The location and view are fantastic. You're right in the middle of the city center. You can't ask for a better view. Our room was very big and comfortable, warm and cozy. Staff is friendly.

Parking is a bit annoying. The area around the hotel is car-free so you must drop off your luggage first and then go park the car yourself to an underground lot nearby. They def should have valet service - it's a must for a 5-star hotel. Our room had 2 flights of stairs which I didn't mind too much but my husband wasn't a fan and after walking around all day it's a trek. Our curtain didn't work the 1st night so we slept in broad daylight with ferris wheel passengers looking right into room. Quite comical.

The location was perfect for exploring beautiful Ghent. The historic building had so much character which was also shown in the rooms themselves. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was very well soundproofed as looked onto a really busy square with Christmas markets and we couldn’t hear anything! Loved the curtains as well, fully blackout! And the bed was large and really comfortable, with a big tv. They offer a parking space if you ask which is really useful.

There’s nothing I didn’t like but the only slightly annoying thing was that the toilet was downstairs and the sink was upstairs! But they give you hand sanitiser for this issue. It would be good if they gave more information before you came about Ghent’s low emission zone and the need for a certificate.

The hotel has a superb charm, with its stunning old-world design and beautiful attention to detail throughout every space – from the hallways to the breakfast area. Each corner feels thoughtfully crafted, blending elegance with character. The staff were incredibly warm and relaxed, adding to the welcoming atmosphere. Overall, a wonderfully enjoyable stay with plenty of personality.

While the hotel has plenty of charm, the rooms aren’t well soundproofed. We could hear midnight traffic, buses, and even trams passing by. If you’re a light sleeper, earplugs are a must.

The location of the hotel is perfect. It's as downtown as it gets and there's a taxi stand next to the hotel. The rooms are very comfortable and the beds have good and comfy pillows! The staff is very friendly. We got a lot of information on Ghent drawn on a map. It also is a cozy place with a beautiful bar and another space to hang out that has an honesty bar. Around the hotel there are lots of restaurants and other food options.

This is not so much a critique, but more of an observation: the hotel wouldn't be great if you have trouble walking stairs/navigating steps. There are elevators, but still quite a few steps as well, and the bathroom in our room was upstairs from where the bed was.

Beautiful interesting boutique hotel in the middle of Ghent. High end but with no pretense. Staff was amazing from assisting us with luggage to helping us add a night to our planned stay. Every single staff member we encountered was friendly and engaging. The breakfast is perfect. Made to order hot food (eggs, bacon, veggies) in addition to latge buffet spread with croissants, yogurt, fruit, cakes etc… They allowed us to store our luggage after checkout which was wonderful! Definitely recommend.

Nothing-caveat there are stairs in the duplex rooms and some are challenging. We were in Room 27 in the tower and the winding stairs to the bedroom were intimidating. My Husband took a tumble in the night to get to the bathroom.

This hotel is truly special. Attention to detail is astonishing to the extant I rarely ever seen. This is proper 5 star hotel. Location wise , it can’t get any better in Ghent. The shower was in the second floor of my room, which was a nice touch.

The bed and pillows are not comfortable at all. This is a problem I see in most non branded “ boutique luxury small” hotels. Bigger chains manage the beds and pillows better usually do to their bargaining power with suppliers. If bed comfort is important to you, this is a major drawback. I say this with the hope the hotel addresses this problem, which I understand can be costly.

Perfectly located in the center of Ghent, the 1898 The Post was a great place to stay and see the city and its surroundings. Located near tram lines that can take you around the city and to the train station (Gent-Sint-Pieters) the hotel is within blocks of several of key sights, so you are able to walk and experience historic Ghent right outside your door. The setup of our room utilized the unique building, giving the maximum amount of space even in our smaller room (letter) which was decorated in a way that is photo shoot worthy and tied back to the building's history. Additionally, the staff is amazing and helped us extend our stay as we were able to secure a visit to the Huyghe Brewery (Delirium Tremens) which is only a short train ride away from Ghent.

My daughter stated that the only thing she did not like about our stay was it was not long enough.

Beautiful interior design and attention to detail. The colour scheme was dark and 19th century moody. I Loved the guest honesty bar . The rooms were small but clever and had all amenities with the mezzanine bathroom. The breakfast was served in the cocktail bar and although we had to wait for a table it was worth it , delicious . The staff were friendly and the location could not be more central. Ghent is a fantastic city if you like the arts, design and walkable canal streets. A nicer version of Amsterdam.

I thought the actual hotel would be a bit bigger in terms of places to sit, the view out of the windows was obscured by the original stone wall. I appreciate that the design had to have compromises but when you are in the middle of the city you want to see it from your room. We also found it difficult to find the front door, maybe could be signposted more easily.

Just wow: Gorgeous location, carefully restored building, beautifully designed rooms, friendly staff - everything deserved 5 stars! The room is spacious and offers lots of perks, the bed was comfortable, the double sink and spacious shower made even the banal routines fun and exciting, the Guerlain cosmetics are also a nice addition. The "Honesty Bar" is very beautiful and inviting, even if you decide to stay drink-free. from small gestures, like the welcome pralines, to the grandeur of the location - an experience worth having!

What is there not to like?

The hotel is beautifully designed, with historic feel, high ceilings, quality materials etc. location is amazing straight in the middle of Gent, by the canal/river, churches, shopping etc. everything is on your doorstep. Staff very polite and accommodating.

The room was duplex and beautiful, with very high ceiling, and tall amazing windows overlooking the main square, the downside was that the bathroom was upstairs so it was a lot of navigation to do to up and down to get ready. Also, lights switches were rather challenging to operate during late evenings, as either all lights were on or off….
