AC Hotel Carlton Madrid by Marriott

The reception staff were lovely & welcoming & made sure everything was perfect for my stay. I had a newly renovated room which was good, bathroom very spacious & tea/coffee facilities supplied. Bed was very comfortable & room was very dark as only one window which faced a brick wall. Good for sleeping as you couldn’t tell if it was morning or not but I would have preferred a better view from the window.

You could also hear a fair bit of noise from other rooms, especially water etc going through pipes/drains.

Location was convenient to Atocha train station, and transport was easy at Atocha (metro, train, airport bus). The breakfast buffet was great and served until 11 - great selection and variety. Everything was very clean and staff were pleasant and helpful. The room was comfortable if a bit modest for a 4-star Marriott - certainly no flash. Comfortable and quiet for a good sleep. Overall a good choice, with a few caveats.

Few casual eating places nearby. The area seemed safe, but a couple of the nearby streets were a bit seedy. Not a lot of things of interest in immediate area (Retiro Park is easy to walk to). The area seemed to be mainly office buildings with some small-scale retail. The room was kind of dark (no task light at the desk). The shower was nice, but only partly enclosed and you have to stand in the slippery tub. I could not get the thermostat to adjust, and the room was a bit warm for my liking (bit noisy with the window open)

The location was good for us as we were taking the high speed train back to Taragonna and the train station was close. There were also some nice restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel. We were able to visit the old town area by taking a cab, which worked out very well. The hotel rooms were very comfortable and clean and the staff was very helpful and friendly.

Parking our vehicle to unload our luggage was difficult to find. We ended up walking with our luggage a block and a half. There were steps down to the lobby, right at the entrance, which made it difficult (with our 90 year old mom) to get our luggage into the lobby. It wasn't until we all made it down the steps that we were told there was another easier entrance with no steps. We did not have breakfast in the hotel as it was fairly pricey, but did enjoy a cup of coffee from the restaurant each morning.

Room had a balcony. It was very clean and the bed, shower etc were all first class. The location near the train station and other tourist attractions was very convenient.

The elevators were very small. The dining menu was a bit limited but we went elsewhere to eat dinner. The need to bring cases through the revolving door and down a few steps should be rectified.

Located within 15 minute walk to museums and Retiro Park. Five minutes from Atocha Station. Comfortable room. Good selection of items at breakfast. Helpful staff.

Breakfast selection not as extensive as 4 years ago as breakfast restaurant undergoing renovation and this meal now available in a smaller room.

We liked everything. The location was fabulous. Beside Atocha, bus, train and metro station. Beside El Retiro park, galleries and botanical gardens. Lots of restaurants and bars nearby. A walk or metro ride to Sol. Our room was beautiful and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Very friendly and attentive personal / receptionists. Veeery compfy beds ! Quarter with reataurants, take away, kiosk, small supermarkets, shoes, flowers, other shops. Friendly shop owners although not fluent in english. Breakfast includes everything you wish for: fruit, cerials, bacon and egg, variety of bread (an toaster), sweet cakes, ... I liked best: Tortilla and warm milk (!) next to maschine for delicious Nespresso Coffee available in diverse tastes/ strongness.

Thre was no glas or anything to put in tooth brush also no soap dish and therefore it sticked to the sink or smeared it up.

the breakfast buffet is 20 euro per person which seems too much given how cheaply you can eat around the hotel, so we passed on the hotel breakfast. the bar by the reception is only open in the evenings, it’d be nice if they served coffee and tea during the day in the reception bar

Great location, friendly staff, comfortable bed and a really good size spotless room. We were able to walk to most places. The check in/out process was very smooth. We were able to leave our bags with the staff for a few hours on the last day before heading to the airport.

The temperature of the shower changed slightly without us adjusting it but it wasn't a huge deal. Everything else was great.

I did not have the breakfast as I felt that it was expensive for what I would have eaten. The staff were good.

The tea/ coffee in the room had a single sachet of coffee and three tea sachets and sugar but no milk. I had to purchase milk and coffee from a supermarket. I was put not a much smaller room than the other party I was travelling with. This was a bit disappointing however it was almost as stated on website.
