For the first timer visiting Shanghai with limited time, Renaissance Shanghai Yuan Garden Hotel is “the perfect” choice. The main factors are “location”, “value”, and “amenities and services”. The hotel is right next to traditional shopping areas, Yu Garden, and few other touristy areas. It is also a walking distance to the Huang Pu River area. Although the timing was not right, December was quite cold and windy. But we really enjoyed the walk.

The property is very convenient to some popular touristy areas. Yu Garden is a must visit. The Shanghai old city street is also recommended. There are many street vendors and shopping areas that offer souvenirs with reasonable prices. In addition to the hotel restaurants, there are plenty of restaurants (big or small) around the hotel for you the choose from. The hotel breakfast was excellent! If you want to upgrade your stay, book a hotel room with the “river view” that would take your breath away!

The location of the hotel was near to amenities such as the Yu Garden shopping and food. The fact that the subway station is less that 5 - 6 minutes from the hotel is a plus. It is central and we stayed there for 6 nights to explore Shanghai and surrounds.

Perhaps the pillow in the room was a little soft. We requested for a harder pillow and was given the one filled with beans. The grocery shop is about 10- 12 minutes walk from the hotel if you would like to get some milk or snacks. Nothing much that I didn't like. It has all the amenities that you would expect for an above average hotel.

We enojyed our stay. The demolition of the site next door had finished but construction had not started as of 18 Dec 2023. So did not have any issues with Noise. The new restaurant on the top floor is worth checking out, and if it was summer the roof garden would be amazing at night time. The Metro is right outside the hotel so getting to places is very easy. The Yuan Shopping Mart and Yu garden is only one block away so very easy to walk to.

We could not turn down the heating on the the air-conditioning but we also did not ask for help. The chinese beer at the restaurant was very expensive even for a hotel. It was also not clear that the services on the 17th floor were not available to all guests.

Great location within 1 metro stop from Nanjing road walking street (or you can walk around 15 min)metro station is just around the corner. We stayed with two kids and the guys on the reception gave us earlier checking and later checkout, which was very convenient as our toddler son could comfortably nap in the room that time. Also free upgrade was very enjoyable, we’ve been given a bigger room with two double beds. We found dinner in the lounge a great value. Price was around 300 RMB with a lot of hot food and unlimited wine/beer. Overall great experience.

Nothing really

The location was excellent, and a few mins walk to Yu Garden subway and near to Yu Garden with lots of great foods. Hotel staff at 1st storey were friendly. Fast response when help was needed from the maintenance team The hotel room was big enough for 4 of us, and the room was well-cleaned daily. Our favourite was actually the Disney vendor machine at 1st storey.

Hmmm~all was great, except it would be better if there was a self-laundry room.

The location is great, the robot room service is amazing, breakfast is great and the table arrangement is really efficient. Staff are very friendly and the room is clean. The only issue is the swimming pool, the edges of the pool could do with a clean as its mouldy.

Some furniture in the room is old, for example the cabinet in the bathroom has the table corner broken. The swimming pool could do with a clean. The lobby decorations are out of date.

The location of the hotel is perfect; walking distance to many touristic places. Comfortable room, friendly and helpful staff. There are many restaurants and markets around it. The lobby faces the Yu Garden and it is very pretty. In general, it was a comfortable stay.

The construction around the hotel continues at night too. Although it is not too loud, it is still heard until late hours. The food from the Cafe isn't worth the money. We have ordered some dishes and a pizza. Despite being expensive the pizza was worse than frozen pizzas.

Very convenient location (walking distance from the Yuyuan Garden entrance and Yuyuan Old Street) and accesible metro stations nearby. If you feel like walking a little more, you can even get closer to the Bund area and the Shopping Streets. The reception staff was very friendly and helpful.

Just a recommendation: would be really helpful to have someone who speaks English at the hotel entrance, we tried to speak with the concierge to ask for help with some directions in Chinese and she couldn’t understand anything.

that the pool wasn’t open as late as advertised

The infrastructure are excellent and facilities around the hotel.

It’s not I didn’t like but I’ll suggest improvement about the front desk staff in the lobby, because some simple doubts that I asked to them they only said “I don’t know” and just it. As customer, I had to ask them to talk with the manager to solve something simple. But I have to congratulate the service of the guys on the 1 first floor (porters) they are very respectful and helpful all the time.
