The breakfast. The only hotel I've stayed at in NZ where pre paying for breakfast got me a choice of a la carte breakfast, a juice, and a freshly made flat white. Exceptional decision. Room was large and had two comfy queen beds and a view over the Greymouth rooftops. Staff were friendly. Huge TV and I don't stay in a hotel to watch TV but it was a good TV.

Being picky only having a bedside table for half of each bed was a bit mad. The exterior of the hotel is very badly painted, and half of the old hotel is yet to be demolished or improved, so it's at odds with the neat and tidy inside. The room gets very warm, and it's awkward given that each balcony is shared in case you open the door and the next door's kids show up in your room.

Copthorne Hotel Greymouth, is in a lovely location and included with our room was a little shared balcony from which we were able to enjoy sea views, this was a very nice added bonus. The room is very clean, a nice size and pleasant and appealing to the eye. We also found the staff very warm and pleasant to talk with, which makes a huge difference to one's perception of a safe environment to stay in. We were more than happy with the service and the room we were fortunate to enjoy, and would recommend the room to all.

I was more than happy with the balcony, but my husband is a very shy man and would have preferred a private wall in between, as he wouldn't venture outside if the neighbour was in.

Everything really. Very courteous, helpful, accommodating staff at the front desk, the bar, dining room etc, can’t beat a bit of local knowledge and advice, (times for the amazing sunrise etc). Meals/breakfast were delicious, & well presented. Great service. Clean & friendly. Our room on 6th floor was spacious and comfortable, with everything you could possibly need, supplied. Lovely shower. Gorgeous views of River, town east facing. Smooth lifts, no waiting. Easy walking to shops, rail station, river walkway - all within minutes. Would stay here again, definitely.

Absolutely nothing to dislike.

From the moment we arrived, the staff did everything they could to assist us and make our stay a pleasant one. Our room was excellent and spacious, with lovely views back up into the mountain. While the exterior of the hotel is quite confronting - it is literally the largest and tallest building in Greymouth, the warmth of the people and facilities inside well make up for that. Parking is ample and easy to access. Would definitely recommend this as an accommodation destination.

Unfortunately the in-house restaurant was not serving dinner while we were staying, but they were able to give us some good advice on other options.

The river view, smart TV, comfortable bed. Lovely, welcoming trainee receptionist., easy check in. Fantastic water pressure in shower with plenty of hot water. Quiet. We did not hear any other guests and the hotel was pretty full. Lots of fluffy towels. Nice on site restaurant if you are too tired to go out but beware.the portions are huge. We definitely over ordered! A short walk to nearby restaurants and cafés.

No heat pump but wall heater did work well. No heated towel rail. We had to dry towels overnight on chairs placed in front of the wall heater. Not always enough parking available.

room was well appointed and clean, beds comfy . Staff were helpful, and we were able to leave our bags behind front desk before and after checkout.

Didn't realise it was an older building from photos on website, actually had trouble finding it ( walking from train with suitcases) as the signage was poor. We had just managed to find the place when another couple from the train asked us for assistance as they also couldn't locate the hotel.

The room had a great view which we both enjoyed. Our tour to Pancake Rocks collected us at the railway station and afterwards delivered us to the hotel. Our tour to Hokitika Gorge collected us from the hotel in the morning and afterwards delivered us to the railway station.

The doors to the hallway on the 5th floor are very heavy to open. If you stay on a Sunday night, the restaurant is closed. We walked to and from Countdown grocery chain and picked up a few things that tided us over. The beds are very soft. It's a matter of personal preference. I would have preferred a firmer bed.

Don't judge a book by its cover - The Copthorn is a lovely place to stay. Great staff, truly wonderful welcoming customer service from everyone we met. The room was large and beds very comfortable. They are doing renovations at the moment, so no dinner service (we went to Monteiths brewery) but the breakfast was very generous and delicious. Will be booking again if I am ever lucky enough to return to Greymouth.

A very good size room (superior queen on the sixth floor) although ensuite bathroom was very small (only one person could fit at a time). Room was very quiet. Great location, easy walking distance to everything. Lovely view across river.

The dinner menu on our first night was limited to 2 choices (steak or fish), but the meat was delicious.

This is the best hotel in Greymouth. Good location, free parking and there is everything you need for family travels. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and they responded to our emergency situation very swiftly. Thanks for making our stay at Copthorne a pleasant one.

Sound proofing across the rooms can be better. While there are no interconnecting rooms, there are rooms with shared balcony where guests from another room could come to our side. We felt a sense of insecurity when we kept our windows or balcony access open.
