Eco-hotel El Rey del Caribe

I kept on extending my stay, over 7 weeks in total including Christmas and New Year. The staff are all so friendly, hard working and very happy! The eco touches, green trees, plants, wooden stairs, wooden balconies and the woodpecker bird visiting each morning made this middle of the city hotel an absolute joy for a nature lover like me. 24 hour security and a breakfast that I became a very timely regular for, never missed a meal in all the weeks I was there; shout out to the staff for looking after me each morning as I relaxed for two hours amongst the tress reading and eating breakfast ! The location is ideal as you have absolutely everything you need from gods restaurants, PCR test, SIM card recharge, food supermarkets and so much more all within 1-4 minute walk! As I live and work at sea and around beaches this is never my interest so the $10 taxi ride to the hotel zone and golden sands I only made theee or four times. I great choice and fabulous value !

Having to leave as it become a home away from home !

El Rey del Caribe was one of my favorite places we stayed in Cancun or Tulum! The staff was friendly, very helpful when I needed to find a show to watch on Mexican television(!) they arranged transport from the airport (highly recommended!) and the swimming pool and grounds were gorgeous. having a pool is really key because of how hot it gets. AC worked only when we were in the room which was fine. They had a cool outdoor elevator to help with bags. The location was great - we could walk to OXXO convenient store and Parque de las Palapas which is a must see!

The woman who made breakfast was very nice and the food was delicious. The only issue was it took a very long time, and had to be ordered all together, instead of grabbing a cup of coffee and then having eggs later. I would suggest they set up a coffee station. I wanted to help the poor woman doing breakfast when everyone sat down at the same time and she made everyone's breakfast and coffee to order! Ach! But it was still wonderful to have breakfast included, I appreciate that.

Excellent location, if you want to be close to the bus station. Easy walking distance to the bus station. The hotel is very quiet, even though it's very close to major traffic arteries. The staff is very friendly, and very professional. The interior patio is like a jungle, with plants everywhere. Navigating the jungle to get to my room was very fun. There's an extensive collection of books, for travelers, in the breakfast area.

Just a side note. In the US, when a hotel says that they offer transportation to/from the airport, that means it's free. In Cancún, when a hotel says that they offer transportation to/from the airport, you pay an extra fee for the transportation.

Excellent location and a beautiful eco property right in the heart of downtown and close to the ADO station. Breakfast was decent and the staff were always quick to help for any issue. There is also an elevator to help take your stuff to your room and the property is handicap accessible which is a plus.

If you have pickup on any day tours or such, they will not pick you up here as this hotel is located near a small round about. They will pick up at oasis smart hotel which is a 20 min walk. Property itself is gorgeous and if there’s any issue the staff are very quick to help.

I've stayed at El Rey del Caribe twice before (starting in 2006), and I think it will always be my go-to in Cancun. It's very close to the ADO bus station, which is handy for heading into or out of town, and they arrange taxi service to/from the airport upon request. The grounds are enchantingly beautiful, that I'd describe as a lush, cultivated jungle! The centerpiece to the grounds is a small but lovely pool, and there's a hot tub somewhere that I've not had the opportunity to use. The fact that El Rey del Caribe is eco-friendly is very important to me. From recycling to reducing energy usage and minimizing unnecessary laundry loads, they've thought of everything, and it shows -- they have relationships with the local community, who visit the grounds to take yoga classes and the like. Another small detail I like is that rooms on the main level are wheelchair accessible -- not a single step up or down required. I don't happen to need that accommodation, but the smooth walkways lend a kind of peace to the grounds that I notice every time I'm there. Each room has its own mini-split air conditioner, and most importantly, the beds are comfortable!

Even the negative has a positive: The current wifi at El Rey del Caribe is very bare-bones (useful only for texting, really). When I told the management that I needed video-friendly wifi for a work-related meeting, the manager figured out how to provide me with high-speed internet for my entire work day. They videoconference went flawlessly! They're planning to upgrade their wifi, but of course they must first remain viable through the pandemic. I urge all visitors to keep in mind how hard it is for any hotel to stay open during this difficult time, and I encourage you to invest your travel $$ in El Rey del Caribe if you're planning to spend a day or two (or a week!) in Cancun.

Breakfast area and the food served there are my absolute favorite things about this hotel, besides the amazing lush green oasis that surrounds the pool and sitting area. Staff is super friendly and hard working. Location is close to all amazing downtown restaurants, local market, ADO bus stop, local transit. They have a Yoga room, a small kids friendly pool. Our room was spacious, well furnished, had a stove, dishes and a mini fridge. The bed was really comfortable and helped relax after tiresome exploration days.

The property is a bit outdated and needs to be updated, there was a construction going on somewhere on the top floor (hopefully an upgrade), that caused a bit of noise in the afternoon, but we were always leaving to explore by then so weren't really bothered. A group of noisy loud family checked in late one night (not the property owners fault), but they were clearly audible because property is not very sound proof. Our room door and the washroom door lacked a latch-lock, forcing us to lock from inside with a key. The bathroom doors are bit transparent and pose a privacy concern, if you are staying with friends or family.

We are so glad that we chose this nice little hotel in downtown Cancun after staying two nights in the touristy hotel zone. We enjoyed walking around to see where the locals live and eat, and it is easy to walk to the bus stop (R1) that takes you to the nice beach (dolphin beach) in less than 20 minutes. Despite its convenient location, the hotel is safe (front gate locked and guarded at night) and feels quiet once you are inside. Make sure to check the Yoga room on the top floor. My wife enjoys it a lot and requests that we have one in our new home. Martria Patricia at the reception is very nice and helpful. My daughter who speaks a little Spanish enjoys chatting with her and tells us she kinda thinks of minoring in Spanish in college. Overall, it is a loving memory for all of us.

The fruits in Cancun are mostly tasteless even in the big all-inclusive hotel. We like sitting in the open and lush yard enjoying a relaxing breakfast, and the lady is super nice. It would have been better if we were given more choices, but I have no complains given the price of the hotel.

Breakfast was great, they had a nice selection including fresh fruit. The room was comfortable, the A/C worked to perfection. The staff was friendly. We were close to nice cafes, including the Palapas Park. The pool looked beautiful.

We plugged in our fridge to keep our water jar cold. On the 2nd day, as we were packing up I noticed a dead cockroach next to the jar. Gross! We rented a car, but couldn't use it much at night because of the risk of running out of parking space. The kids reported slow Wi-Fi at times.

VERY comfortable beds., great hot shower, easy walk to ADO bus station, great breakfast included, lovely, secret garden ambiance! Was perfect for one night between flights in-out of Cancun. Get ADO bus ticket at airport and avoid aggressive airport taxi scams!

GPS had a little trouble getting us from bus station to hotel. Just study the map and look for street signs. We ended up taking a 2 minute taxi ride from station to hotel because we lost our bearings - worth it at 50 pesos!. Walked back no problem in the morning.

Hotel garden & pool area is wonderful (although there are a few mozzies). Most of the staff are friendly & helpful (esp Martha). The breakfast is good (with friendly staff). ADO bus station & Soriana supermarket and lots of resaurants just round the corner. Although it is central, it is quiet.

Comfortable seating for 2 (small sofa)in the bedroom would be an improvement. Wifi only extended to the front door (from all signals) - weak signal available at the door with the door open otherwise no signal in room. A few more beds at the pool (only 2 there)
