Lovely old house. Privately owned and feels very loved-for. Owner checked me in and was serving breakfast the following day. He is a musician and speaks perfect English. The antithesis of an Ibis or indeed the ugly modern Marriott across the road. Nothing fancy, so perhaps not right for those who value globally homogeneous sheen. However if you wish to spend time in an ancient merchant’s house and don’t really care how modern the bathroom fittings are, then I recommend Erasmus without qualification.

I very much need the exercise of climbing stairs, so three flights was appreciated. Other travellers may wish to review access arrangements.

My boyfriend surprised me while I was here. Since no one mans the front desk I was unable to let them know he was staying for the night. His response to being asked in the morning why he was in the hotel wasn’t a response I would give and I apologize for that. However I paid for a room and I was unknowing to his arrival. I would have liked Peter to have mentioned something upon check out and not to have been down talked to when leaving. This is a great hotel . However I was judged upon appearance when I first walked in . Do not judge a book by its cover - because you do not know the pages within. Or in this case do it judge upon one’s appearance as you have no clue what they have in there wallet.

Well. I chose in the last moment the cheapest w parking lot. The advert said about old patrician house. When a patrician serves your breakfast you want to forget about self serving refractories at Mc_ for the roughly the same price. But if you buy sweetened water at the price of milk.... And breakfasts were with a soft classical music background. I don't think is the owner attention to detail but I heard a piece of Romanian rhapsody. Me being romanian. Mind blowing

The main lunnch room and living have Maximilian armors pianos and so many beautiful things for atmosphere doors and upper levels has art deco 20 cents decadent style

The hotel is a unique historical house conversion with authentic old antiques and decor. Great location 3 minutes from the main central area and Sint-Michiels Parking 🅿️ which we used for the car. (Remember to pre-register your car with the Ghent ULEZ vehicle emissions registry to enter the city.) We asked for, and had two twin rooms with single beds. These rooms were nice and located on the top floor with pitched ceilings and exposed beams. The breakfast room was indeed grand and had a very good spread of morning fare. Staff fantastic, accommodating and helpful. There is a small urban supermarket next door that closes about 8pm.

I don’t believe that there is a lift and the stairs to the fourth floor are wooden so we had to tread quietly returning late at night. Carrying the suitcase up was a good workout. This is a nice hotel in an older building. If I wanted characterless, modern, 21st Century accommodation then I would have stayed in a Marriott or Hilton.

It was the most beautiful hotel I ever stayed in, a couple of hundred year old home of a very wealthy family. The decor hadn't changed much and was tastefully decorated with antiques. Each room different from one another, some with fire places. Yet all had modern bathrooms and very comfortable beds. the breakfast was quite nice with eggs cooked personally for you. The man who ran it was super helpful and very knowledgeable about the area. I stayed three nights and enjoyed my stay thoroughly. It was a five minute walk to the city center with all it's goings on yet located on a quiet street. Also handy was a small grocery store right next door. I would return in a heart beat.

Nothing it was a wonderful!

It is like staying in a stately home - there is so much space, and beautiful antique furniture. Even a suit of armour in the dining room! The bed was big and comfortable, and the breakfast was great. Staff were friendly and helpful. It's just a short walk from the centre of town, and not far from a tram stop if you want to travel further.

Because the streets are cobbled, any traffic outside can't help making a noise. It's on a quiet street, but still you could hear deliveries at 6am.

The hotel is conveniently located right in the heart of Ghent. It is just steps away from the city's top attractions, restaurants, cafes, and other amenities. Staying in a charming 16th-century building adds a special touch to the experience. The breakfast is well-rounded, offering all the essentials, and is served in an impressive, atmospheric dining room.

The steep stairs can be a bit challenging for guests with reduced mobility, especially when carrying luggage.

First things first! I let the hotel know that I have dust allergies. They called me and let me know that they would do a extra cleanup just so my allergies couldnt be triggered. Thats already a good sign! The staff is super friendly and the location is perfect. Not in the super busy streets of Ghent but in 5 minutes walking you are right in the centre. If you love historic buildings, the Erasmus is the place for you! The building is the definition of keeping history alive, I just loved it!! To close it all of, the last day we needed to check out at 11 am but our train was leaving at 3 pm. We asked if we could leave our luggage to grab a early lunch amd do some final shopping. The manager (I think) showed us where to place our bags and we could head out. That was super nice. Makes you feel that you arent just a number that brings money in. Overall it was a wonderful stay and it made me fall in love even more with Ghent!

The only thing I didnt like was that the breakfast options were a bit limited and always the same during our stay. But thats a small improvement they can make.

An oldy Woody hotel with bags of character. The hosts were very helpful and friendly with loads of tips for getting around the city. Erasmus was ideally situated for ease of access to the city, 50 metres to be exact. A lovely hearty breakfast in the morning, with the chance of the most lovely scrambled eggs. Very cosy.

The only negative, and not a bad one is no lift if you have mobility problems. The stairs are a little difficult to negotiate as they are a little steeper than we are used to. But not impossible.

A great 400 year old building, we really liked it. Owner/Manager was exceptional. It's is not a modern premier inn, so don't expect a box room with no character. Sure there is no bar, and the bathroom is basic, and not everything is shiny and new. There is no lift......but the place is in an excellent position, and full of character. Would I stay here again....in a heatbeat.

The lack of lift and bar was a slight issue. And the public car park was slightly inconvenient.
