Principe Pio

Location was great. Within 20 minute walking distance of most of the attractions we wanted to visit. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Wife was bit by something on our first night. There were a few cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and my wife squashed a bug in our room.

Great hotel! Everything was clean, the room was very quiet with a comfortable king size bed. Very friendly staff at the front desk. Definitely would come back when going again to Madrid.

Room is big and very comfortable. Breakfast is varied and delicious. Hotel has an excellent location, near of the center historic of the city. Near of two metro stations.

Free wifi does not working properly. If you decide to get there on your own by taking the metro from the airport, you should keep in mind that the hotel is located on top of a hill, so walking from Principe Pio station can be exhausting.

The location of the hotel is ideal, being within walking distance of many of the attractions and only a short distance from the Principe Pio Metro/rail station. It also has a rooftop terrace with seating & loungers and views across the city. Our room was at the rear of the hotel and although this didn't give us much of a view, it did have the advantage of no road noise at all. It was spotlessly clean with plenty of storage available. There was also a bottle of cold water in the fridge. Wifi was good and the room had plenty of power sockets, with USB ports adjacent to the bed. The bed was huge and firm, but not to the degree of being uncomfortable. The staff were very smart, courteous and helpful. On our arrival we were each offered a drink of cold water, which was welcome on a hot September day. The breakfast was nice, with a good range of items. My favourite was having pancakes and fruit.

There was little not to like. As other reviews have mentioned, the shower whilst functional, did sometimes fluctuate between hot & cold during use, requiring regular temperature adjustment. The only other item was just a bit quirky. The room had tea making facilities (teabags, kettle & fridge), but oddly no coffee. There was also no spoon (only stirring sticks) and the cups were only disposable paper cups, despite proper cups being available in the restaurant. None of this spoiled our stay and we would certainly stay here if we were in Madrid again.

Loved the location from which we could walk to major tourist locations. Easy to take a taxi. Although the property was along a main road, you cannot hear the traffic at all. Staff go out of their way to help us. Eg we had an early morning plane and since we could not have breakfast, they made up a breakfast box to go and booked us a taxi to the airport.

On our 2nd visit for this trip, the room was older but still nice 7th floor and the neighbours were a bit noisy. On our earlier stay ( 2-6 Nov), the room on the 5th floor was newer and we never heard a sound or saw anyone on our floor.

We were looking for something nearby the main tourist attractions in Madrid and this place was a great choice, right by the Palacio Real and the Opera. We asked for a quiet room and we were upgraded to a suite in the top floor, with huge terrace and a window looking to the palace. It was next to one elevator but surprisingly we didnt hear it. The room was spacious, clean, nicely designed and quiet.

The wifi didn't work well and the TV was not connecting with channels (probably because of lack of Internet). It was not an issue since we didn't need to do work.

Good size room and facilities in general. Good size bathroom. Good breakfast. Good location. Friendly staff. Thomas who attends the guests at the foyer when they come (and go) is a real value to the hotel with his exceptional politeness, attention to details and helpfulness. The presentation of the hotel overall is very good. It is very easy to get taxis and buses in front of the hotel. The Madrid Royal Palace and Cathedral were within walking distance.

Tea and coffee in the room would have been nice. Some attention to design of light switches would be good. All the lights except the bed area lights come on with one control switch only. The ceiling lights which are quite bright should have a separate switch. Small annoyance but this can be looked at by the hotel to make their guests' stay perfect.

Wonderful location and although on a busy road, felt quiet inside. Lovely lobby and staff were incredibly welcoming upon arrival. Large bed that was comfortable and a nice selection of teas provided. Room had an interesting aesthetic that made it feel unique. Good wardrobe space and room was spacious with areas to sit. View was upgraded to a Palace facing view and this was a lovely surprise.

Shower was a little temperamental and would drop temperature. Although overall clean, the bedding had a couple of stray hairs.

Very nice hotel with skilled staff. The decor of the hotel was not exactly my taste, but I think many would enjoy it. The bathroom was really big and there was a bathtub - it was nice. Great location with the royal palace across the road. Easy to get back and forth both on foot and by public transport.

I wasn't a fan of the beds and pillows, I think they were a bit uncomfortable. I think the cleaning ladies were a bit busy because there was no vacuuming behind the doors and under my bedside table. Our wi-fi was really bad and you couldn't play a video on e.g. YouTube. There was a wide variety of food at breakfast, but the quality was not so good and the bacon was inedible because it was cooked strangely.

Excellent location I barely used the metro, Madrid center is nearby. Super friendly and helpful staff. The room is spacious, comfortable and clean. I tried the breakfast for one day, the dinning room downstairs is very cozy and big, only more options could be provided in the future, but still worth the 14 EU for an open buffet. Definitely staying again
