Really clean. Prompt replacement of non-working toaster, with a smile. Daily housecleaning was great. Simple, clean, unfussy room. Meet our needs perfectly. Suggestions for improvement: I suggest that they include one roll of paper towel in the kitchen area. Also they could mount the cutlery holder as a pull out drawer under the microwave. That way it is more accessible at a lower height and would free up storage for food stuff.

What I didn't like is something that Buccaneer cannot control. There is bulk fuel plant just a half block away and the semi-trailers unload throughout the night. If you have your window open, there are sounds around midnight and early am hours of semi trailers trucks driving and the hiss of stopped trucks. Earplugs work but it is unfortunate that the night isn't as quiet as it could be in that neighborhood. Perhaps the owners could petition the City have the bulk station not have fuel transfers during the sleeping hours of 10 PM to 7 AM..

I felt like I was on a boat. I loved the bedroom, with big, comfortable beds, a ceiling fan, and windows that let in cool air. The kitchenette was very clean and served our purpose, with adequate supplies. I got a kick out of some things, like the weed jar and the "Super small space, eh?" that was painted in the parking lot on a space that would fit only a Smart Car or a motorcycle. They've worked to make the property attractive with flowers, and they are very concerned with keeping things clean and fresh. (Hence the weed jar and the prohibition against cooking seafood in the rooms.)

I have no complaints. Parking could be a problem if you drive a large vehicle, but my RAV4 fit just fine. There are no rooms that are not accessed via stairs, but there were only about 8 of them and there was a good handrail.

Buccaneer Inn is located close to the ferry terminal and 30 minutes walk along the street and then along the Harbourside Trail to the harbour. Our room had a kitchen which we didn’t need and during the heat wave was cool without A.C but a couple of fans. The accommodation was quite large (a suite) with sofa, table and 2 chairs plus cutlery, plates, coffee maker (which we used) and real milk in the fridge (not coffeemate which I can’t stand). Other things such as the beds and bathroom with shower and bath tub met expectations.

You just had to be careful exiting the parking lot as it has restricted sight lines on your left.

For someone who generally stays in a big name hotel like a Hilton or Westin, this older, motel style building far exceeded my expectations. The room was large with a well stocked kitchen, TV room, and separate bedroom. Most importantly, the beds were extremely comfortable. Although there is not AC, there were multiple fans that kept the room comfortable on a hot summer day. We had a view of the water (top floor) with a nice marine breeze. It's in a nice location for small walks to restaurants and downtown or the ferry, plus the staff was friendly and helpful too! On our next trip to Nanaimo, we all agreed that we will be staying here again.

We loved the natural light in all the rooms! The lovely lady at the front desk was great. She gave us sound advice as far as restaurants and pubs in the area. She gave us a map and guided us to our locations. Our room felt like a little home away from home. The beds and pillows were the best I have ever had on holiday!!

There was not one thing that we did not like!!! The only thing we could have possibly made our stay better would have been more ice. Please note, my friend and I use ALOT of ice.

Practically located close to Ferry terminal but nevertheless quiet at night. spacious and well equipped rooms.

No air conditioning. We had two rooms. One was perfectly clean; the other one unfortunately not at all. Our kids had to sleep in dirty beds (pubic hairs and breadcrumbs in the sheets). This does not fit with the claim of the hotel: Spotless and sanitized. Edit: After our review the owner immediately returned to us with apologies and proposed a partial refund for the dirty room, expalining also that they had addressed the issue. I appreciated this very much. Hence, I changed the overall review to very positive.

The suite was great and well laid out for our group of 3 - a couple and a single person staying on the living room sofabed, which was surprisingly comfortable as those go. Such a nice touch to have crown moldings in the living room - made it look extra nice. Plenty of room with 2 sofas, nice fireplace and I was happy to have the rolltop desk to do some last minute work after dinner. Location was great and I would definitely stay again while in Nanaimo.

This is probably limited to certain times of year, but the sun rose and shone directly into the living room where the sofa bed is located. There are shades but they are privacy only - they let in all the light which at 5:00 a.m. was so strong it hurt my eyes. We do not require blackout shades for sleeping, but these shades seem particularly bad for preventing the sun from shining directly into the eyes of guests sleeping in the living room at a very early hour. It lasts about 20-30 minutes and then dissipates as the sun moves. Glad I am someone who can generally fall back to sleep without a lot of fuss.

So cute, SO CLEAN, the management were SO KIND, and it was so close to the Ferry Terminal. The rooms are definitely dated (though I have seen worse), but they are exceptionally clean. No air con, but plenty of pedestal fans to keep us cool!

The toilet, when flushed, is like a jet engine taking off. It was SHOCKINGLY loud! And ran/refilled for a long time! The hand soap in the bathroom is too fragrant/overbearing.

My partner and I had a really nice stay at the Buccaneer. We had come to Nanaimo for a boat survey at the nearby marina and it was within walking distance, as well as within walking distance to a few restaurants and pubs. The staff was exceptional. They went out of their way to help me with a few things and were also able to upgrade our room. The room was exceptionally clean and kept in very good order, much more so than other lower priced hotels I have visited. Solid A++ and I would 110% stay there again.

There was very little not to like - I think some rooms may be better than others, the parking lot is a bit small, and the paper mill and maritime odor can sometimes be strong, but hey that's Nanaimo!

Room was very clean especially the fridge and bathroom which is important to me. Room was nice and warm when I walked in. Front desk was pleasant and helpful. It had snowed and when leaving with my suitcase the owner ran up two flights of stairs , took my suitcase and put it in my vehicle which helped me hugely to navigate the snowy parking lot. Then the owner cleared my whole vehicle of snow while I sat and just warmed up my car. So greatly appreciated.
