We were upgraded to an inner room - windows looked out onto a gravel rooftop. This was OK, since there was absolutely no street noise, making it very quiet at night. And the room was huge - a separate sitting area with sofa and chair near the TV and desk provided ample space. The king size bed was very comfortable. As we have found with other NH properties, the breakfast buffet was excellent with a variety of options. The location was also perfect - easy walking distance to points of interest and tram lines.

Although large and comfortable, the room, carpet and furniture showed signs of age. Some items can easily be rectified by simple maintenance. The towel bar next to the sink was loose and the mirror in the bathroom was secured by black electricians' tape. The stopper in the sink needs adjustment. Also the Wi-Fi was somewhat inconsistent - seems they could use additional repeaters in this section of the building. Finally in these times when most people use their phones for much more than making calls, there were no plugs near the bedroom night stands for charging devices. The nearest wall plug did not operate when the main light switch was turned off at night.

I arrived late in the evening, yet everything was perfectly fine with my check-in. When I entered my room, it was clean and tidy, and there were some really nice compliments from the hotel on a table - a small bottle of wine and a bag of crisps. My bed was comfortable and the bathroom looked really nice, with all necessary hygiene provisions already present (shower gel, shampoo, toothpaste, and even a toothbrush). There was also a capsule-based coffee maker in my room with capsules provided by the hotel, which proved to be very handy. The staff was really nice and friendly and I felt very welcome there. The maids kept the room clean and tidy consistently throughout my stay. Overall, the time I spent there was a very nice experience.

The location was very good for my purposes, meeting up with the rest of the group and accessing beautiful sites, galleries, churches etc. The room was spacious. The breakfast offered an array of morning delights..even for someone like me who cannot eat wheat etc (gluten).

It was unfortunate that the restaurant was closed in the evening for 2 weeks, covering the 10 days I spent there. Not a major problem as there are many excellent restaurants close to the hotel.

Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and food was well laid out in a spacious setting. The waffle machine was always very popular! Lots of fresh fruit and pastries, cereals, hot dishes and freshly made breads.

Unfortunately when we stayed in August the restaurant was closed for the period which we hadn't realised from the website when booking the hotel and the bar isn't open on Sundays either!

Breakfast was very good. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, which is important for me. I appreciate the hotel had an area for small kids with bowls, utensils and some kid-friendly breakfast foods, with colouring books and crayons. Very well thought. We went with our small dog, and I discovered the hotel is very dog friendly. Upon entering the room, a staff person knocked on the door and handed me a large and comfy dog bed with a doggy toy and two bowls. Very thoughtful! The hotel is situated in a perfect Gent city centre location. Can't beat it.

Our room was double booked so we were moved to a better unit - Suite Karol V. The room was spacious, with tall ceilings and huge windows. The view was wonderful - overlooking the building and the street. The room was quiet, clean and very comfortable. In the lobby, there is lemon and cucumber water that is available at all times. Location could not have been better, you're right in the center of everything. Parking was close by as well. We would definitely come here again, and we highly recommend Karol V Suite and NH hotel to everyone!

The room was large and with a young child we found the facilities really good. The room had a kettle, a fridge etc. The location of the hotel is excellent, right in the centre of Ghent and near lots of attractions.

We often had to wait at reception to be spoken to, which on a couple of occasions included someone coming out from the back office and prioritising an incoming phone call over us stood waiting to be served. We also had a Mosquito in our room which was annoying and we received lots of bites. The hotel has the appearance of being slightly in decline, the bathroom door handle was broken (which was fixed by the hotels building team ) but it could generally do with an upgrade.

The refurbished rooms were spacey, clean, with two large comfortable beds, a large LED tv, a small table, two seats, a minibar, a watercooker, some tea and coffee powder, almost 100% right except that the reading light was too much to the centre of the two beds so kept my wife from sleeping, more at the side away from the other would be more appropriate, and I miss an electric outlet at both (instead of just one) opposite sides of the bed since I need to charge my smartphone overnight while listening to podcasts before falling asleep, and have it within arm’s reach since its our alarm clock too.

Reading bed light should be as faraway from the other bed as possible, electric outlets on both sides of the bed to charge both our phones and have it within arm’s reach

Reception staff treated us lovely. Some seemed to be slightly inexperienced, yet their hospitality and customer treatment was excellent! We got a complimentary room upgrade for our stay, and enjoyed great attention to detail by the F&B staff (asked for a wine bottle opener, and instead they opened it for us and served cold in a silver metal bucket, together with 2 wine glasses). A clear example of going the extra mile with the customer.

Parking was, in my opinion, overpriced (EUR 27,50).
