Sandman Signature Calgary Downtown Hotel

Staff was very friendly and helped with any questions we had during our stay. We did get conflicting information between the hotel and Moxie's though, where we called the front desk to ask about the menu in the restaurant and were forwarded to room service who would supposedly tell us the menu. We called them but were told to check the menu online instead. Would be good to have this stuff clearer to avoid being bounced around.

The shower did not work very well. We were going to change rooms/have maintenance check it but ultimately decided against both because we were tired. The shower pressure was weak and at a good temperature water just dribbled from the shower head. If the pressure was good, the water was piping hot. The drain also did not drain water very well. The bed skirt was dirty when we got to the room. For the price, facilities and cleanliness should have been better.

I was accidentally charged for a no-show, as the hotel had duplicate bookings for me. luckily I noticed before my departure, so I could sort it out. when I checked in I was told the double booking was a mistake and it would be cancelled but it wasn’t and that was why I was then charged a no-show fee. after speaking to reception I got this reversed.

Location is convenient, right on the c-line but with that there are a lot of colorful people around, especially at night. Bed was surprisingly comfortable and I never heard any other guests.

All very minor things, overall a great stay, but I couldn't get the a/c to work (also never called FD about it) the mini fridge was too mini... Could barley fit any supplies in there for a two night stay, and the sink wouldn't drain right away. Also one minor inconvenience is if you are parking, the elevator only goes to the 1st and 3rd levels. So if you park on level two, expect to drag your luggage up a few steps

Hotel room was spacious n clean. The king-size bed was very comfy. Room came equipped with coffee machine, microwave n a little fridge. So good for a short term stay. Parking was also available for free at the hotel. There's Moxie's bar n restaurant in hotel as well.

The air conditioning unit in the room was very loud. The hotel location was in a rough area of the city. We didn't feel safe walking around in the evening. Check-out time was only 12 p.m. however the housekeeping staff came around to try cleaning our room as of 8 a.m. to check and see if we had left. They knocked at least five times and we felt pressured to leave before our check-out time.

the gym needs some hard updating. I’ve stayed here before a few times and every time i come more machines are broke down in the gym and items are missing from the large multi use weight equipment. disappointing as I usually LOVE sandman facilities. why do sandman hotels always have the worst pillows!!! they are these super fluffy pillows that hurt your neck. I usually end up not sleeping with one.

I cannot explain how lovely the man who checked me in was. I had had a terrible time at the airport and due to a luggage mix-up, hadn't been able to board my connecting flight home. I was unexpectedly in -18C Calgary without any of my luggage, wearing clothes I only expected to wear on a plane. The man at check in found me a toothbrush and toothpaste, and looked everywhere for make up wipes for me. I was very upset when I got to the hotel and it was late at night - probably about 11.30pm. He was so very kind. I am coming back to Calgary (out of choice this time!) and hope to stay here again. The room was spacious and clean and the location is fabulous.

great location, in the centre of everything so most places were within walking distance and if it wasn’t, a tram station was right outside the hotel. All the staff were super accommodating, we stayed there for 4 nights and it was different receptionists everyday but every single one of them were great. The pool’s nice and their gym was great. It was better than i thought and the pictures didn’t do the property justice. Everything was clean and extra supplies were easy to get.

Location is great. Room nice and clean with everything you need. Large window so you can watch the busy street while sitting. Powerful AC/heater. The reception was always staffed and welcoming. Plenty fast elevators.

Fridge is loud. AC at times extremely loud if active, I don’t get why you would install such a powerful machine in a small room. The sound proofing to the street is quite bad, you definitely hear every train, pedestrian traffic lights and so on even in higher floors.

Clean hotel. Friendly staff. Received free upgrade to king size room. Room rate was very reasonably priced to begin with. After we went to our room, staff phoned to check that everything was satisfactory. Staff at front desk wrote out instructions for how to get the LRT. Went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant. Our room was very cozy and the two person shower with rainfall shower head was wonderful. So much nicer than a tub shower. Was a great upgrade.

The Moxie's restaurant attached to the hotel seemed to have a bit of a small flying bug problem. They were fruit flies I think. We smacked away quite a few of them flying by our table. Kind of gross.

the room was clean and the bed was super comfy. the walk in shower was HUGE. The entirety of the hotel was impeccably clean and the staff were super friendly.

there’s construction happening right now on the street the hotel is on, made it a little confusing to get to but that’s not the hotel’s fault. I noticed that the smoke alarm in one of our rooms had a piece of tape over the bit that detects the smoke. Again, that’s probably not the hotel’s doing but a previous guest. The locks on the windows aren’t super functional, it took 2 minutes of trying to open the window for my husband to open it all the way.
