Hotel Robledal

Great communication before our stay. The airport pickup and drop-off were great services and meant we didn't have to sort out taxis when we were very tired after 15 hours travel. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast offered a good choice, our only gripe would be that we had to leave before 7am so had paid for it but couldn't have it on departure day. The room was comfortable and had all the facilities we needed.

An additional bedside light would be useful. Be aware that the trade off of being near the airport is aircraft noise, it appears SJO doesn't have a time with no flights arriving at night. However, that's not the hotel's fault and we much preferred our location to the city centre and it worked well for us.

This is so close to the airport, but they have managed to create an oasis in the urban area where it is located. Breakfast was included and it was very good with fresh fruit and a choice of eggs with rice and beans or pancakes with an egg. They offer a free airport shuttle that we used both times we stayed here which was very convenient. We also had dinner both times we stayed which was delicious! We especially loved the property which has many trees and flowers drawing a variety of birds including a Squirrel Cuckoo, Great Kiskadees, Spot-breasted Oriole, Blue-gray tanagers, White-winged and Inca Doves. They also have nesting boxes for Pygmy Owls but we didn't get to see them. It was enjoyable to walk around and birdwatch. Emanuel is knowledgeable about birds and he gives birding tours which we didn't have time to do, but we wished we could have fit that in. We would definitely come back!

The only thing which they can't help since they are so close to the airport is the occasional loud airplane.

Beautiful property serene with birds and native plants. Property has some unique bird friendly features (nest boxes, feeding platform, a pond and lots of flowering trees. It has a cute little swimming pool for kids of all ages. Breakfast is included. Very nice breakfast. The rooms are super clean and new. The hotel is just 10 mins from the airport but in the better side of Alejuela and if you need to do souvenir shopping or gas station before rental return, it is considerably closer to all of that. The best part of the hotel is conservation. The property owner loves birds and works hard with nearby property owners, hotels and landscapers to improve the overall habitat of the surrounding neighborhood. It’s wonderful. He also offers birding tour for Central Valley.

I wish it has more marketing and support his efforts of conservation. The property is hard to find in social media

This is another really beautiful property with huge manicured gardens that make the stay experience far superior to that of standard airport hotels. The owner was at the desk to greet me and was super friendly. Staff were also friendly and very efficient. Room was large and very clean. Location is well within the Uber area so getting anywhere from here is easy, particularly to the airport.

Unfortunately the hotel is right under one of the flight paths into the airport so aircraft on approach to SJO make for quite a bit of noise. The upside is that flights appear to be restricted after 9-10 in the evening so no biggee there. However, it you are sensitive to noise and go to bed early it could be an issue. Breakfast (included) was typic of Costa Rica with fresh fruit, gallo pinto, scrambled eggs etc. was standard, good and filling, but they could offer more and better quality coffee.

I have stayed at this location in the past. The staff is always exceptional. They were very accommodating switching rooms this time so I could have a desk. It has an on-property open air restaurant/ bar with good food. There is hot "hot water" and a/c (if you travel Costa Rica in non-tourist areas you know why I included that). There is plenty of open space and they have made an effort to make the property bird and birder friendly. There are two resident Ferruginous Pygmy-Owls at the back of the property. They could use some more flowers (such as Porterweed) to attract more hummingbirds, but I bet that is coming. I appreciated the convenience of their airport shuttle and gated/ guarded security.

I wish breakfast was earlier than 7 am for those with morning flights. They did provide a bag breakfast, but i missed out on their great breakfast this trip. It can be a little noisy outside with city and traffic noise and depending upon the daily flight pattern for the airport (this time the planes passed over - previous times they did not). That said, I prefer their open-air property over those that are just buildings/ parking lots.

Hotel Robledal is close to the airport, they offer pickup and drop off, the grounds are lovely, the rooms clean, the food excellent. Everyone is so helpful, Joshua and Emmanuel take so much pride in the family business, it showed in every way. If you are a birder you’ll love walking around spotting the many bird species on site. Look for and ask about the “Owl Project” nesting boxes.

Being close to the airport, there is quite a bit of airplane noise all day and night.

It was very close to the airport, 10 min away or less. It was quiet. They had a free shuttle for pickup and drop off at the airport. They had a restaurant on site. There was a pool. We left early before breakfast started so they made us a to go bag with sandwich, apple, and juice.

The shower head could use replacing but pressure was good. The temperature control was very sensitive but we had hot showers. The restaurant was a bit expensive for dinner.

Great location for airport and for visiting the former capital of Alajuela (well worth it). Lovely small pool area and separate restaurant area with good food. Great to have an owner who cares about birds and who goes out of his way to attract birds to the sizeable garden. Regular haunt for birdwatchers on their way in or out of Costa Rica with free (morning) airport shuttle.

Have to expect some airport rumbles

Environmental sensibilities of this family-owned small hotel. Property draws birds and bird-watchers. Free shuttle to and from airport was prompt, responsive, and hotel located in an area that allowed driver to avoid highway traffic congestion, which can be significant. Price was modest for all that was included.

Heard a few loud planes, but this is unavoidable for close airport access.

Very lovely well kept garden oasis in the thick of airport options. Lots of orchid & bougainvillea & other flowers & birds & open space. Aesthetic large room. Could sleep with the window wide open in balcony room. Good food at in-house restaurant.

A/C worthless. Did not cool but it was 65 & breezy at night. Tried to tell woman at desk but she did not speak English & my Spanish was not adequate & she did not seem to really want to hear any complaint. Shower temp erratic (as they all seem to be in costa rica!)
