nothing to do with hotel itself. the parking is awful unfortunately but I think that’s how it goes around there.

The hotel is in a very convenient location. It’s close to Union Square and BART stations, and is easy walking distance to Chinatown, North Beach, and SoMa. There are lots of great eating options nearby. The staff were friendly, helpful, and welcoming, especially Hansel on the front desk during the week. I found the Wi-Fi to be excellent. My room was very comfortable and housekeeping were attentive.

It would have been nice to have a coffeemaker in the room.

Helpful staff allowed early check-in and storage of bags and coat after check-out. Location was convenient for attending a conference in the Hilton Union Square, one block downhill.

Security could be improved. On several days, I returned to the hotel in early evening and found the front desk to be unoccupied and easy access to the elevator with an open door. TV selection was entirely fictional entertainment; could not find any news reports, especially no PBS!

I love this location. It was close to where our son lives. The hotel is older but I felt in good condition. It has good bones and it was clean. If you want an expensive hotel, there are plenty around but this one is very affordable. Most of sf does not have air conditioning and there was a fan included in room. There was maid service everyq day. Bed was made and new towels put out.The fixtures all worked and plenty of outlets. There is a starbucks down a couple stores to the right. There is a jack in the box on other corner. A pinecrest diner (which always had a line and was quite delicious) on other corner and across the street are 2 theatres.

The only thing that could be a little unsettling was the garbage dumpsters are emptied around 1230 at night on side and you could hear that. It happened about 2 out of 4 nights we stayed. I am a light sleeper as well.

The concierge people (I spoke to 2) at the front desk were extremely nice and helpful - over the phone prior to booking the room, and also in person when I arrived. The filtered water station where you can fill up your water bottle for free was also great. And you can't beat the location - walking distance to Union Square and Embarcadero, etc. Last, the room was quaint, spotless, and in great condition.

The only drawback was that the room smelled pretty musty - I'm thinking the curtains, carpet, and shower curtain could probably use a cleaning/freshening-up (or replacement) from so many years of use.

The location is very very good! The staff is very polite and helpful, The room was big enough, albeit a bit cold. The first night we were really cold so we asked for extra blankets, but after the first night it was better (i also upgraded to long pants:)) ) They have a water fountain downstairs and hot water so we made tea and coffee<3 i really liked this

the carpet of the hotel....it really smelled funky..and how cold it was especially first night.

Great location - just off Union Square, very central location with easy access to BART, theatres, etc. Relatively affordable overnight public parking (Hearst parking) nearby, 17 USD per night. Clean (although weathered) room. Good, large and comfortable bed. Large table in the room. Very warm inside, despite it was winter. Good VFM for San Francisco (a bit less than 100 USD in low season).

Stinch in the lobby (old carpets smell like a rare blend of mold, tacos, and some hint of garlic). Dozens of rough sleepers around the hotel, many of them very sick, with signs of drug abuse and/or mental and physical disorders (but this is unfortunately the same everywhere in downtown San Francisco). Towels are worn out, and windows could benefit from cleaning. The bathroom would benefit from a detachable shower and low-water "anti-tsunami" toilet (for some obscure reasons those feature are rare in the USA).

The room was freshly painted and the sink in the room and the bathroom were recently redone and Both were very clean. The sink was in a granite counter. Lighting in the room was great and each bed had its own side table and light. The bed was comfortable and the staff are very helpful the Hotel had a water machine in the lobby for cold water and a hot water available 24/7 which is good since there is no breakfast provided but you could always get water there and it says hard to buy individual bottles of water because of the plastic restrictions in San Francisco. We were on the seventh floor and the room did not have any screens. we had heard that this might be the case but we actually found that there really were not any bugs that we had to worry about. the one thing I would say is that if you had small children you probably would not want to stay in this room because it would be easy for them to climb out the window. The room had a floor fan and between that and having the windows open it was a very comfortable temperature at the end of September when we were there. As you may have seen in some of the reviews with the windows open the room is pretty noisy one reason is that construction seems to happen at night so you hear a lot of construction equipment going so be aware of that if u get a room on the street with a view. The view from my window is gorgeous we enjoyed that very much . The hotel is situated across from two beautiful theaters but they are not opening until at least January 2022. We were able to walk to the cable cars, to market Street, lots of easy access to public transportation which we used for our entire week.

Nothing really-The hotel is on the edge of the tenderloin district which has a lot of homeless people in it but you figure out quickly which way to walk to avoid that. We were never personally hassled by anyone. The elevator did break down once in our eight day stay but it was fixed relatively quickly. It’s a 100 year old elevator so it did well.

The location is perfect, within walking distance to stores, restaurants, China Town, Cable Car Museum, Powell Street, and short rides to Ferry Building and all different amazing spots (Painted Ladies, Museums, etc). The Hotel is historic, so cool to see all the details on it, might not be the most modern but is always super clean that and it's design is something to appreciate. The staff was amazing! Hansel, Hersh, and Alex were so accommodating and helpful, they even upgraded our room to have a bigger bed and view. Will definitely come back.

If you are a light sleeper, you will be getting lots of noise from the street (even if you are located in the 6th floor) and from the halls. Also the TV is old, so might not work very well, but you are in San Francisco! who needs tv?
